I've obv. missed something, what is Cleganebowl?

HandbagCrab · 13/06/2016 11:02

I thought this episode was disappointing. I thought the hound and the brotherhood were the best bits and I'm glad the brotherhood still have the Robin Hood thing going on. I'm hoping they join up with Jon next episode along with the Tullys, Littlefinger, Lord Percy, Arya, Night's Watch and every other group of characters that have some kind of vaguely redeeming feature and are in the vicinity so the series can move on to battle the White Walkers.

I'm glad I only got properly into this at Easter by watching the previous seasons on now TV because I think I would be throwing things at the telly after 6 years of following the story to have a frustrating episode like this! Although I think it works better as a binge watch as there are many episodes which although beautiful and well acted, nothing much of import happens and lots of storylines seem to be drama for its own sake which feel a bit soapy.

CaitAgusMadra · 13/06/2016 11:11

Cleganebowl is a fan theory - basically that the Clegane brothers Sandor (aka the Hound) and Gregor (aka the mountain / Ser Robert Strong) would fight in Cersei's trial by combat. With the mountain representing Cersei and the Hound representing the Faith.

Can't see it happening now. Think the hound will stay with the brotherhood.

Btw who is Lord Percy?

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 13/06/2016 11:21

Cleganebowl is the theory that the mountain would be cersei's champion and the hound would be the faith's champion in cersei's trial by combat. During which the hound would somehow miraculously defeat the mountain (not sure how that would have happened) but now the faith have outlawed trials by combat that won't happen. Probably for the best! I reckon cersei will sic the mountain on the faith and he will kill loads before they manage to take him down.

OlennasWimple · 13/06/2016 11:30

Lord Percy is the character played by Tim Mcinnerny - lord Glover I think (he was lord Percy in Blackadder)

Underwhelmed by this episode: four mins of "previously on" just to remind us Arya is handy fighting in the dark? Hmm

RedMapleLeaf · 13/06/2016 11:47

I'm feeling a bit bewildered by the whole thing now. So far I've believed that GRRR had a fantastically complex and interconnected master plan with all sorts of twists and turns combined with a massive "ah ha! Of course!" ending.

Now it's going all Lost on us.

We've had the White Walkers marching invincibly to attack the South and yet men of the Black Watch, Wildlings and Bran's gang have been across the same stretch of land repeatedly.

And they're the lucky ones, everyone else just gets killed off.

IAmNotAMindReader · 13/06/2016 11:51

The house of B&W story could still throw up some twists.
Either Arya is going to be of some use back in Westeros or it's just going to be the Waif wearing Arya's face to get close to some targets.
Unfortunately, I fear the latter as the season so far has gone to great lengths to show us Arya getting batted off every wall there was in Bravos by the Waif. The show writers told us at every turn she didn't stand a chance against the Waif. Even her plan to draw her out ended up with her getting stabbed. It's a bit implausible to assume the addition of dark conditions could turn the tables so much in Aryas favour.

bettys · 13/06/2016 11:53

Thanks for clearing up Cleganebowl, missed that one.
Also glad the Brotherhood are still (sort of) goodies and hope the Hound will join them.
For a moment at the end I thought Jaqen was going to turn into Syrio as Arya walked away, but actually never bought into that theory.

AnnaChronism · 13/06/2016 12:04

Another place marking episode.

Tommen is a goner, I wonder if it will be Tommen Vs Cersei and what will happen then.

Arya is yawn.

Jaime and Brienne drew up some battle lines, that was interesting.

Where the eff did Daenerys spring from?

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 13/06/2016 12:09

She arrived on the dragon. I guess the dothraki are following.

Why did the slavers attack? At least I guess this means tyrion's terrible bargain is null and void?

BonerSibary · 13/06/2016 12:44

Arya is yawn. I don't think that's the last we've seen of Jaqen either.

I'm not surprised Ramsay's been left out of it for a few episodes. It's the only thing they could do, really. He's got Rickon and they'd either have to show him behaving out of character by leaving him alone, or mistreating a child which viewers wouldn't like. There has been violence against children in GOT but most of it happens offscreen and is only alluded to.

