Because we can't wait until next year for season 3. Highbrow discussion of Jamie's knees, hair and anything else Outlander

Having tried to keep it at bay for the last few months, I think I'm going to have to allow my Outlander obsession to take over in order to avoid the sodding election . . .

JuneFromBethesda · 21/04/2017 09:28

I think that's a wise course of action Tempus

Lessstressedhemum · 21/04/2017 11:01

Nothing like a bit of Jamie/Sam to provide distraction. I think free rein is in order, Tempus, I have started watching again and will start rereading when I've finished the current load of Jamie-free rubbish. I can't be doing with all the bitching, backstabbing and lies involved in our politics, it completely burns my biscuits.

TempusFuckit · 04/05/2017 13:44

So with at least four months (sob) before season 3 to go, I reckon it's a perfect time to be making some Cherry Bounce. Anyone else fancy giving it a go and swapping tasting notes come September?

(for non-book readers, I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say this is a drink that is featured in the later novels - basically, cherry-infused whiskey which sounds lush to me)

Lessstressedhemum · 04/05/2017 17:35

Sadly, I can't drink because of all my meds but I have just made a Claire style hot pepper and clove salve for my joint pain and some chamomile, hyssop and sage tea for dds stomachs ache! Oh, I am a witch!

JuneFromBethesda · 08/05/2017 22:42

But Poldark starts next month, I think? I'm holding out for that, to keep me going until Outlander begins again.

I am so sad that I keep an eye on the Telly Addicts board just to see if any of you have bumped this thread, as it's the only place I can go to be with other obsessives fans.

It makes me smile that the thread never drops beyond page 2, despite the fact that it's devoted to a programme that hasn't been, and won't be, on tv for months (unless you count the fact that it's still available on Amazon Prime, god bless Amazon I watched an episode again just the other night )

seedsofchange · 09/05/2017 00:26

But, its about Jaime and Clare, so is bound to keep at the top of telly Addicts ? ;)

Newtssuitcase · 09/05/2017 00:39

At the risk of being stoned (or burned at the stake) did anyone find the later books a bit hard going? I'm on a Breath of Snow and Ashes and I'm struggling to get through it now. I'm not finding it particularly gripping. In fact I'm getting through a few pages each night and then falling asleep rather than staying up til the wee hours reading.

Its a shame that its one of those book series that became popular later on once the storyline had already moved on. So much more could have been done about the early years but it was very fast paced and has now slowed right down.

Still reading (and watching - to see jamie's bum) though Wink

scaryteacher · 09/05/2017 12:54

I enjoy reading the 'spin offs' like the Lord John books and I have one on my Kindle which is Jamie and Ian in France when they were fighting there.

I have to re read Breath, Echo and MOBY before the next one comes out. That should keep me nicely occupied after GCSE examining has finished!

Lessstressedhemum · 11/05/2017 10:29

I like the later books, although I don't know very much about American history and Brianna continues to annoy me. I like the way that they show an older, long established couple who still love one another and have an active sex life. Usually, books are full of lovely young things in the first flush of love and desire, Jamie and Claire have a mature love that time has only deepened. Plus, he has aged along with me and it's OK for me still to fancy him because he's a bit older than me nowBlush
Sam's but is a thing of wonder, I cannot wait for its return.

Lessstressedhemum · 11/05/2017 10:30

Obviously that should have said bum, stupid autocorrect things that is a rude word!

snozzlemaid · 25/05/2017 14:17

Hi all. Not been on here for some time. Glad to see your interest hasn't faded like mine hasn't.
I've now read all of DG's books and think I must be due a rewatch soon.
Having to learn to be patient waiting for season 3 and more books. But it's agony.

Sunnymeg · 13/06/2017 11:49

More 4 have just announced that they will show Outlander Series 1 ,so finally it gets a home on Free view television! Don't know the start date though.

TempusFuckit · 13/06/2017 13:17

I just saw that Sunnymeg! I wonder whether this means anyone I know irl will also start watching it?

Sunnymeg · 13/06/2017 14:31

It will be fun if it suddenly picks up a following and becomes the new Poldark! I have lent the books to quite a few people with mixed reactions, so it'll be interesting to see what people make of it.

TempusFuckit · 13/06/2017 15:39

I wonder what changes they'll have to make - particularly to the final two episodes - to make it suitable for telly. They'll presumably have to make cuts to every episode to make it run on time too.

TempusFuckit · 13/06/2017 16:03

Ooh, and also - with an eye on the history of the later books, this is a really good series to watch as it teaches you a lot about the American Revolution. Season 4 is on Prime from Monday.

I wonder what the chances of them casting the same actors in some of the historical roles, like Benedict Arnold and George Washington? Plus the French general with the Roquefort cheese?

snozzlemaid · 19/06/2017 21:22

Just seen that it's starting on more4 at 9pm on June 29th. I think there's a piece in the radio times this week, so will be interesting to see how much interest it gets.

Sunnymeg · 20/06/2017 19:23

TV Times have given it 3 stars which is fairly tepid. To be fair, I don't think it gets going until the second episode, and I dislike Clare's narrative in the first episode.

JuneFromBethesda · 20/06/2017 19:34

I gave up halfway through the first episode - I have such a short attention span these days Blush I didn't even make it to the bit where she goes back in time.

Fortunately I gave it another go when suffering from Poldark withdrawal symptoms, and by the time I was a few episodes in I was hooked.

I'm happy just to see an Outlander trailer on More4 Grin I'm so sad Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 29/06/2017 20:55

Is anyone watching tonight? I have been bannedAngry will just have to watch sneakily on my tablet again.

slalomsuki · 29/06/2017 21:10

Just come across it now. I forgot all this about how it started.

snozzlemaid · 11/07/2017 20:18

Season 3 starts in UK on Amazon Prime on Sept 11th. Smile

nigelsbigface · 12/07/2017 08:34

Whoop! I was wondering when it would start again!

cushioncovers · 12/07/2017 15:05

Can't wait. Grin
