Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

Finding out that your husband is a murderer might not help, either!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 04/12/2014 14:19

I wonder if 'concrete' refers to the evidence that Ziane found, ie that it will prove who did it.

diddl · 04/12/2014 14:20

But that was 2006, so where has it been all this time?

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 04/12/2014 14:28

Good question. Malik was the last to have it. Maybe he's kept hold of it and was waiting for Vincent to talk to him before he could do the big reveal. If that's true then Vincent must know something pretty important. But if he was not involved in Olleh's disappearance then why wouldn't he just tell the police?

MarthasHarbour · 04/12/2014 14:32

Malik Suri has been sitting on the evidence since 2006

Vistaverde · 04/12/2014 14:36

Eau - I think you are probably right about the meaning of 'concrete'.

I suspect Vincent is distrustful of the police after all his dealings with them. I wonder also if he doesn't know the significance of what he saw?

lem73 · 04/12/2014 14:45

Laurence was very keen at the beginning to get involved wasn't she? But in present day she acts like she couldn't care less. It's a bit odd.
When that horrible man was talking to Tony and Emily he talked about cleaning up blood in the basement. To me that means not only is Ollie dead but it was a violent death yet they didn't really seem to react to this news. It seemed a bit strange.

funambulist · 04/12/2014 14:48

Vistaverde I agree with you about Vincent. I wonder if he saw someone in the area of the abduction who shouldn't have been there, or who everyone assumes was somewhere else when it happened?

Dancergirl · 04/12/2014 14:49

Sorry if this has already been answered, but why did the masked man let the cleaner bloke in wearing his mask?? I know the cleaner bloke is the man they gave the money to for information but was he involved before he entered the house?

funambulist · 04/12/2014 14:50

Eau Vincent wouldn't want to tell the police because when they thought he didn't have an alibi for the time Ollie went missing they thought he was involved. They only let him go when a (false) alibi was provided.

diddl · 04/12/2014 14:50

So when Sieg was talking about what happened when he cleaned the house, he was talking as if it was a criminal gang that wanted it cleaning?

lem73 · 04/12/2014 14:53

Yes he was well aware who he was cleaning for.

diddl · 04/12/2014 14:54

""Malik Suri has been sitting on the evidence since 2006"

He was given something by Ziane, wasn't he?

But it was a different envelope that Ziane was trying to get from Baptiste, so what happened to that?

Only in 2014 was it discovered that Ziane withheld evidence? (which I assume Malik still has)

funambulist · 04/12/2014 15:06

diddl

There are two envelopes.

Envelope 1 has whatever Ziane found in the drain when the abduction area was searched. He gave it to Malik for 24 hours but Malik never returned it.

Envelope 2 has evidence of Ziane's involvement in an unsolved case in Morocco, Charmartain. Malik (I assume) left it at the police station to be picked up by Baptiste. Ziane attacked Baptiste to try and get the envelope but was thwarted when Mark came to Baptiste's help.

Only Ziane and Malik knew about envelope 1, but Karl saw Ziane pick the evidence out of the drain and has just (in 2014) told Tony and Baptiste about it. Baptiste knew that there hadn't been any evidence gathered from the scene so knew Ziane hadn't submitted it. Presumably they are on their way to question Ziane about this and he will tell them that Malik still has it.

ArsenicSoup · 04/12/2014 15:11

So the item of evidence from the drain could be something small of Vincent's? Which is why Malik has doggedly pursued him all these years? And it is something Vincent saw (when he wasn't supposedly near the pool, but was) that will crack the case?

And that then does take us back to the events/appearances of the first episodes when Ian provided the false alibi for Vincent, who was promising to say nothing about what he'd seen.

So what small thing of Vincent's could it be, in that scenario?

AuntieStella · 04/12/2014 15:14

Do we actually know the contents of envelope 2?

Ziane certainly believed it could be something totally damning, and serious enough that he could not risk it being read by Baptiste. But he could not know that the envelope contained what he feared most, and would anyone put it past journo to try to scare Ziane back into line?

We also do not know that it was the 2006 attack that put him in prison from then to 2014.

diddl · 04/12/2014 15:16

"There are two envelopes."

Yes, I know.

I didn't realise that we knew what was in the 2nd envelope.

ArsenicSoup · 04/12/2014 15:18

Yes Stella , I've been assuming that it was the contents of the envelope that put him in prison, but I suppose it is just assumption. Maybe both? The attack on Baptiste and the crimes outlined in the envelope?

funambulist · 04/12/2014 15:21

Actually we don't, but Malik has been constantly threatening to disclose Ziane's involvement in Charmartain if Ziane stopped feeding him information. I think that Ziane wanted to bring it to an end. A journalist dropped an envelope off at the station so I think that those are the most likely contents.

Vistaverde · 04/12/2014 15:23

Arsenic Soup - I hadn't thought that the item found in the drain was Vincent's but it would make sense as to how Malik realised his alibi was false.

funambulist · 04/12/2014 15:23

I can't remember it very well but doesn't Malik visit Ziane in prison at one stage and Ziane declines to co-operate because Malik is the reason he is in there. I would assume that Malik no longer has any hold over Ziane as I don't think he was able to force him to co-operate. That suggests that whatever Malik was using to blackmail him has now been revealed and Ziane is paying the consequences.

funambulist · 04/12/2014 15:25

Malik keeps saying "I know what happened to Oliver Hughes", which I don't understand. Surely if he does he should go to the police? It doesn't stop him writing a book as well.

Vistaverde · 04/12/2014 15:25

Can anybody remember the conversation between Malik and Ziane in prison?

diddl · 04/12/2014 15:26

Do we know what Ziane's involvement in Charmataines was?

Malik said something about a kidnapping that his father had been looking into?

Vistaverde · 04/12/2014 15:26

Great minds funambulist
