Regarding the burning of the front of the train-

Tarley Snr tells Jaime at the start of the ep that the granaries are being emptied into wagons and they've drafted in labour from the surrounding farms to load up but it is going to take some time.

J tells Bronn to go help and B says 'I'm not much for shovelling wheat' but he's told to go and persuade the farmers to give up their harvest. Off he goes with the Tarleys and J canters off towards the head of the train which is mostly marching soldiers.

I think the supplies in those front carts would have been supplies and equipment for those regiments that were on front guard.

I've no idea how much persuading of farmers Bronn did as he's caught up with Jaime in time for the battle that seems to be later the same day.

Google says there are 760 miles between Highgarden and King's Landing so at 4mph weary soldier speed it will take 190 hours to get to KL, nearly 8 days.

But ust before it all kicks off Tarley Snr wants to cross the Blackwater Rush which is very close to KL when the Roseroad crosses it.

This map shows that the Roseroad only crosses Blackwater Rush practically on the doorstep of KL.

8 missing days? Hmm

Map

I may have watched again three times

Thanks for that, Olennas, I love that kind of stuff. What a boost to the economy of NI (and Croatia and Spain and, I suppose, the US and next year probably Iceland) GoT must be.

Spookle · 08/08/2017 21:31

I don't think Drogon will die unless there is poison, although PP said dragons are immune to all poisons. Sounds likely to me.

Infection to mirror Drogo's death is an interesting thought.

I think the looks from Sansa during Arya and Brienne's training was 'Hmm, we can actually kick some ass now. Nice side-eye at LF as he is for the chop one way or another. Either that or the smarmy bastard will be the last one standing.

I think the Jon/Theon meet was interesting. Great acting from Alfie Allen with the submissive dog body language, I hope he gets to redeem himself by saving someone of note.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 08/08/2017 21:53

What do you all think was said in the cave after the 'bend the knee' discussion? Dany/Jon marriage/alliance?

BlueeSpottyTiger · 08/08/2017 22:05

Oleenas that's so interesting to watch...sooo much work goes into it!

Who did little finger actually say "chaos is a ladder" to?
I couldn't figure out what he was saying and had to rewind like 7 times then gave up.

Oh hey @mustang27 👋

BlueeSpottyTiger · 08/08/2017 22:07

Japab more incest!? Jon is her nephew!?!?! 🙈 i hope that Does not happen lol

Spookle · 08/08/2017 22:07

Thank you Olenna, that's a brilliant video.

Do the box sets come with extra discs of behind the scenes? I love the LOTR extra discs as much as the films so that would be right up my street.

Oh and I keep meaning to mention poor Tyrion's face while he's watching his kith and kin get slaughtered. He looks as white as a sheet!

It's going to be tough waiting for next week!

QuentinSummers · 08/08/2017 22:11

I didn't think I would be the only person with the "who taught you to do that?" "Noone" as their favourite line. Loved Brienne and Arya fighting.
I'm also hoping Bronn, Tyrion and Jaime meet up and join Dany.
What is Cersei going to do now? I'm assuming Dany is going to follow Tyrions siege plan now KL has no food. Maybe Cersei is going to lose it and go berk with wildfire

AryaUnderfoot · 08/08/2017 22:19

BlueSpottyTiger he says it to Varys. Can't remember the whole conversation.

AryaUnderfoot · 08/08/2017 22:23

Watch 2:19 for 'chaos is a ladder'

Spookle · 08/08/2017 22:27

Spooky Quentin as I just rewatched that scene.

I thought 'She's right, no one taught her that, she taught herself because she had to to survive'.

FlyingJellyfishintheAttic · 08/08/2017 22:32

Bluee it's said to Varys when LF revelas he knew Ros was a spy. Whilst he is saying it it's when Sansa is upset she has found out she will be marrying Tyrion and Ros has been killed by Joffrey with the crossbow.

Spookle · 08/08/2017 22:34

Thank you Arya that's a great flashback.

Trills · 08/08/2017 22:49

Great video, thank you.

I thought 'She's right, no one taught her that, she taught herself because she had to to survive'.

I don't think that Arya was taught by "no one" as in "not taught by anyone". I think she was taught by "someone who is no one".

kimchee · 08/08/2017 23:11

Why would LF give Bran that dagger? I don't understand his motivation...

Just a thought. Because he wants to set the Starks against the Lannisters again. Giving Bran a permanent reminder of what the Starks believe was a Lannister attempt to kill Bran is giving him a permanent reminder of the Lannister attempt on his life. Littlefinger wants the throne and currently the Lannisters have it.

Of course it isn't going to work because Bran knows everything and Littlefinger hasn't realised this yet. Bran's "Chaos is a ladder" remark to Littlefinger came after the gift of the dagger.

Perhaps Bran (and definitely the scriptwriters) have a reason for giving a Valyrian Steel Dagger to Arya.

The trailer to this episode was a real tease though - when I saw Littlefinger drawing the dagger, I assumed he was going to use it.

maggiso · 08/08/2017 23:15

I took Arya's 'No one' to mean her training with the waif when they were both no one, but would be construed by Brienne and Sansa as she taught herself.
In the books, little finger tells Catlyn that the knife from the attempt on Brans life was originally his, but lost to Tyrion in a wager ( at a tornai) - leading Catlyn to think Tyrion the instigator of the assassination attempt. I can't remember what happened in the TVS series.presumably Bran knows the real story.

Mustang27 · 09/08/2017 01:28

Why did I read that refilona!!!

Hey @BlueeSpottyTiger fun times here Grin

DispatchReady · 09/08/2017 06:54

kimchee yes that makes total sense re the dagger - it backfired on LF as Bran totally has his number!

What do we think happened to the Tarly men? Didn't see them die or escape (or did I miss that?). Drogon was very selective in only killing extras Grin

AryaUnderfoot · 09/08/2017 07:07

The dagger is how Littlefinger is able to fight every battle everywhere and in every dimension all the time.

It's called The Subtle Knife :-P

Trills · 09/08/2017 07:38

Game of Thrones seems to subscribe to the time travel theory that whatever happens, happens. In other words, Bran is always going to travel back in time, causing Wylis to become Hodor.

Anything that happens, happens.
Anything that, in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen.
Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.
It doesn't necessarily do it in that order though.
(approximately Douglas Adams)

Does PopBitch assume that its readers don't know the phrase "stable time loop"? Maybe, but I feel that most people who watch Game of Thrones would benefit from the phrase and a link to TV Tropes.

Trills · 09/08/2017 07:46

PopSugar, not PopBitch. That's a different site.

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 09/08/2017 08:41

Randall Tarly was seen burned but staggering to the water. We didn't see what happened to lovely Dickon. I want him to survive but actually to have his charred body revealed in the next episode (identified by a single spur or something) and Sam suddenly become the heir to the fury of a scarred and pissed off Randall would have dramatic potential.

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 09/08/2017 08:45

Martin has written a fair amount of hard sf and read an enormous quantity of the stuff - I think his time travel logic will be solidly thought through. Either it's all closed loops or a single broken loop/paradox will be carefully set up and key to the final denouement.

AryaUnderfoot · 09/08/2017 09:21

The Bran time travel bit I can cope with, but I have problems with the Bran as NK theory for a very simple reason. D&D have said on several occasions that the show is going to have the same 'basic' ending as the books. In the books there is no NK as a character. The NK talked about was a totally separate but very human character. There is a legendary Great Other as the adversary to R'hllor.

In the psst, show-only characters have proved to be unimportant in their own right and only serve to move forward the storylines of the main characters or secondary characters (Ros/Talisa). I suspect the NK will be like that.

I could be completely wrong.
