Jen I am cutting my apple tree down for its autumn hacking back so CJ is stopping off here on his way to Scotland..... he'll be with you later.

Rhubarb01 · 04/09/2016 13:10

Afternoon everyone. Hope your Sunday's are turning out well and the weather's not too grim. It's much better here today after being wet and disgusting all day yesterday.

Ice hope you hear some positive news in a while about your Mum. It must be very difficult for all of you but I'm glad that you had such a nice time on Thursday and have some lovely memories.

After sidling off in a post-SCD malaise I went looking for some more entertainment of the TV kind and resorted to looking through Netflix. I started out with 'The Honourable Woman' but I'm ashamed to confess that after half an hour I stopped it because despite the fact it was supposed to be very clever and have some wonderful acting in it I was just really bored by it. I then decided to give series 1 of 'Happy Valley' a go. I am late to the party as I never watched series 1 or 2 when it was on originally. Wow, I have to admit I have binge watched all 6 episodes and it was great particularly Sarah Lancashire. I will have to find series 2 somewhere to see what happened next.

Then I started realising that there were some drama connections between Happy Valley and Our Girl somewhat akin to Chris Evans' 'Top Tenuous' list because Sarah Lancashire's big break was on Coronation Street - same as Michelle Keegan - and she played the part of Raquel who was Curly Watts wife (still with me everyone?). Well, Curly Watts second wife, Emma a Police Officer, was played by Angela Lonsdale (Georgie's Mum). But just to cap it all as the music played in the final scene of episode 6 I kept thinking to myself "that sounds so familiar" and lo and behold the composer is Ben Foster who also did the score for OG. Funniest moment however, was when JN's character emerges from the charity shop where he has bought some clothes to disguise himself clutching a battered paperback of 'War and Peace'.

OK that's me done - I've got a date with some Viennese Whirls this afternoon - how exciting! And there's still Poldark to enjoy as well!

Have a good day everyone.

Ilove's apple harvest. Totally kn.....d. I need to be about a foot taller really even with the ladders but got there in the end. Think it's baking time now.....

Curly's second wife, of course! Recognised the face Rhu but couldn't place her!

cjwoofwoof · 04/09/2016 14:04

Ooh good linkage there Rhu spot on. HV is an excellent series and it's well worth rooting out S2 if you can. JN is pretty evil and not at all attractive though, esp in S2 when he's particularly heartless.

Thanks for the Poldark link mads I've watched it 20 a couple of times already - those lips and boots get me every time Grin Only 7 hours to go til lift-off of his frilly billowy shirt hopefully . Of course I'm v.interested in the dramatic dramatisation of the drama; Aidan's beautiful obliques are merely a bonus for someone like me who doesn't ever objectify any handsome actors Halo

icemistOBE · 04/09/2016 14:32

We met her first on Thurs, she posed for lots of pictures with us. Really lovely lady.

She's playing Georgie's mum, her husband was in Shameless, they are so funny in the 1st episode!

Evening all. My rock and roll lifestyle continued today with allotment BBQ. Had a great day at Families day yesterday, had my first go on a Segway. Didn't stay for the evening bit though, too much rain for my liking. Tried to watch SCD but got too annoyed with T and C.
ice, really don't have the words but just know my thoughts are with you x

Off to pack my bag for tomorrow and good luck with all your little bleeders and the return to school

Nickel45 · 04/09/2016 18:07

Sound like everyone's having fun, I've spent the afternoon at a kids party at an aqua park. Kids exhausted. Coffee was good. So all in all, a great time was had by all!

Going to try and catch poldark tonight. If I can stay awake! Maybe not just the kids that were exhausted ... And i was just watching.

ice thinking of you and your mum Flowers, it's particularly hard when you are so far away too, I hope the break in treatment helps too xxx

moojangles · 04/09/2016 18:16

ilove what are you going to do with all of those lovely apples?

MaddieMoo82 · 04/09/2016 18:38

A lot of crumble I reckon mooj Grin

Onlygirljen · 04/09/2016 18:43

ilove I'm still waiting, surely he's not still fondling your juicy apples?? Shock

Richtea19 · 04/09/2016 18:44

Rhu loved the Chris Evans tenuous links!

HV was brilliant abs JN played such a good character, I read today that he is still being tipped as the new James Bond. Although they also mentioned Tom Hughes who is gorg! Although perhaps too young.

ilove hope your baking goes well. Apple crumble and pies?

Wine is poured (Naughty in a school night) but needed ready for Poldark. Grin

moojangles · 04/09/2016 18:47

off to google Tom Hughes.
How's the head jen?

Onlygirljen · 04/09/2016 18:59

It's seen better days mooj, couch is calling my name soon. Debating a small glass of wine with poldark, so recovery must be heading in the right direction!

Tom Hughes is gorgeous - killer cheekbones.

pixieg1rl · 04/09/2016 19:01

Viennese whirls, I love those rhu. I've got a lot of fudge from Cornwall to be eaten tonight as I enjoy Poldark, but firstly there's an hour long archers episode about the start of the trial. I don't think she'll get acquitted myself, Sean O'Connor is too soapy for such neat storylines.

Nickel45 · 04/09/2016 19:04

I dont think ilove'd give him up that easily jenWink. Just started on the rum and raisin ice cream I made ... think I must have misread the amount of rum to put in, definitely not one for the kids, eek!

Nickel45 · 04/09/2016 19:05

Did you make Viennese whirls, rhu, will be mightily impressed, they looked really difficult.

MaddieMoo82 · 04/09/2016 19:09

Fudge, Viennese whirls and icecream?! Bloody hell what you all trying to do to me... Been shopping but nothing unhealthy in the fridge Sad must pop out tomorrow and restock properly!!
Ooh CJs plums would be better jen Grin

Nickel45 · 04/09/2016 19:37

Celebrating the kids going back to school mads (apologies to any teachers out there!) 😀

Nickel45 · 04/09/2016 19:39

Just re read your connections rhu, that's brilliant!

Rhubarb01 · 04/09/2016 19:54

Evening! Yes I did make the Viennese whirls Nickel. Sorry I'm no good with pics and would need to ask DD who would think I was crazy, but I'd say it's a tale of two halves - literally! They actually are quite easy to make and don't take long as there aren't many ingredients. I got the recipe from the Radio Times website. In spite of the fact I have to alter the ingredients slightly for dietary requirements. the biscuit part turned out pretty well - the mixture was about the consistency of slightly stiff cake mixture when piped and held the swirly shape well. Problems began when I did the buttercream and jam filling and realised too late that on GBBO they must have flattened the bottoms of theirs to keep them level. Most of mine developed a kind of glacier effect with the contents slowly sliding southwards due to the fact that they were sitting at an angle so that a spoon was required - alternatively you could just try very stiff buttercream that won't shift when it's in contact with jam. However, it didn't affect the taste. Smile

Tom Hughes is playing Prince Albert and makes his first appearance on 'Victoria' tonight but it will have to wait for catch up. I'm not sure about JN as James Bond although I'd prefer him to Tom Hiddleston - just in case my opinion should matter to Barbara Broccoli.

icemistOBE · 04/09/2016 19:58

Stressful day, large massive glass of wine poured. Spoke to mum, she was in good spirits, but struggled a little.

Boys in bed, tea just ready to eat. Then Poldark at 9pm
