Started watching it on Amazon Prime last night, I'm hooked already.

Haven't read the books it's based off, which makes a nice change for me!

Anyone else?

I haven't watched it yet, but a tiny bit was filmed in our village. A bit with monks apparently - they filmed at the castle.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 10/04/2015 23:14

Agreed red, if it's the scene we're thinking of Ive often just skipped straight to that part and carried on from there!

Shodan · 10/04/2015 23:33

but there is a particularly lovely and compelling section that takes place in Edinburgh.

My absolute favourite bit in all the books Grin

Ellisisland · 11/04/2015 06:54

Ok am now going to have read them to find out which big you are on about!

I do picture him as that yes! But thats a bit sad because he's a good man at the end of the day. I guess all heroes can't be handsome!

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 12/04/2015 20:23

Has anyone seen the latest episode? I'm watching it as soon as ds is asleep Smile

DancingDinosaur · 12/04/2015 20:37

Just about to watch it. Exciting ....

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 13/04/2015 08:08

I fell asleep watching it last night! Damn. Have to wait all day now.

I saw it last night. Good opening scene Blush
Thought they went away from the book the most in the latest episode but it all worked. Love Gaellis still and that Leoghire (sp?) girl gives good bitch face !

Grantaire · 13/04/2015 10:41

I watched it at 9am yesterday Blush

I do think Laoghaire gives good bitch face. I do not like her in the slightest which is all credit to the woman playing her. Geillis Duncan is a fabulous character (though her Scottish accent is a bit hit and miss). I'm looking forward to them explaining her back story.

I am simultaneously enjoying Outlander and dreading it continuing. In my head Jamie and Claire can just stay happily married and live a long and happy life together. Sadly, I've read the books (re-reading atm) and know it's not quite that straightforward. Grin

I sprained my ankle last week and sadly can't go to work this week Wink. Unfortunately i can see I'll be forced to rewatch the first 8 episodes so that I can go straight on to the new ones.

Grantaire · 13/04/2015 11:03

Oh you poor, poor thing. Forced to sit Down and watch Jamie Fraser Outlander for hours on end. You have my complete sympathy. Perhaps some cake and chocolate will take the edge off your pain? Do it. Don't suffer unnecessarily.

Applecross · 13/04/2015 11:09

I hope the twisted ankle isn't too serious, just serious enough! I enjoyed last night's episode immensely, the baby was sad though, was hoping it would wake up as she cuddled it!

Ellisisland · 13/04/2015 11:27

Oh no my hope all the episodes take your mind of it ! Grin

The actress playing Gellis is actually Dutch so I guess her accent isn't too bad considering that.

I'm not sure telling my DM about the series was my best idea. She sent me a text last night which read "did they know about cunnilingus in the 18thC?" BlushBlush

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 13/04/2015 11:33

I'm forcing myself here, hard job but I need to keep my spirits up. Sadly no cake or chocolate in the house, and the shop is a 10 minute hobble away Sad
Loving the costumes, especially the knitwear

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 13/04/2015 11:47

did they know about cunnilingus in the 18thC?

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 13/04/2015 12:20

did they know about cunnilingus in the 18thC? Grin

It reminded me of the bit in the books where hadn't washed properly for a while and he was about to go dan unda, and she's all like, "Jamie, no!" and he's all like, "why not?" and she's like "...the smell" and then let him anyway - anyone remember it?

OP posts:
ThatsNotEvenAWord · 13/04/2015 12:31

Haha! I feel like that's part of their wedding night... Definitely remember the scene anyway.

Applecross · 13/04/2015 14:42

There are a few bits you wish they'd glossed over from the book! I could also do with a few less almost rape scenes - if they'd made captain Randall a nicer character it would have improved things I adore the actor!

Iamblossom · 13/04/2015 14:45

stated watching it last night on Prime. I went to school with Frank!

Ellisisland · 13/04/2015 16:28

Iamblossom really?! I love him I think he is a fantastic actor.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 13/04/2015 16:34

He was in Game of Thrones as well I think?

Grantaire · 13/04/2015 17:38

Tobias Menzies is great. I think he does a good job of playing Frank and Jack so differently. He's Edmure Tully in GoT iirc.

Lotte Verbeek who plays Geillis is Dutch yes and I think she looks and acts the part brilliantly. The cadence of her speech is the thing which jars the most I suppose and it is because she's Dutch but as DH pointed out last night it does help with the actual story behind where she's from and her sounding like she doesn't quite fit in with the locals (I'm trying to be as vague as possible here!).

I don't know about cunnilingus. Blow jobs go back to time immemorial. There are some pretty explicit images of Osiris receiving a blow job from Iris. There are quite a few similar references from ancient Egypt. I can't remember anything about it happening the other way round. I'd google but, well, I tried something like that once before and all I asked for was a bloody brownie recipe.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 13/04/2015 17:46

From the dredges of my memory I think the 18thC was quite a good time for women sexually speaking, before the Victorians decided they didn't like it and had to lie back and think of England. Grin

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 13/04/2015 17:46

Or Scotland
