Bloody predictive text.........

quirkychick · 05/10/2017 06:50

I was wondering would they do the skull thing, as it just seems a bit farfetched Grin but they will need to do the cave thing to find Ian. But yes, hopefully the writers will have worked their magic on it and streamlined the plot a lot bit.

breadwidow it's quite a major spoiler!

AKAmyself · 05/10/2017 07:21

breadwidow suffice to say we haven't seen the last of Geillis yet Wink

pixieg1rl · 05/10/2017 08:54

I don’t want Claire to get to the print shop so quickly. I was hoping for one more episode of back story, and lots more Roger.

Lessstressedhemum · 05/10/2017 10:42

The skull thing is daft, but i suppose it ties in with Claire's growing powers. I wonder if they will do the blue light thing that's in later books? they didn't do it with Maitre Raymond. They miss out a lot of the spooky stuff, I don't know if I am glad about that or not.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2017 10:50

From the teasers they’ve realeased, I think next episode is going to be focusing on more of boring Boston and Claire and Bree’s realationship.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2017 10:51

Bloody hell. released and relationship. That’ll teach me to type in a hurry Blush

quirkychick · 05/10/2017 11:25

Courtney I think so, but ending with Claire entering the printshop. Quite a cliffhanger...

AKAmyself · 05/10/2017 11:33

I don't think I can cope with more than 2 minutes of Sophie Skelton at the time - she is so terrible and wooden and saps the life of anyone who has to try and act opposite. I read aomeowere the actress who played Geneva had auditioned for he role of Brianna and I think she would have been spectacularly better (not to mention the red wig would have looked better on her!)

Lessstressedhemum · 05/10/2017 11:54

I feel sorry for Sophie Skelton, Brianna is such an awful character, she didn't stand a chance, really. And she just doesn't match up physically. Half of Bree's story is based on the fact that she is so unusually tll. In my head, she has always kind of looked like the woman who plays Brienne of Tarth on GoT, pity she wasn't available.

A lot of the book fans and HH folk really, really dislike her and are a bit cruel. It's a shame. Sadly, though, everyone else is so good that she looks even worse. I've never seen her in anything else, so don't actually know, but she does not appear to be half the actor that the other main cast members are.
I don't want to watch more of Claire moaning and her and Bree bickering in Boston. It sucks the joy out of things. Perhaps they could replace all of that with scenes of Jamie secretly wearing a kilt or washing in a stream or something. Damn diskilting act.

breadwidow · 05/10/2017 12:14

Thanks for the hints all. The magic in addition to the time travel guff (master Raymond et all) was the worst bit of it for me.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2017 12:24

I’m giving Sophie Skelton a chance. I hated Claire in the first series, partly the character and partly how CB played her. She seemed to be concentrating more on keeping her cut glass accent in place than giving Claire any depth or feeling (understandable as she’s Irish?). By S2, she’d settled in.

I don’t think I’ve seen enough of Bree on screen yet to judge but as I said upthread, I’m warming to her.

snozzlemaid · 05/10/2017 12:25

Funny how we’re all accepting and happy about time travel but all the other woo magic stuff we’re all nah don’t like it.
Somehow time travel is believable to us though.
I can’t bear anymore miserable Claire either. Jamie is sad too but somehow he’s still watchable (don’t know why that would be Grin).

snozzlemaid · 05/10/2017 12:28

I agree with what you say about CB in series 1 but I put that down to the character. She’s reserved as she’s trying to settle in a completely different world. She’s keeping a part of herself hidden.

AKAmyself · 05/10/2017 12:47

I'm ok with bree not fitting the physical canon of book Brianna (yyy to Brienne of Tarth! That's exactly how I imagine her!), I just feel she's not really putting any heart at all into bringing her character to life.

I think all the great performances in this show are due to the actors really owning their characters and bringing them to life well beyond the letter of the script. Someone get her an acting coach quick!

SeveredPixieBits · 05/10/2017 13:41

Brienne of Tarth?! Shock Gosh, that's not how I pictured Bree at all. In my mind she has always had that imposing, queenly stature that Rebecca Hall has as Sylvia in Parade's End. Again, nothing like cute, mousy, little SS!
"Sweet" is not a word I would associate with book Bree at all, but SS oozes sweetness so it will be interesting to see how she fares in the later series when she needs that fierceness/ steeliness. (Trying not to spoiler too much)

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2017 14:05

Brienne of Tarth?!Gosh, that's not how I pictured Bree at all

Me neither. I’m not certain without checking, but isn’t Jamie (and therefore Bree) deescribed in the book as having slanted cat eyes and high cheekbones? Or something along those lines.

I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head who fits that’s description tbh. I always pictured Roger as taller than he is, with black hair and no beard (but I’m happy with SS and RR).

SeveredPixieBits · 05/10/2017 14:29

Roger should be much taller and bulkier but who can complain about Rik Rankin?

AKAmyself · 05/10/2017 15:13

What about the woman who played the British doctor on ER? Alex Kingston I think?

SenecaFalls · 05/10/2017 15:21

Hannah James (I mistakenly referred to her upthread as Heather) would have been an interesting choice as Bree. She looks a bit like Caitriona/Claire and with make-up and red hair could have been made to resemble Jamie as well.

Speaking of actors who give fine performances, my favorite supporting actor is Bill Paterson as Ned Gowan. I especially loved him in the wedding episode, serving in a sort of impromptu wedding planner capacity. Smile

quirkychick · 05/10/2017 16:12

Lol at Brienne/Brianna! I thought she was supposed to be tall, but particularly tall in comparison to 18th century women.

Bill Paterson is an excellent actor.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2017 16:27

What about the woman who played the British doctor on ER? Alex Kingston I think?

For Brianna? Confused

SeveredPixieBits · 05/10/2017 16:47

She would have been perfect 25 years ago!

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/10/2017 16:47

I think she would have been a good Claire.

AKAmyself · 05/10/2017 17:01

Yes what I meant is that a young Alex Kingston would have been perfect for Brianna but unfortunately time travel doesn't exist
