Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

Another thought...
At the moment they seem to have drawn a line under the fact that Ian was killed. Maybe that's a bit of poetic license or maybe Vincent will say that Oliver's body is in that bit of water. Then, when they investigate further they find Ian. They'll all be implicated in that one....apart from Mark.
So we find out what happened but leads on to the next series?

I obviously have too much time on my hands!

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 11:11

Is the lake where Ian's body is the same lake as behind the swimming pool?

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 11:23

I'm not sure about the lakes - has there been a clear shot of a local map?

I've a couple of questions - can anyone help?

a) Vincent became a suspect because Baptiste picked him out from a list of local sex offenders. Why did he home in on him so quickly?
b) Baptiste got the info about Greg from someone other than the British police LO. So how? Because wouldn't the British police copy all stuff ha bonded over to the French forces to their officer on the spot?

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 11:30

That's a good point about Greg auntie.

We haven't seen much of Greg in the last few episodes have we? Can I just clarify - all we know of Greg is that Tony beat him up because he was jealous of his possible involvement with Emily? Then Greg was paid off to keep quiet. Am I missing anything?

SolomanDaisy · 05/12/2014 11:41

Ian's body is out at sea, not in a lake. Ian's house was on the coast, not in chalons due bois.

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 11:41

Ep1: Tony and FIL talk about something is the past serious enough to provoke a revenge attack on Tony's family as serious as child abduction.

Ep2: official-looking documents including photos of Greg's bloody face arrive with Baptiste "Trouble for Tony 'Ughes"

Ep3: Tony's violent temper established, something happened between Greg and Emily, unclear what. FIL paid off Greg so he dropped charges. Greg still local to the PILs and connected to hospice where FIL died.

Nothing more since that ep?

We don't know whether or not this is the only revenge-worthy event in Tony's life.

Indianashopgirl · 05/12/2014 11:53

Dancergirl No, I'm pretty sure it's somewhere else. They have to drive there. The swimming pool was nearby. Their car was being repaired and so they would have had to walk.

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 11:58

So Ian's body hasn't been found yet?

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 12:11

No, no body; because when Vincent visited the company that still bore his name, he was told that Ian had recently been declared legally dead after 8 years missing.

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 12:17

Oh yes I remember that bit now.

But isn't that odd to be declared dead if someone can't be found??

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 12:22

Wiki on declaration of death when there is no identifiable corpse

It's not unusual, has been around for yonks, and allows the deceased's property to be inherited.

mewkins · 05/12/2014 13:01

I don't under stand why Vincent is now going to talk to malik. Especially if it's about Tony being the suspect for ian's murder. Surely a paedophile receiving treatment would want to put all that behind him.... and the way ian treated him, well he is surely grateful to whoever did away with him. Maybe he witnessed something to do with the actual abduction and isn't a red herring as I thought he was...

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 13:14

Vincent has been in prison some time between 2006 and 2014 (for he was in the same wing as Ziane, who cannot have been imprisoned before 2006).

When Malik visited Ziane in prison in 2014, seemed to be saying that he knew what had happened to Oliver Hughes and that Vincent was somehow key in it, it was 'about that man' (not sure if it's something he did, or something he knows that might allow Malik to prove his version of events).

Did the events of 2009 land Vincent back in prison?

Also, Ziane was in that provision wing for his own protection. Is that likely to be simply because imprisoned cops get a bad time in gaol? Or is the secret in his past connected to undercover work (under alias) and the exposure of his real identity puts his life at risk from criminal gang?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 05/12/2014 13:20

I guess Vincent is talking now he knows Ian is dead.

Just realised I only ever spot red herrings - so Batiste's daughter is definitely not involved Grin

mewkins · 05/12/2014 13:37

Ah thanks! Didn't pick up that they were in prison together.... interesting! !!

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 14:41

I have a theory - could the car garage man be involved? He could have seen Ollie's drawing on the back seat of the car. Could he have copied it on the basement wall to make it look like Ollie was there? Maybe the boy in the window wasn't Ollie at all?

Vistaverde · 05/12/2014 16:00

One thing that is bugging me is how did Vicent not know that Ian went missing? Does this imply he was sent to prison shortly after Ollie disappeared? As Ian was quite high profile in the town I would have thought it was something that would have been talked about etc???

diddl · 05/12/2014 16:22

Perhaps it was played down because of the tapes?

It was just said that he must be in England?

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 18:59

I've been rewatching ep3.

Baptiste and Georges know each other of old, as George used to be based in Paris (convo when he was signing the authorisation for the warehouse raid).

My (current) guess is that the Caid and the Challons/Ian rings are not connected (Georges perhaps being in the pay of Ian, but not involved in child trafficking) but somehow Vincent or Charmantaines had brought them together.

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 19:01

I was also trying to hear exactly what Sylvie said to Alain. It seemed to be call your brother because he can help us (I heard 'nous aider' was that right?) and Alain said "you have to let them do their job"

Did "them" mean the police/judiciary? Or the press pack? For we'd just seen the Hughes run the gamut of flashing cameras.

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 19:28

I'm a bit confused about that bit - who is Alain's brother??

peanutcookie · 05/12/2014 19:35

Something has been bothering me since the start and its this: why is olleh even wearing a flipping scarf anyway??!! It's clearly meant to be summer, Emily was wearing that terrible outfit that wouldn't keep a bean warm and she's wrapping olleh in a scarf Hmm

peanutcookie · 05/12/2014 19:36

Vistaverde I wondered the same thing

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 19:37

Alain of Hotel Eden and Georges the mayor/juge have the same surname, so we assume they are brothers.

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 19:44

I assumed it was a 'fashion' scarf not a scarf for warmth. Seems an odd thing to put on a 5 year old boy though.
