So excited! I couldn't wait for tomorrow to start a thread Grin

OP posts:

Elledouble: It was a bit angsty for me - it's a bit like what's happened to Doctor Who recently, feels like they forgot to put the fun in.

This is how I felt about it. It was manically convoluted, jumped all over the place and adstract in how it was brought to an end.

Much preferred it when it was just Sherlock as the odd and erratic character rather then the storyline itself.

MayhemandMadness01 · 02/01/2017 08:51

The theory in our house is that the bus girl is Mary in disguise, she's not actually dead, to either protect her and Rosie from the other killers or so that she can go off-grid to help with whatever Jim M. has set up.

Lucydogz · 02/01/2017 08:57

I thought it was awful, having watched it to see what all the fuss was about. All angst and relationships. Truly a 21st century Sherlock.

ChuckSnowballs · 02/01/2017 09:01

Give me Elementary any day. Plus - proper serieses not these half arsed 3 and 1/4 episodes all over the shop.

Also, Mary was put into the mix by M.

DeepAndCrispAndEvenTheWind · 02/01/2017 09:03

Are you all going to stop watching?

HorseyHorseyTwat · 02/01/2017 10:17

Not immediately, DeepandCrisp, I'm hoping it will improve. But yes if not.

Lorelei76 · 02/01/2017 10:20

Chuck agree totally.
I think Sherlock is good though.
The baby is just pointless annoying sentiment of some sort I reckon.
We may be in too many twists territory.

Didn't realise Toby Jones was on the poster, good spot!

DodoRevival · 02/01/2017 10:56

Put it like this DeepAndCrispAndEvenTheWind, I'm not counting down the days to the next episode. I suspect DH will watch it - he tends to have some feeling of obligation once he's started a series (though there's only a few episodes anyway) so chances are I'll end up seeing them.

GerardNoWay · 02/01/2017 11:07

Always find there's an episode out of the three that's crappier than the others - I hope that's it!

I found the story didn't click as well as previous episodes. I'm missing the more cerebral, detached Sherlock. All this about making a 'vow' to protect Mary is so not-Sherlock, if you know what I mean. I know that John et al are supposed to bring out the human side of him but feel perhaps they've gone a tad too far?

Knew Mary was going to pop it. Not only does it happen in the books but felt like they couldn't run that for too long without losing the dynamic, it was very much one or the other in this case.

Crossing my fingers that the other episodes up their game.

I did like the bit with the non moving dog though Grin

Bettersleepoutdoors · 02/01/2017 11:15

I was disappointed.
Too much violence for me. I am not a fan of torture stories.
And not liking John's "fling" thing at all. I had a pathetic hope that Mary's job for Sherlock (whom I still love) was to find the floozy and despatch her and sneaky trecherous Dr W.

GerardNoWay · 02/01/2017 11:38

Feel like there's something more to the fling.

I knew there would be something happening there, but the messages just seemed too familiar straight off the bat. Perhaps they just did that to get stuck into the meat and veg of the fact that John was straying. But just didn't seem to tally at all for me!

LineyReborn · 02/01/2017 13:16

What was her mobile phone number? Probably co-ordinates. Is she the fourth AGRA? Who cares.

Clawdy · 02/01/2017 14:24

Yes, I didn't like the torture scenes, a bit gratuitous. And Holmes was bit too empathetic this time..."She's my friend..." "I will protect you...."

FatGreen · 02/01/2017 14:41

I wasn't wildly impressed, tbh. I'm simply not sure I buy either 'Last Action Hero Sherlock' or 'Cute Babies and Vows' Sherlock, and the way Mary's characterisation swung between suburban and snuggly in crumpled anoraks/semi-psychopathic Black Ops ninja gal was a bit schizoid. (And anyone paranoid enough to have survived as long as she did would have checked the memory stick for trackers, as well as dashing around the world in wigs.)

I love Mary, and would like to think she's only pretend-dead and comes back as Moriarty/the Abominable Bride/Mycroft's evil boss or something.

