Because we can't wait until next year for season 3. Highbrow discussion of Jamie's knees, hair and anything else Outlander

I really don't think the age matters at all... the books are all over the place and as someone has already said, it's about time travel so we are hardly going to not pick about age. AND I like younglooking Jamie thanks.

I'm going to stay away until I've watched it tomorrow night.....can't wait!

LonelyOversharer · 09/10/2017 09:20

It's bloody brilliant!! For the first 15 mins I was "get on with it!" But we got there in the end.

Right, all ageing debates done, how utterly beautiful did Claire look right at the end? Jamie did look older, but Claire was simply glowing. How very cleverly done. They've played the contrast so well. Stuffy stiff Boston Claire vs beautiful free happy Claire.

And I called it weeks ago that the episode would end there and Murtagh being duncan it was obvious, but brilliant. Even the dodgy skull and "am I still a sex bomb" bits were done so much better than the book. I think this series is only going to get better. So, what the hell shall we all do for the next two weeks...

susurration · 09/10/2017 10:30

faints

ToniMumsnet · 09/10/2017 10:31

That was the perfect place to end it. Still 2 weeks feels like an age.
The skeleton bit was interesting. We all know who that is.....

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/10/2017 10:33

Yes! She looked so beautiful at the end! CB is stunning.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/10/2017 10:53

Also, I think that scene is slightly different to the book because they have a conversation before he faints. I much prefer the tv scene, I think it was a lot more powerful.

Of course, the dedicated book fans are moaning because they’ve missed the bit about Jamie’s nose out and the fact that he didn’t have a green ribbon in his hair. There’s just no pleasing some folk.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/10/2017 10:58

Oh, and one more thing, I LOVE Roger. By the end of the fourth book, he’s by far my favourite character and Rik Rankin plays him perfectly. Great bit of casting there.

shittyshitybangbang · 09/10/2017 11:23

If the skeleton is who I think it is then how come it was found in a cave in the Caribbean.?

ToniMumsnet · 09/10/2017 11:39

Creative licence maybe? Or it's not who I think it is.

I am glad they skipped all the dress buying and discussion at the stones with Brianna.
It worked so well with Claire getting out of the taxi and stepping off the coach in Edinburgh.

I hope in this version she bought a lot more penicillin though.

LonelyOversharer · 09/10/2017 12:05

Um, we have all read voyager? We've already had a massive hint when Jamie went awol from Ardsmuir to look for the white lady witch

And we're off to the Carribean SA to look for Ian. Spoiler: he's in the cave.

Those were big bottles of penicillin. In the book she has all her kit in a tiny wee tin. I hope she's got the photos too. I simply loved the batman sequence, so much better than the dodgy shopping bit. And I adore that cloak she is wearing.

gamerwidow · 09/10/2017 12:13

Really well done, I’m warming a lot more to Brianna now too.
Print shop scene was perfect I expected them to cut as she opened the door so to end with J and C seeing each other again was an added bonus.

Namethecat · 09/10/2017 12:30

Loved it !

froggers1 · 09/10/2017 13:13

Just watched! OMG! Loved it but not I can wait two weeks. That's just mean...

ElfrideSwancourt · 09/10/2017 13:43

Just watched episode 5 loved the ending:) How come a 2 week wait for episode 6????Shock

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/10/2017 13:54

How come a 2 week wait for episode 6

Because they’re utter, bloody bastard sadists, that’s why AngryGrin

Lessstressedhemum · 09/10/2017 13:56

Some sort of sports thing in the US, apparently. I can hardly breathe. Imagine sport being more important then the next episodeAngry

turkeyboots · 09/10/2017 14:09

So glad I found this. Hate to have to wait two weeks, but better it's not a surprise. Loved the ending. Was convinced they'd stop as she opened the shop door.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 09/10/2017 14:31

AND we get Young Ian soon (at least I hope so, he's one of my favourite characters).

Lessstressedhemum · 09/10/2017 14:31

The way Claire lit up when she heard his voice was lovely. All the hope and excitement showed in her face. Ds4 nearly died laughing when Jamie fainted, wee ratbag.

SenecaFalls · 09/10/2017 14:54

It's baseball. The National League championship series. That's important, too. âš¾ Smile

Dunlurking · 09/10/2017 14:54

Please can I join you on here? Totally loving this series, unlike the last. Claire's face as she saw Jamie, and then her smile at him - the most beautiful thing in the series so far - even beats Jamie's face when he said goodbye to Will. So how many times have you replayed the last 5 minutes of Ep 5? I count ten for me, so far....

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/10/2017 14:55

I don't know who edited Diana G's books but the scrptwriters have done a better job with the core material

quirkychick · 09/10/2017 14:55

I'm glad they didn't just end as she opened the door! I think the next episode is extended even if it's 2 weeks wait Angry.

I've just started watching Black Sails, so will have to fill the gap with that.

ElfrideSwancourt · 09/10/2017 14:59

No sports can be more important my Jamie fix!!
Is Black Sails worth a watch?

SenecaFalls · 09/10/2017 15:43

It was a lovely episode, and I hate to nitpick, but they got the Harvard bits wrong in places. First of all, the students in Brianna's class looked like they were in the early 1950s, not the late 60s. They were too formally dressed; all the men were wearing jackets and ties. This was the heyday of the campus protest movement (Vietnam, civil rights) and Harvard was an important locus of it. Also, Brianna would have been a Radcliffe student, not Harvard. Radcliffe was the coordinate women's college within Harvard University, and "Cliffies" were very proud of the distinction. The professor would not have referred to her as "being at Harvard."

But other than that, it was excellent. And I agree that the script writers have done an outstanding job with the original source material.
