Ooh yes orphan I'd forgotten my obsession admiration for Crixus lately...wish he'd do something else other than Hobbit auk dressing up for me to drool over...what a body Grin

Rhubarb01 · 07/02/2015 18:10

Idly searching around t'internet today and came across this quote about the importance of storytelling and thought it quite apt for us, given our discussions on this thread over the last few months.

"When people turn to fictional characters, it's often because they want an escape. The stories of these people shelter us from the storm of our daily lives; they save us, if only for a little while. But when we really give in, become invested, let ourselves be vulnerable, something changes. We begin to feel that we know them. It's no longer just an escape, but part of us, something that makes us who we are.

These characters teach us that incredible adversity can be overcome. That people can love each other for ever. That life can be an adventure. That magic can be real. And even if these miracles never happen to us we begin to go through life believing that, someday, they could."

orphan · 07/02/2015 18:39

rhubarb oh yes, I'd like to believe in the miracle that someday CJ would appear on my doorstep saying "Missed me?" with behind him the delivery man carrying the swivel chair, Persian rug and executive desk.

orphan · 07/02/2015 18:43

Seriously, though I do wonder if I'm a little too invested in these fictional characters. I've always loved escaping into a book (as a child I was never without one) but I've never been this captivated. I think it's this forum and the capability to talk to others which fuels and keeps alive the obsession/addiction.

Ilovelblue · 07/02/2015 18:45

Gosh Rhubarb that hits the nail on the head.

I'm showing myself up here but I hadn't a clue what a slanket was. I thought it was a typo...!

Nickel45 · 07/02/2015 18:53

rhubarb that's spot on.

I've had a rubbish day today, kids constantly at each other all day, so DH in a bad mood. Can't wait for them all to go to bed! Is brill to come on here and get away from the 'normal', much prefer the calmness of slankets, manuals, swivel chairs and rugs! Right, best go get them out the bath before the drown each other!!

cjwoofwoof · 07/02/2015 19:05

Ditto Rhubarb that's spot on. I love to escape from my RL as often as possible and this thread is totally therapeutic

icemistOBE · 07/02/2015 19:20

That is so accurate. This programme, chat and ff have been my escape from things at home. Makes it a bit sad that

mooj is your steward neighbour of the long and slender limbs straight or gay? My colleague's girlfriend works for BA and claims that all the stewards are gay but I have no idea if this is true or not.

My next door neighbour is 76 and a widower. I sometimes take him a meal round (and he's handy to call on for any DIY jobs I may struggle with in return). I went round with a lamb casserole late this afternoon and he was complaining about how bad the television had been last night. I agreed and said nonchalantly I found a recording of a series set in Afghanistan so thought I'd watch it. He didn't have a clue what I was on about so I casually said "Only like it for the uniforms!" He looked at me really strangely and said "Have you been drinking?" If only he knew what we talk about on here!

pixieg1rl · 07/02/2015 19:42

You'd have thought by now I'd be prepared for a cjwoof entendre, but no, G&T all over my phone screen.

moojangles · 07/02/2015 19:43

Very straight, sort of married (continually separating), toddler. My knowledge is not from stalking-in same squadron as DH!

orphan · 07/02/2015 19:48

mooj sorry, I know I'm being dim, but what do you mean by steward? Air line steward?

orphan · 07/02/2015 19:51

ilove alcoholic and hardcore porn addict! You're gaining a good reputation.Grin

moojangles · 07/02/2015 19:52

Stewards-do the waiter type serving in messes & at functions etc. Air stewards on planes.
DH is same squadron but different trade

moojangles · 07/02/2015 19:54

Some seem to do both. That's my understanding of it!
Nicely done ilove

orphan · 07/02/2015 19:55

Thanks mooj.Smile

moojangles · 07/02/2015 19:56

Bugger, keep posting too soon. My understanding of it may be faulty, sort of fill in blanks DH leaves out

Ilovelblue · 07/02/2015 20:54

Sorry mooj, my mistake. I was forgetting you (or rather DH) is/are RAF. I was definitely thinking airline steward.

onlygirl, if Mr Onlygirl were to find out about your writing.... did you not once say that he had enjoyed certain benefits "in the interests of research" in connection with your storyline which may, or may not, have had associations with "The Manual"?

By the way, what is his view of RL Chris?

I still haven't shaken this bug off fully. Just woken up after nodding off in the chair. I saw my friend this afternoon (who generously passed on her germs) and she is complaining of extreme tiredness too.

apsara03 · 07/02/2015 21:43

Observation went well yesterday. RL still busy looking forward to half term in a week.
enjoying the new fanfics -thanks ladies
watched reigned earlier. Enjoying seeing BA on screen despite the carpets and rif but may have to have it on mute - the script at times is appalling Sad

I concur with the therapeutic nature of this thread and fiction in general -have caveats loved to lose myself in good book/series/film. Will have to get the one you've been talking about. I'm currently reading I am Malala -inspiring read and interesting

cjwoofwoof · 07/02/2015 22:35

Just managed a very edited version of Ep 5 ie. only the bits featuring CJ as DH having early night and kids in bedrooms on PS4 etc. Aaah! He certainly doesn't get shabby with time - the looks and "even with a limp" in the restaurant, the Afghan grime bare chest wounded leg bed scene and the slow climb upstairs following the big hand on the bannister - no decompression at Woof Manor for sure. May dig out and dust off the prototype blow up plastic surgery suit for DH later and give it an extra large pump up. Lovely.

cjwoofwoof · 07/02/2015 22:38

What's happened to elsie who did all our great ringtones? "Even with a limp" has just reminded me of her efforts on here to put them altogether. Come back to us elsie !

Ilovelblue · 07/02/2015 22:48

cjwoof I've just been watching episode 5 too! I keep watching the restaurant scene so as to commit it to memory for my trip there in two weeks time! Deep down in my imagination, I still think BA/CJ is going to be in that restaurant on Sunday night just waiting for us me.

cjwoofwoof · 07/02/2015 23:00

Just don't let that pesky waitress stop you snogging his face off with her silly wine top-up ilove. Just keep going and elbow her out of the way if you have to. Do not let anything get in the way of locking lips and for goodness sake tell him you've already got a room booked so no need to go back to his place, even if his parents are in Lake Garda. But don't appear TOO eager or he might become Captain Bossyboots...on the other hand...

icemistOBE · 07/02/2015 23:12

Ooh captain bossy boots sound very intriguing

Love that pic icemist it's got it all - headset, gloves, vest, stern face, big watch, forearms. One of my faves. If you were faced with that over the dinner table he could be as Captain Bossyboots as he liked Grin
