Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

It wouldn't surprise me if Tony's "work" was a bit dodgy.

Indianashopgirl · 04/12/2014 19:48

I've got to get my life back shortly. I'm allowing myself a day of reading/ posting as I've only just discovered this thread!

Charmantaines is a person. Unless it's a code word for an operation?
The name appeared in a text on Ziane's phone in episode 1
I was under the impression that he was a person who went missing and Malik's father had been involved either as a journalist or a detective. Ziane was seen on TV by Malik in connection to that case. Don't think they solved the case.

Ian was def killed and body weighed down with bricks and disposed in the sea

Amazed no blood or fingerprints found on boat - wouodnt they use those purple lights that spot blood?

So baptiste covered up the shirt as Ian was a bad man and his daughter on drugs

Would his knee be that smashed/damaged from car door?

ÂŁ15k for a bit of spilt blood on the floor

Why didn't he come forward years ago

Did romance start after plo rescued her from
Bridge ?

Tbh quite a boring episode I thought - not much found out / bet the thread will be more thrilling :)

RabbitsarenotHares · 04/12/2014 22:41

Had a thought, and if it's true I can see it annoying some people:

Ian provided an alibi for Vincent after Vincent became the chief suspect, right? What if he was killing two birds with one stone? Because now not only does Vincent have an alibi, but so too do his supposed alibis. Perhaps it was they who were really in need of one.

Dancergirl · 04/12/2014 23:06

Just rewatching episode 3.

Who is Alains brother?

Who is Vincent Bourg looking at on his laptop?

SunshineandGin · 05/12/2014 00:47

Maybe I've missed it but the man who was called in to clean, (seig?) when they met him to ask questions he talked as though all he had to do with it was cleaning the basement. If that's the case then why was he watching the search at the pool from his van? Or was that someone different.

Loving this thread by the way!

ILovedYouYesterday · 05/12/2014 01:58

It was him watching from his van at the pool. After he cleaned the basement, he was asked by the gang to go and clear up at the pool (what he was to clear up, I don't know) but, when he got there, the police were already there so he stayed in his van at a distance and that's when he saw Ziane taking the evidence out of the drain.

SunshineandGin · 05/12/2014 05:47

Thank you must have missed him saying that.

Can't wait for next weeks.

Wellthatsit · 05/12/2014 08:00

Another theory: maybe Ollie wandered off at the pool (Tony's idea that he o ly lost track of him for a second is probably inaccurate) and stumbled upon the gang committing a different crime, thereby becoming an accidental witness and so they had to do something with him to keep him quiet.

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 08:09

Wellthatsit - good theory. And Tony need only have let go of his hand whilst actually getting the drinks. Ollie was small in a crowded bar of jumping, cheering, tipsy adults. Maybe he decided to go and sit at the outside table where any had left his bag. And then wandered a bit from there.

Indianashopgirl · 05/12/2014 08:46

Agree that Tony's version of events probably has flaws.
Re-watched episode1 - amazing what you forget/ want to believe. Malik and Ziane only met for the first time. I thought they may have history.
I don't think Emily would have chased after James that way if she had been seeing Mark before this holiday.
The FIL's comments about someone bearing a grudge or wanting revenge?
"What we did" not sure that was to do with paying off whatsisname in the hospice. He would have had to agree to that out of court settlement.

woodlysmum · 05/12/2014 09:12

Here is my new theory.
Sylvie is helping Tony to piece it all together.
She knew Alain was a paedo ("the drinking made him 'sick'") and despises Georges as he abused their daughter (Monique). (Nb she prob knew what was happening in 2006)
She posted the scarf on fb to get Tony back and probably did a fake 'hand in' book with the lady at the charity shop...She may have been involved with the picture and releasing of the video.
She tied luring Tony back for when Georges is running for reelection and the lifting of the embargo. She wants Georges to go down and in A BIG WAY. It would be huge if he was exposed during his re-election campaign...

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 09:32

I need to re watch lots of episodes!

We haven't seen much of Sylvie in 2014? I was thinking that she is one of the people who saw Ollie before the abduction, and so might have a more vivid impression of the scarf than those who saw it only on the Missing poster.

The photo could be random, or if she's seen that scarf in the crowd, she could have positioned her friend so she could get a nice clear set of photos and post one, hoping Tony would see it and bite.

Thinking about this, I'm now noticing how many women no longer have their husbands (death, divorce, separation through work) - another sense of The Missing.

Indianashopgirl · 05/12/2014 10:06

Yes lots of touches like that AuntieStella. The fact there's flaws in everyone or good & bad. Lots of imagery of water.

Today's musings:- when Vincent was 'talking' to Malik in last episode, their mouths weren't moving. It was like they were just thinking their comments.

What's the significance of that?

woodlysmum · 05/12/2014 10:07

The scarf seems 'staged' in the pictures...as you can see the initials perfectly. Normally someone would just throw a scarf on...
Also its a bit convenient that they managed to get hold of the family so easily...

Whoreandpeace · 05/12/2014 10:08

Marking place - thread so long, but addictive!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 05/12/2014 10:12

I've just rewatched both the Starz trailers. I realise I have absolutely no idea how it's going to end. Confused Fab thread, we're going to need a new one Smile

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 10:12

In episode 3, Emily says to mark in 2014, 'we don't want a repeat of 2009'. Anyone know what that's about?

AuntieStella · 05/12/2014 10:16

Dancergirl not yet. The 2006 timeline narrative will need to leap ahead to cover that.

I hope the ending isn't rushed, as there is so much that needs to be explained, and only 2 episodes to fit it into.

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 10:35

Anyone else love the theme music, it's really haunting..? Was it specially written for the series?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 05/12/2014 10:59

Been lurking on the thread for a while and loving the missing.

I'm wondering if Baptiste's (sorry can't spell) drug addicted daughter is involved. Baptiste said she got mixed up in much worse when she went to prison.

I'm wondering if Baptiste knows or suspects involvement.

CrapBag · 05/12/2014 11:01

dancergirl I thought the repeat of 2009 was Tony was back in France thinking he had found something, called Emily who went over only for it to be nothing. I'm sure she says something like she can't keep doing this when she goes over after that meeting hall incident and refers to 2009.

CrapBag · 05/12/2014 11:03

I wondered about that with Baptistes daughter too. But then would he be so involved with the search? He clearly regretted getting her sent to prison.

Dancergirl · 05/12/2014 11:06

I'm guessing there will be lots of red herrings, all these connections keep us on our toes!
