Corrie thread - New thread for the New Year, time for another disaster?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/12/2014 17:51

New thread in time for the new year - hopefully this year will see the back of some awful characters.

I would personally like to see the following rounded up and shoved in a deep hole in the Red Rec:

Izzy
Anna
Owen
Gary
Michelle
Tracey-Luv
Gavin
Faye
Yasmeen and her entire extended family
The Community Centre
Kylie
Todd
Steph

That'll do for starters.

I said the same about Julie, she was like a different person last night, not in a good way. I'm very fond of her character, I wish she wasn't leaving, but that was ridiculous stuff last night.
Demanding that Sophie go into work at 6.30 etc. Nonsense.
I presume some of it was to pave the way to her and Dev splitting up when he returns from this apparently sudden trip.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 14/02/2015 13:34

The actress who plays Julie is leaving the soap - this storyline is to facilitate a split but tbh it all just seems really crap. Itd be better if Dev was found in bed with Mary by her Grin

BreconBeBuggered · 14/02/2015 17:18

I could go for that storyline, Hacked. Perhaps Dev's India trip will help him reassess his relationship with Julie and warm to Mary's more matronly charms.

woodhill · 14/02/2015 17:45

why is Julie being so annoying. I'm sure Dev was happy with Sawphie and why isn't Julie at work.

The Fay storyline is very far fetched and no back story makes it incredulous.

CharityD · 14/02/2015 17:57

Corrie seems to do that sometimes, change someone's personality in order to suit a story. Julie was always a nice, slightly ditzy character. She played a blinder in rescuing people and keeping them calm, in the bus crash story.
Now, in order to write her out, she suddenly became a pain, last night.
I still don't know what the story is with Dev's sudden departure for India. There are loads of ways they could write out Julie without that, IMO.

SweetsForMySweet · 14/02/2015 18:20

There wasn't much build-up to the Faye storyline other than a brief mention that suggested Faye had slept with someone a few weeks back, Craig asked her in Roy's cafe if the rumours were true and she locked herself in the toilets.
It was a lost opportunity that no one died in that bus crash. I record corrie now and blast through the boring bits (which doesn't leave much).

hildasmuriel · 14/02/2015 18:41

I hate it when they change a person's character. I don't mind a slow evolution over time or showing a different side to them. This whole Julie and Dev thing is mightily odd. Why bother getting them together only for him to hop off to India and her to leave permanently? It's as though both actors saw their destiny as boring married Corrie couple and sabotaged it by taking leave / leaving.

ajandjjmum · 14/02/2015 19:02

They've also changed Dev's character to accommodate the storyline - why would a single father running his own business suddenly take off to India?

CharityD · 14/02/2015 19:45

Yes, and just as his life is (presumably) moving into a better, more positive place, with Julie on the scene, getting on well with the twins, and so on.
I wonder will any reference be made to his absence in the gym, or indeed the kebab shop Grin.

eddiemairswife · 14/02/2015 23:15

He also had other shops in the Greater Manchester area at one time. I wonder what happened to those.

hildasmuriel · 15/02/2015 00:20

He lost his other shops when he had money troubles a good few years ago but just managed to hold on to the corner shop.

marthasmith · 15/02/2015 00:53

So they pick the only one who is actually funny to have depression. Why Steve, they're just spoiling his character.

RainbowCake · 15/02/2015 14:58

I think the Faye story is going to give Owen(hate him) yet another stick to beat Gary with.
He gave her some money to go to a party/ice skating and she came back upset/drunk. This may be 2 episodes I have mixed up. But it is something along those lines and Owen had a fit then at him as it was when all the Phelan stuff was happening.

CharityD · 15/02/2015 15:52

I feel sorry for Faye now. They had just started to show a nicer side of her character, and I liked the fact that she and Craig were becoming friends. He is just the sweetest character ever.
I wish they had left out this pregnancy story line. Now that it's going ahead, I wish they all knew. There will be shouting, lots of shouting.

Someone, possibly Anna, will decide that Craig is the dad, and will attempt to take on Beth in a punch up, on the street. I can see it happening.
Let's get it over with.

Owen's ex turning up strikes me as a story not fully thought out. Presumably Katy will leave with her. Will we notice? Probably not.

thenewbrunette · 15/02/2015 15:57

Totally agree with comments above re Julie and her personality transplant. So annoying! All thst business bossing Sophie around seemed totally out of character. Also why did Dev ask both Mary anf Julie to look after kids - made no sense.

Why IS Dev going for 4 weeks? Anyone know real reason? DP wondered if actor been in rehab??

thenewbrunette · 15/02/2015 15:59

Yes Charity Katy is going to go back to Portugal with her mum. And presumably Joseph if she remembers to take him! I actually quite like the character of Linda.

thenewbrunette · 15/02/2015 16:03

I had forgotten about all Dev's other shops eddiemairswife. He also had an AWFUL daughter Amber as a result of affair with one of shop managers. Whatever happened to her?

eddiemairswife · 15/02/2015 16:06

I think Owen is also leaving. Faye might have had a more stable life if she had remained in care. What with her adoptive father leaving, her real dad turning up and the consequent argy-bargy between Anna, Owen and Tim, the enforced move to a small flat and now the pregnancy. Not to mention the constant shouting and arguing. Another thought - will Katy take Joseph?

CharityD · 15/02/2015 16:16

Yes, I believe Owen is leaving. He and Anna seem to be heading for a split, despite the fact that they initially seemed to get past the Phelan story quite well.
If Katy takes Joseph, Ches will grimace a bit, but then it will be over. Grin

thenewbrunette · 15/02/2015 16:44

You're right about the instability of Faye's life eddiemairswife - but there is hardly a child in Corrie who hasn't been through parental divorce or separation/numerous step parents/ parents dying, parents being sent to prison (rightly or wrongly), parents setting flats on fire while they are in them, parents disappearing to America/Portsmouth/going awol, parents being alcoholics, drug addicts, drug dealers or murderers. If you ask me, Faye has had it easyGrin

woodhill · 15/02/2015 17:56

Amber seems to have been forgotten again.

Ellenora5 · 15/02/2015 18:13

Didn't it turn out that Dev had a load of other kids some time ago, think it was around the time him and Sunita were getting married or when she had the twins. I was only thinking about Amber the other day and why she left, and that lead me to thinking about Grame, the window cleaner, I liked him, and for some unknown bizarre reason that lead me to thinking about Emily and how she found Judy unconscious and twins alone in the house and then I was thinking about Gary her husband and what happened to him, and then I was thinking Jesus Christ Ellenora get yourself a life Grin.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/02/2015 18:46

Grin Ellenora

OP posts:
eddiemairswife · 15/02/2015 19:35

Amber was an interesting character. I was sad when she left.

CharityD · 15/02/2015 20:57

Ellenora Judy is alive and well over in the Dales as MeganWink.
I don't know what happened to Gary and the twins though Grin

Yes, I need a life too...
