Is this going to be our new Revenge/Desparate Housewives fix? www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/feb/17/big-little-lies-nicole-kidman-and-reese-witherspoon-shine-in-masterful-twist-on-desperate-housewives

Anyone in the UK watch tonight? I'm finding it slow and boring. Not sure I'll carry on watching. Couldn't care less about the characters.

IndigoApple · 28/03/2017 07:25

Me too. I watched the 1st 2 episodes last Monday and liked it but last night was a bit boring! Do you know how many episodes there are? (hoping 4 but suspect more!).

farfarawayfromhome · 28/03/2017 11:00

IndigoApple there's 7. i'm watching 6 tonight.....

TheShapeofYou · 28/03/2017 11:37

farfarawayfromhome is it worth sticking with it then? Does it get better?

differentnameforthis · 28/03/2017 12:00

I am in Oz and we have it at the same time as the US, so we have one ep left.

I haven't read the book, and have to say that whether intentional or not, NK's character to me, is very believable. I would hope it is because she is playing her that way, but I haven't seen her in much else, so wouldn't know. Not sure if I explained that well. I mean, given her past career, she should be a little less "meek" but I guess that could be because of her relationship (trying REALLY hard not to "spoil")

I don't think it was Ziggy who hurts Emmabella. I think I know who it could be though..

I do feel that they have lots of ends to tie up in the last ep. And I am not sure how they are going to achieve it...I hope they don't leave things open...

HollyJollyDillydolly · 28/03/2017 12:04

I'm not sure if the show is as good as the book, I always tend to prefer the book versions of films etc though.

I've read NK and RW are also going to do another Liane Moriarty novel onscreen
truly madly guilty

Deux · 28/03/2017 12:15

I'm enjoying this very much. I did find episode 3 a bit slow and would have welcomed another segment. It's left me with lots of questions which I'll keep to myself in case others haven't watched yet.

The music is fabulous. There's a playlist on Spotify.

QuinoaKeen · 28/03/2017 12:22

Ooh thanks for the Spotify info @Deux. Fantastic!

farfarawayfromhome · 28/03/2017 12:37

TheShapeofYou absolutely stick with it, i think it's fantastic and a great grower.

TheShapeofYou · 28/03/2017 13:46

Ok, will do - thanks Smile

Forgot to say I too think the soundtrack is brilliant. Will ask dh to get the playlist up on Spotify, cheers for the tip Deux!

SnowWhite33 · 28/03/2017 14:08

Ok i dont get how can they:
Live in Monteray
Keep driving up and down Bixby bridge several times every single episode (the bridge is big sur, much more down south towards LA)
Work in San Fran (at least some of them as shown in one ep, its so far away!)
Someone like Celeste's husband 'travels internationally' all the time so he would need to first drive for hours to San Fan?

I did a road trip from San Francisco to LA recently and actually stayed in Monteray, and really it is not loggical. Im sure anyone who knows the area would agree? Or am i overthinking it and need to just let it go and enjoy the nice views. I mean i love the show and its very believable, other than the logistical facts

Oblomov17 · 28/03/2017 14:20

UK here. Just watched episode 3.

Agree music is great.

Thought episode 3 was as pp said slow and a bit boring.

Madeline said that Renata klein had the mayor in her pocket. Really? How. I like Renata. She seems normal. Has doubts. Great sex with her husband in the work loos!! Ha ha. Feels desired. They seem the most normal.

Yes she didn't invite ziggy. Would you? If your daughter had just been apparently strangled by him. But then Madeline took it one stage further by stopping her daughter, i.e. The best friend, and others from going to the party and taking them to ice instead - I mean that's really low. Renata rings her to ask her to let it go, can Madeline let her daughter go to the party. Madeline says no. What a bitch!!

Why does NK wear such awful drab hippi'ish clothes? The flowery skirt with the belt, before they dance. Yuk.

So, come on, let's be honest, the rapist, looked liked perry, didn't he? Rough sex like perry. Posh shoes like perry.

And who did strangle? If it wasn't ziggy. I bet you it was one of perry's and Celeste' sons. Both blonde haired cherub angels. Perfect boys?

Did one of them also break the leg off the hippo, and then loose the hippo at the ice Day? Knowing ziggy would get the blame. Did one of them strangle the girl? Does one of them have anger issues and nasty rough sex undertones to their personality, like their father perry?

I haven't read the book. So I could be totally wrong here......