I think Margaery is manipulating Tommen to get Cersei out of the way. That's part of the reason she's playing along rather than letting the Tyrells and Lannisters fight together. Not sure where that leaves her brother though.

CaptainWarbeck · 13/06/2016 12:53

Ugh sooo disappointed with the Arya storyline. Episode named after her and all that storyline build up just to say oh actually I'm a Stark and don't want to be a faceless man. Which we knew before anyway when she didn't kill Lady Crane.

KatieKateKat · 13/06/2016 13:08

The Hound Got His Willy On Screen! Grin

Sorry, no one else had mentioned it and I couldn't not!! I love the hound. I was properly giddy when he reappeared last week!

Loved the Brienne/Jamie scenes. Made me all warm inside.

I was a bit Hmm at how well Arya could recover after basically being gutted! Not realistic at all.

Can someone just recap the Beric storyline and its relevance please, I'm having a thick moment.

EverySongbirdSays · 13/06/2016 13:58

In the book Beric dies resurrecting Catelyn Stark into Lady Stoneheart but that can't be happening now as its too long after. He's been resurrected several times in the past

Someone has posted on 'Winter Is Coming' about the fact that Cersei is being tried for incest and that if found guilty then Tommen would no longer be King. So, why would the HS want to try her when he and Tommen are both singing from the same hymn sheet,? It would totally fuck him over if Tommen loses the crown, and if he did, who would be next in line with all the Baratheons dead? I know Dany has a claim but she's still in Mereen, not sure who in Westeros would be next in line.

BonerSibary · 13/06/2016 14:09

Any thoughts on the Cersie/little birds thing? I have googled, would like people's views.

Adventuregame · 13/06/2016 14:21

What was the rumour bit that Cersi asked the old guy about. I remember him having the 'little birds' reporting back but can't remember what she asked him to find out ?

Mumanddadtoone · 13/06/2016 14:23

A PP thought it might be wildfire

Adventuregame · 13/06/2016 14:24

But what about it ?

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 13/06/2016 14:25

The cersei/little birds thing is that there was a rumour that loads of wyldfyre was stored under the Sept by mad king aerys. And it looks like qyburn has just confirmed this to be true.

givemushypeasachance · 13/06/2016 14:35

I think Cersei is going to be on trial for the affair with cousin Lancel, not any of the Jamie-shenanigans (isn't she?). Lancel spilled the beans when he went all pious so he's given evidence which amounts to a formal charge, but there hasn't been anything other than rumours and allegations about C&L.

givemushypeasachance · 13/06/2016 14:43

I've found the amount of storylines put on the back-burner for weeks at a time frustrating this series. We didn't see any of the North this week, we haven't seen Bran & co since Benjen appeared and saved the day with his flaming mace and rabbit blood cocoa - where are they supposed to be going? They escaped the wights and that was the last we've seen for ages. Should we assume they're going somewhere or just sat in the snow twiddling their thumbs? What's been going on with Ramsey & Rickon - is that poor kid going to get any lines before he's most likely fridged next week to make everyone hate Ramsey some more (because clearly we haven't had more than enough motivation to hate him yet). What about Dorn - okay everyone hates the Dorn storyline because it was butchered, but there's been a coup and they killed Myrcella and then what - shouldn't the Lannisters be having wanting to repay some debts there? Is that coup the last anyone will hear of them full-stop, or are they ever going to be tied back into the main plot? How are things at the wall - is it still standing in Ed's hands? Are the white walkers marching on it? Has Euron realised the Iron Islands have sod-all trees left so he's not going to get many ships built?

Adventuregame · 13/06/2016 14:50

Ah ok, thanks

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 13/06/2016 14:58

The last 2 episodes are going to be extra long apparently so it will fill in lots of gaps

EverySongbirdSays · 13/06/2016 15:28

Only longer by a small amount - I feel they've really floundered with this episode - and potentially really fucked up storylines ie Arya because of not having the book. This is the first episode were I've really felt that going off book is a problem