Why would busts of Thatcher be being produced in small, traceable artisan batches in Tbilisi, of all places???

Flisspaps · 02/01/2017 14:54

I really enjoyed it.

My only bad thought was that the pen stick would have been discovered in the factory as soon as someone lifted the bust to pack it - the base wasn't sealed in any way!

HeyRoly · 02/01/2017 15:22

Totally agree with you Flisspaps. The memory stick wasn't sealed inside the bust at all!

Lokilocks · 02/01/2017 15:37

I liked it though not as keen on the character shift with both Sherlock and John. For it to happen so suddenly it didn't feel believable at all and I just can't understand this new delicate Sherlock. I'm hoping that this is 'The Blind Banker' of series 4, the one that's just a bit off.

Mary was brilliant throughout and I'm not really a Mary fan but I think I'll miss her now. The wig woman is definitely up to something and the next episode looks good.

I watched His Last Vow before it and noticed that although John is a pressure point for Sherlock, Sherlock isn't included in John's short list. Maybe things had started to change between them already? Roll on next Sunday!

viques · 02/01/2017 15:46

Hoping irritating Mary is a goner, but sadly I think we are back in fake death territory ........ Again. Yawn.

Much more interested in the burgeoning romance between very fanciable inspector and forensic person. I would be happy to see a spin off with them and lovely Mrs Thingy. Finding John and Sherlock have had their day, and I am fed up to the back teeth with the texting stuff.

Beketaten · 02/01/2017 16:21

Also glad Mary is gone, found her very irritating and unbelievable. Hope she stays dead! And the baby brings nothing to the party so hope it doesn't feature much in the rest of the series.

Was hoping Moriarty was back too!

OurBlanche · 02/01/2017 16:39

Last Action Sherlock is in the original stories. There is quite a lot of detail about his proficiency, armed and unarmed.

He boxes, Sign of the Four references how far he could have gone had he not been so lazy!

Basil Rathbone's Sherlock showed them quite a lot, e.g. his wall climbing escapades... The Speckled Band, I think! That and unbending an iron bar!

He says it was his skill in 'a Japanese martial art' that allows him to throw Moriarty off the falls.

And then all the skills he shows when he is in disguise, or taking on a bad guy with gun, sword stick etc.

Surely they won't repeat the false death? Mary and Moriarty must surely stay dead... as they did in the books?

Lokilocks · 02/01/2017 17:14

YY to Action Sherlock (love Basil Rathbone) I hope they don't bring either back, like you say OurBlanche surely they'll have to stay true to the books?

Just thought I'd add that I know there's a softer side to Sherlock eg in The Naval Treaty when he talks about the rose and religion etc. There's another point when Watson details just how delicate and caring Holmes can be when necessary (can't remember which story but he was consoling a client) however I think last night's ep. just sprung that side on us all at once so that it didn't blend well with the character they'd left in S3. Maybe next week will be different?

jay55 · 02/01/2017 17:24

Sherlock of old would have deduced someones ice-lolly choice.

I wasn't engaged with the episode, maybe it has just been too long.

HorseyHorseyTwat · 02/01/2017 18:19

I have a three part theory about Sherrinford. Firstly, I think the character will be a sister, instead of another brother as per the books - they refer only to the "other one", so no gender specified, and it'd be a nice little joke to tie in with "Sherlock is a girl's name - and so is Sherrinford".

Secondly, I think wiggy bus woman will turn out to be Sherrinford in disguise, ordered by Mycroft to try and break up the Watsons; and thirdly, when that didn't work, Mycroft set up the shooting of Sherlock, knowing Mary would save him, because having John, Mary and Rosie in his life was making Sherlock too human and less useful.

And then Mycroft will turn out to be this season's Big Bad.

Bettersleepoutdoors · 02/01/2017 19:19

Yes Lockilocks I like "action Sherlock" and I too loved Basil Rathbone. Utter legend, the definitive Holmes.

Bettersleepoutdoors · 02/01/2017 19:19

Boooh Horsey very clever. I never have any idea about these things.