I'm just speculating . I haven't a clue. Is speculating allowed?

Deux · 28/03/2017 14:32

I do hope speculating is allowed Smile.

I agree Oblomov, Perry came to my mind too and I wondered if Jane had actually seen Perry yet as he wasn't at the school open day and is always travelling.

Also, why did Madeline pull the car over and cry. Was it after she had left Jane's? Was she triggered in some way by Jane's disclosure? Or was it because her daughter was leaving to go to her dad's.

I've had the soundtrack on today and I've only skipped one track. So many good tracks in one place. I think they've really pulled the hat out of the bag for the music.

Hope the next 4 episodes deliver now.

Oblomov17 · 28/03/2017 15:16

Yes, exactly - Jane hasn't seen Perry yet, has she? Because he hasn't been at any of the drop off's/ pick up's at the same time as her.

I too think Madeline stopped to cry because it all got too much: mainly her daughter, but everything else aswell and janes reveal.

TheShapeofYou · 28/03/2017 19:26

Ooh, good shout on Ziggy's Dad potentially being Perry, hadn't thought of that.

YY to Celeste's dress last night being hideous. I get that she has to cover up all her bruises, but there was no need for that awful outfit Grin

DispatchReady · 28/03/2017 21:07

Just caught up - still enjoying it although NK's accent totally slipped when she was talking to the therapist!

Like the theory that it is one of the twins who strangled...you never know what they might have witnessed and what issues they might have because of it.

Haven't read the book but wondering why Jane moved there in the first place...think there is some secret she is hiding and has moved from. Her telling Ziggy in the last episode that he was normal - something not quite right there.

So just realised David Clarke (Revenge) is in it, and was that the guy from the Musketeers? And Jane and Bonnie were in the Divergent films together, and didn't Laura Dern play Jane's mum in the film where she had cancer? And who is the guy playing Laura Dern's hubby - from thirtysomething or one of those?! Sorry - can't remember names these are just my random musings!

25bottles · 28/03/2017 21:27

I think something was going on with madeleines husband and daughter. The way he looks at her. I was waiting for her to admit it when she was at the school meeting.
I also think that what's his face is Ziggys dad it seemed obvious and I hope he isn't as it's not challenging me enough.

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/03/2017 22:27

But in the flashback to the hotel scene he looked dark and heavier set, although it was a brief glimpse. I did wonder about the possibility of it being Perry until we saw him.

I agree Ed (Madeline's husband - who incidentally looks absolutely ridiculous with that beard!) seemed to be shot looking longingly/lingeringly at Abbie, his stepdaughter. Hopefully there's noing going on there. Where the heck have I seen Nathan before?

Clawdy · 28/03/2017 23:02

Ed and step-daughter? No way, he adores Madeline.

TheShapeofYou · 29/03/2017 08:08

DispatchReady here you go Wink

Looks like Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley were in a Fault in our Stars together.

Thanks Shape they were! And Gordon was in Desperate Housewives and Once and Again - anyone remember that, I liked that too!

Nathan is David Clarke from Revenge.

Oblomov17 · 29/03/2017 09:55

Agree with Bottles and Margot re Ed (and yes that beard!!) and daughter. he keeps taking glances at her. She too seems jealous of him and her mum - watched them hugging.

I don't think Ed or daughter has done anything about it, but I think their feelings/desire scares them.

QuinoaKeen · 29/03/2017 10:44

As much as I love Reese and the music, I can say wholeheartedly that this is another case of the book being much better.

Enjoying reading everyone's theories.

I'm in Oz so looking forward to the finale next week. There are still a lot of loose ends to tie up though.

Dozer · 29/03/2017 20:37

I really liked james tupper in Men in Trees: in this he's a stereotypical MN self-absorbed STBXH, not understanding why it might be difficult for his ex to see him be happy families with his "free spirited" younger woman. Was glad when madelines husband threatened him: that was a good scene. As was the bar scene with the women insulting each other.

Most men would've dumped madeline by now for being so very very uptight and bitter.

Anne Heche might've been good for celeste! Or rebecca hall.

I don't like seeing Eric the vampire, who I quite fancy, being an abusive human. Well cast: he does good menacing, power and brooding, but Eric, though a dangerous powerful vampire, wasn't an abuser!

Dozer · 29/03/2017 20:38

His right hand woman Vampire Pam would fit right in with the California, as a lesbian mum.
