pixie I was terrified for that reason when going for scan with youngest. I had a colleague who fell pregnant around the same time as me, and she'd just returned from mat leave so had a 1 yr old when she fell pregnant again unexpectedly. It was triplets Shock

She went from 1 to 4 kids under the age of 2 - needless to say she never came back to work after that! I don't think I'll ever comprehend how she coped in that scenario!!

Item about female combat medic who got a medal for treating someone whilst under fire on Women's hour this morning R4 about 25 mins in

Oh my word, RL far too hectic at the mo for my liking! DS all ok though. Phew!

kel good luck with the potty training. I tried potty training my DS when I was pregnant with DD and gave up after two days of constant changing and clearing up, and decided to wait till he was ready (pure laziness really!). Nursery tried to push me to do it, but I told them they could take him out of nappies if they wanted to, but I wasn't! So, left it till he was ready, which was when he was just over three. He saw his friends peeing up a tree and wanted to do it too. Told him he couldn't do it in a nappy and that was the end of nappies. We didn't ever stay in (I can't do that, we are out every day, for most of the day!) only had a couple of accidents, and he was dry at night a few months later. I definitely put it down to him being older, and is was infinitely easier! Did the same with DD, she was over three too, didnt have any accidents for about a year and as also dry at night. My advice (not that you want it) but tell preschool to sod off, and do it when you and the kids are ready (unless, of course preschool won't let them in, in nappies!!!). Definitely, definitely recommend waiting till they want to do it though, and ignore everyone so tells you their babies were out of nappies by six months (I always found those were the ones whose kids were still having accidents all the time, and who had to carry bags of spare clothes round). Anyway, I'll get off my soap box now!! Either way, you know your kids best, and you should do what's right for you and them, and ignore what anyone else says XXxx

Onlygirljen · 30/06/2015 19:38

Well said nick - in my experience only ever do it when they're ready and willing, otherwise it's a waste of time.

pixieg1rl · 30/06/2015 19:40

What Nickel said. DS was over 3 when we did it. He was dry at night almost immediately, daytime dryness took a bit longer, he gets really absorbed in whatever he's doing and leaves it until it's nearly too late.

Rhubarb01 · 30/06/2015 19:47

I have twins as well - DD/DS. Yes to the memories of stomping down the road from dropping eldest at school with two screaming brats - one under each arm and feeling like the worst mother in the world. When mine were born I had three under the age of three and I often tell people that everything was blur untll the twins went to school. As for potty training - DD twin was an angel and grasped it in two days - elder DD didn't mind you - but DS was just like yours pixie far to interested in other stuff to think of going to the loo and probably nearly 4 before he was any use at going to the toilet when he needed. Even when he was 5 or 6 it was still common to see him running down the hall to the loo pulling down his trousers as he ran!

Nickel45 · 30/06/2015 19:58

My eight year old still does that rhu!!!!
He was much better as four!

Onlygirljen · 30/06/2015 20:23

I too have an 8 year old who constantly does that, drives me nuts!!

Nickel45 · 30/06/2015 20:47

pixie I've never found anyone else who waited till they were over three!! it was definitely well worth waiting though, in my view! This thread is brilliant!!

Phew, so hot today, kids still awake and REALLY annoying me. I need to get on with stuff, and in and out of their rooms for the last half hour. I just need a failsafe method to get them to go to sleep by themselves every night. Any ideas?!??!?!

pixieg1rl · 30/06/2015 21:02

Roofies and gin?

Nickel45 · 30/06/2015 21:05

For me, or them?!

pixieg1rl · 30/06/2015 21:06

I tried before he was 3, it was a disaster. He's like his Dad, a complete dreamer. This week (encouraged by nursery) he's being Mr Independent and insisting on doing it all by himself, which is why I'm scrubbing poo out of his pants this evening. Sigh.

pixieg1rl · 30/06/2015 21:06

Can't let them have all the fun Nickel

KellyHb · 30/06/2015 21:34

Cheers guys for your potty training tales. I don't feel so bad now. Smile There is so much pressure to get them done by the time they go to school nursery and you do make you feel like a bad parent if you dont. But I'm def waiting a few weeks more.

