So excited! I couldn't wait for tomorrow to start a thread Grin

I think that bus girl's phone number will be a code for something. Because John has been deep undercover since he was six years old. Or something.

HeyRoly · 01/01/2017 22:18

I think the fling will return. She was wearing a dodgy wig. BBC costume isn't that bad, so I think that was a nod to a woman in disguise.

Also, I think we're supposed to see another side of John - a more unpleasant side. Interviews I've read recently have said that Sherlock is less of a dick, and John is more of a dick.

QueenieGoldstein · 01/01/2017 22:21

The fling will be Moriarty related you just wait

PullThePebble · 01/01/2017 22:21

I'm a stick in the mud I guess, once I have my beloved characters fixed in my mind I don't really like their traits messed about with just because of 'oooo dramatic reasons'.

I like my Sherlick dick to be a dick and my trusty John to be, well, trusty.

bijouxxx · 01/01/2017 22:24

DH reckons the whole thing about 'saving John' is that the fling will return and something bad will happen to John, and Mary knew about it all along and knew John would go back to her if she died? I'm not sure.

HeyRoly · 01/01/2017 22:25

I understand pebble. John is great just as he is. But I'm intrigued to see where this will go.

Mary had to die though - the plot needs to get back to the Sherlock/John dynamic. The show wouldn't work if Mary kept coming along to scope out locations for cases... listening in via Skype etc.

DeepAndCrispAndEvenTheWind · 01/01/2017 22:27

Also, she dies in the books!

Tanith · 01/01/2017 22:28

She died in the original Holmes books for exactly the same reason: ACD wanted to get Sherlock and John back together.

I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did.

Tanith · 01/01/2017 22:28

Cross post Grin

Tanith · 01/01/2017 22:31

There were more direct book references this time, too: John's "better man" quote; the "Norbury" request from Sherlock...

ChoccyJules · 01/01/2017 22:32

Did you stay to the end of the credits? There was a bit more from Mary.
DH thought her diving in front of the gun was stupid, both by her and in terms of her having time to do it (I reminded him she is a ninja). I was just expecting the shark tank to be smashed a la Mission Impossible!
Girl on bus was obvs in a wig. Did Mary set them up to test him? To see if he'd ever move on?

Figgygal · 01/01/2017 22:37

Hmm well next week looks good anyway

It was ok tonight but predictable she was going to die And i got the feeling Mary knew about wig woman

WallisFrizz · 01/01/2017 22:39

I thought woman on the bus was going to be a set up by either Sherlock or Mary. We'll definitely see more of her.

Why did Mary go all mean and moody and tell Sherlock to go to hell in her video? It happened after the end credits.

HeyRoly · 01/01/2017 22:40

I've been browsing Twitter, and someone has suggested that Mary intended to drive a wedge between Sherlock and John after her death

Also, are we supposed to assume that John had a proper fling with Fling Woman, or that they just had a text flirtation? It's left deliberately vague isn't it? No sense of timelines etc. Bit freaky that she was waiting for him as he stepped off the bus though - almost like she had stalking skills over and above the average OW Wink

Brightredpencil · 01/01/2017 22:40

Hmm I wasnt impressed with this at all although so glad Mary is gone - she let the whole thing down and interfered with the dynamic I felt. Plus totally unconvincing. I see Martin and Amanda have now split up so that must be a bit odd filming those parenting scenes.
The bit at the end where there was a sort of blueness behind Sherlock was annoying and overly artsy. I would love to see the original moriaty - he was absolute brilliant.

PullThePebble · 01/01/2017 22:41

Ooo of missed the end credits, Mary went mean?

NotDavidTennant · 01/01/2017 22:42

I think I prefer it when Sherlock has a specific case to solve. This episode was a bit all over the place.

WallisFrizz · 01/01/2017 22:46

Well, the end credits cut to the end of that video from Mary. She was cold and stony faced and said "go to hell Sherlock".

I think that phrase is linked to Moriaty though?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 01/01/2017 22:54

I thought bus stop woman looked like she was in disguise - that hair was surely a wig? Some kind of plant I reckon.

YorkiesGlasses · 01/01/2017 22:56

Why did Mary go all mean and moody and tell Sherlock to go to hell in her video? It happened after the end credits.

"After the end credits" does seem to be the get-out-of-jail-free phrase for Moffat and Gatiss. They said that the Moriarty bit after the end credits mean nothing in terms of the show when people pointed out that it was different to what we saw in the show, and they may do the same here.

megletthesecond · 01/01/2017 22:59

I assumed Wig Woman was an assassin or agent. Doubt it's the last we see of her anyway.

CaveMum · 01/01/2017 23:00

Finally finished watching on delay! I enjoyed it. Not as good as the early episodes but I'm guessing we need to see all 3 new episodes as a whole before passing judgement.

Not surprised Mary died, given the precedence in the books, and also agree that the "OW" was definitely wearing a wig!

OP posts:
AndShesGone · 01/01/2017 23:00

She means go to hell to look for Watson as that's where he will be. Not cold/stony but heartfelt/serious

ChuckSnowballs · 01/01/2017 23:01

I can't work out whether it was complete drivel, or complete genius.

Sigh.

HorseyHorseyTwat · 01/01/2017 23:07

I thought it was dire. Sub-bad-Bond-film plot; melodramatic and far too pleased with itself. Very, very disappointed.
