Because we can't wait until next year for season 3. Highbrow discussion of Jamie's knees, hair and anything else Outlander

I'm so distraught I failed to bold correctly [ howls ]

SeveredPixieBits · 04/10/2017 09:52

An extra week to wait! What???!! That's ridiculous. Why would they do that? I know they want to keep us all in a stew of anticipation but that seems a bit out of order. I don't know of any other episodic tv show that has done that. Confused Angry Angry Angry

Lessstressedhemum · 04/10/2017 09:56

I think that there is some kind of big sporting event in the states that week, so Starz is showing that instead. At least, that's what HH is saying.

AKAmyself · 04/10/2017 11:02

Look lassies, the way I see it is this: Claire and Jamie had to wait 20 years for that moment. We can wait 2 weeks :)

If anything it's going to get us into the spirit of things

AKAmyself · 04/10/2017 11:08

Kept thinking about the last episode (and comparing it to the wedding epi from season 1 I rewatched straight afterwards).

Jamie is so heartbroken. He has lost his freedom, his wife, his home, his title, his men, his children (how tragic was that exchange when he said he lost 2 children?!). He has however regained his health and while his heart and soul are frozen his body and mind are as sharp and sound as they've ever been. He's still a good man essentially but he's cynical and if not exactly selfish at least self centered (remember his speech to LJG about having no one to care for!).

Therefore the way he is with Geneva - not exactly thrilled at having to essentially prostitute himself but retaining full agency over the situation and in a physical sense enjoying the encounter (so different from his reaction to Mary last week!) - it makes so much sense.

And then willie comes along and suddenly he is no longer for himself only but he has a reason to live. And then of course his heart gets broken all ove again.

AKAmyself · 04/10/2017 11:10

But oh how I miss kilted Jamie from season 1, all knees youth and bluster and easy smiles and blind courage!

Waytoogo · 04/10/2017 12:07

AKA really great post Smile

I can't believe there is a 2 week wait for the reunion, could you be mistaken? Surely they couldn't be so cruel.

quirkychick · 04/10/2017 13:29

Oh, is there room for one more?

I'm a little late to the Outlander party, but started watching on Ch4 this summer, couldn't wait for each episode, started reading the books, bought season 1 & 2 dvds and have just caught up on amazon prime Blush.

It seems to have taken over my life, I've just finished book 8 and think I might reread Voyager alongside Season 3.

AKAmyself · 04/10/2017 13:33

Welcome quirky! I binge watched season 1, then read all the books over 3 months, and now started rereading voyager alongside season 3. I am considering the audiobooks....

quirkychick · 04/10/2017 13:54

Yy, I just finished Book 8 this morning, probably over 2-3 months, I was previously reading Poldark. Don't tempt me on the audio books AKA.

LonelyOversharer · 04/10/2017 14:18

The audio books are a bit odd. Easy to listen to, it's always great to be read to; but the lady has a shocking scottish voice, and makes all the men sneery. I gave up on drums of autumn as her voice for Roger and LJG was just wrong. I'd rather re watch the episodes (I mostly listen to them while working).

quirkychick · 04/10/2017 16:50

The trailer for episode 5 is on YouTube, it looks as if they'll finish with Claire arriving at the printshop Shock.

Love LJG, especially having just read Written In My Own Heart's Blood, where he features quite a lot. I also noticed a smith called "Heughan" and Ellen Mackenzie having the middle name "Caitriona", which made me smile ☺

Oh, fecking hell!! Angry I am not going to be able to wait an extra week (even if I don’t have a choice). I might implode before then.

quirkychick · 04/10/2017 17:03

I might have to reread the reunion in Voyager to keep me going...

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/10/2017 18:40

Going back to the last episode, I was bit annoyed that Claire is giving up looking for Jamie (I can’t remember if she does that in the books? I seem to think not).

Yes it must be frustrating, but surely finding out he survived Culloden means there’s all to play for.

LonelyOversharer · 04/10/2017 18:57

She does go back to Boston to wrap things up, and do the weird skull thing. But the way they've done it is clever, it's showing her fragile and scared, without all the drony monologue. Score one more for the screenwriters.

quirkychick · 04/10/2017 19:04

Claire certainly comes across as quite brittle. Will they do the skull thing???

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/10/2017 19:16

I cannot for the life of me, remember the skull thing. I skim read sooo much of Voyager. The only thing I really remember is Jamie at Ardsmuir (sp), the Geneva thing, the reunion and Laoghaire. Oh, and Jamie making Young Ian have sex with a prostitute (that’s a bit vague though).

I half want to reread it as I’m enjoying this series, but i don’t want to re-read it because it’s bonkers.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/10/2017 19:17

Oh and ‘the Chinese’ Mr Willoughby. How could I forget that? Even though I’ve tried my best to.

AKAmyself · 04/10/2017 20:30

Courtney, are you me? I skimmed past so much of voyager. Shame because the early part (mostly Aardsmuir) are some of my favourite parts of the series. I had no patience for all the plot silliness that followed and I started getting interested again only when they got to Fraser Ridge.

AKAmyself · 04/10/2017 20:30

Right. I'm about to start watching episode 4 again - husband still away!

SeveredPixieBits · 04/10/2017 21:37

I can't see how they can not do the skull/ cave thing as it leads to them getting Ian back but I'm hoping the scriptwriters will have worked their magic on it and it will be unrecognisable Grin

breadwidow · 04/10/2017 22:45

Not read the booked but I don't mind spoilers as I'm an impatient person, so what do you all mean by the 'skull thing'?

breadwidow · 04/10/2017 22:45

Books even stupid phone

DryWhiteagainW · 04/10/2017 22:53

If think what we need to do is have a voters find our fav episode to date and all watch it on the barren Monday and then comment.......

That or have a mass "Mark me" "Jesus H Rosavelt Christ" drinking whisky game

I also binge read all of the books last summer 2016 loved it but skimmed silliness.........
