Started watching it on Amazon Prime last night, I'm hooked already.

Haven't read the books it's based off, which makes a nice change for me!

Anyone else?

Ooh I'm saving it to watch tonight, love Outlander Sundays! How many episodes are going to be in season 1 do we know?

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2015 15:54

16 episodes

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 19/04/2015 16:31

Oh good, suddenly feared there might only be 12 and wondered how that was going to work Confused

hulla · 19/04/2015 16:33

I cried too! I think this is my fave episode so far.

Now I'm analysing some of the things Geillis said and it makes sense and then made me cry more.

Loved the last few scenes, it did have me guessing which way it would go despite knowing there were more episodes/series.

Yep, Ned is very easy to warm too.

Ellisisland · 19/04/2015 17:35

Loved this episode. My favourite lines were from Gellis

"It's not a maypole,Claire "
"Looks like I'm going to a fucking barbecue"

Love Ned. The look on his face at the end of the trial.
Loved the last scene, it was really well done and even though I've read the book I was still caught up in it.

Am on book 3 now after being told to keep reading on here and as I always do what strangers on the internet tell me to Grin I have nearly finished the third one. I know they are filming the second book, wonder how many they will do.

Ellisisland · 19/04/2015 17:50

This is a really good review of this weeks episode. Interesting point of view I thought.

Hate her.

Great episode. Sam and Caitriona's chemistry is just WOW. I wonder if there's something offscreen g'wan on...?

According to gossip there is ....

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 19/04/2015 20:42

Ooh gossip? I don't know what would be more awkward, pretending to shag your costar in front of 30 people, or pretending to shag your girlfriend in front of 30 people.

Grantaire · 19/04/2015 21:57

Sam and Cait seem to get on brilliantly. Their chemistry is fab.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 19/04/2015 22:11

Oh wow just watched ep 11. Can't believe I found myself feeling so sorry for Geilis! The end made me cry, trying not to give away any spoilers but it made me think of a future event. The scene by the fireside!

Grantaire · 19/04/2015 22:13

She's a fascinating character.

LillyJames86 · 19/04/2015 22:17

Does anyone know what chapter in the first book the tv series is currently on? I want to buy the book this week - but will probably skip ahead to where the show current is.

thanks!

Redglitter · 19/04/2015 22:18

I think it's just gossip and wishful thinking from fans that they're an item

I think they're just very good actors who know how to give fans what they want

Redglitter · 19/04/2015 22:19

Lilly I'd read the book from the start. the series is BASED on the book so there are a few differences.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 19/04/2015 22:36

Lilly I really would read from the start, they're such readable books you'll catch up on no time and like redglitter says the books have lots more detail etc.

grantaire isn't she just! I think I need to do a reread very soon

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2015 22:40

I agree with the others about reading the whole book, Lilly, but to answer your question, the current episode (11) is based on Chapter 26 "Thou Shalt not Suffer a Witch to Live" so the next episode will be based on Chapter 27 "The Laird's Return."

LillyJames86 · 19/04/2015 22:41

Thanks! Ill read from the start. Does the rest of the book series focus on Jamie and Claire?

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2015 22:44

Definitely. The rest of the series focuses on them and their extended families, but their relationship is always at the core of each book.

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2015 22:48

I am American but the last time I was in the UK, I bought Cross Stitch which is the UK version. It differs some from the US version called Outlander. I know that in all the other books, Gabaldon refused to have a separate version done for any country.

Applecross · 19/04/2015 22:50

Just finished it, Tim mcinnery does a great evil priest! Good episode!

LillyJames86 · 19/04/2015 22:59

Seneca - how does it differ? I live in the UK but have a US kindle so was going to buy the american kindle one. Should I buy the UK one instead?

Redglitter · 19/04/2015 23:09

Get Outlander not Cross Stitch. Cross Stitch was 'toned down' for UK audiences so there are a few bits missing. definitely go for Outlander

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2015 23:09

They changed some of the language (horses became ponies) and some of the dates as I recall and deleted one sex scene, which is really funny to me because I think the US is more puritanical then the UK. I didn't read all of Cross Stitch, so I can't really say which is best. Gabaldon had never been to Scotland when she wrote Outlander and she makes some mistakes that I think the British editor sought to correct.

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2015 23:13

Cross-posted with Redglitter. It is so funny that they toned it down for the UK. Smile