I was scrubbing poo out of boys pants all last week pixie. It was grim.

Richtea19 · 30/06/2015 21:38

nickel my eldest son was dry (ish) by 3yrs, but youngest was nearly 3 1/2! I had a massive battle with pre-school as they wanted him out of nappies. It just wasn't convenient for me. I'm was always out and about and I didn't have time for accidents and I wasn't prepared to stay in. They made me feel like I was selfish! But in the end he was dry in a few days and never an accident. Basically kids are ready when they are!

Nickel45 · 30/06/2015 21:39

How old are they kel? For our nursery, it was just for their convenience (although how it can be more convenient to be cleaning up wee and poo all day, instead of changing a few nappies, is beyond me!). I bet there will be other kids still in nappies ... or still weeing themselves all day!!!! Honest, best not to worry about it x

pixieg1rl · 30/06/2015 21:39

Don't feel bad about buying cheap pants and just throwing them away Kelly; these ones are Peppa Pig and far too precious (apparently).

Onlygirljen · 30/06/2015 21:42

Napisan is ace for getting poo stains out, I've found through unfortunate experience.

On a completely different note (hopefully), I hope first day back at work went well today BK Smile

pixieg1rl · 30/06/2015 21:47

Yes, I hope it went ok BK. Are you having a staggered return?

KellyHb · 30/06/2015 23:01

nickel the boys are 3 next month. I have to remind myself sometimes not to complain about the boys too much-theyre lucky to be here.

When I had my 12 week scan, the hospital said that the boys had twin to twin transfusion which means one twin is getting too much blood and the other isn't getting enough and its life threatening for both if the conditions not dealt with quickly. So the next day me and DH had to get to Kings College Hosp in London for me to get key hole surgery. Luckily both survived. I think there was a documentary on TV the other month about that type of surgery and how you can only get it in London apparently.

Richtea19 · 30/06/2015 23:10

woof I've finally caught up with FF, F..king Hillarous! In this weather, a long white flowing dress is ideal for floating around reception! I can't stop sniggering :)

BK28 · 01/07/2015 01:00

Reading all your comments on potty training brought back lots of memories..had to agree with comments re the nursery wants it...mine was just to busy with other things to bother with that... I left him in pullups and sent spare shorts.he soon cottoned on when he saw what others did, do was well over 3&1/2 before day time dry. Now nighttime was a whole new ball bag!!! Nearly 9 when we
cracked that one!!

pixie and only thanks for the good wishes! Phased return meant work from home and start ploughing through five weeks of emails....fresh wave of panic when you see what you have to catch up on!!

Has anyone caught up with whajeb latest chapter of Invincible... When she writes like that she really is!!! Amazing pulled at the old heart strings and needed tissues!!!

Richtea19 · 01/07/2015 07:01

Morning all, I can't believe I had a dream last night that featured BA/CJ, I'm not entirely sure which as it was rather odd.m I'm just amazed I can remember some of it. Unfortunatley it wasn't M rated. It was a bit strange!

We (me and don't know who else, but there were other's) were in a field waiting for a ceromony to start. He then started to do country dancing and grabbed my hand. We kept getting tied up and apologising to each other.

I wonder what a psychologist would think of that!!!!!!

I blame woof for reading her crazy FF before bed!

icemistOBE · 01/07/2015 07:18

Morning . Roasting hot already. On way to work. It's Canada Day today so we're having a BBQ after work.
Could do with a paddling pool already

Morning all. The paddling pool would be even better with CJ in it. Very hot again. I'm not very good with humidity and heat. Was nearly unbearable in work yesterday. My neighbour has just texted from her Greek holiday. Seems they're having cooler weather than us!
