I have just googled and found another thread to support my vague theory about Alain and Silvie. The person in the thread makes a good point- when Tony is arrested and Silvie tells Alain "we have to call your brother" -could the brother be the police chief/judge/mayor? Apparently they have the same surname?? Another else notice this?

Yes, the surname thing was mentioned in the first thread. I think it's very likely that the police chief is Alain's brother and that he's corrupt. I wonder how much the police chief knows, whether he is also a paedophile or whether he's just being paid off or perhaps blackmailed in some way. And I wonder how much Alain knows if the police chief (Georges?) is corrupt.

Yes, Trunchball spotted that at page 30 on the previous thread.

I may be clutching at straws (and obsessed) but I just noticed on IMDB that Georges (police chief bloke who I thought was mayor) has the same surname as Alain and Sylvie (Eden hoteliers IIRC) - Deloix. Wasn't Alain only in it for a fleeting glimpse in the first episode? IMDB has him down as appearing in three episodes. I wonder if this has any relevance? Is IMDB generally accurate?

The poster on other thread also claims Alain was in the bar when Tony and Baptise had their meeting in 2014??

I've been thinking about Tony's job - we know from first episode that it was a demanding job, Julian described Tony a man under a lot of pressure from his job. In episode 2 (yes watched bits again) Tony speaks with someone from work and tells Emily that they've agreed for the fully paid leave but then Emily's reaction is very strange - she replies: 'I'm sorry, I'm very sorry....' Not sure why would she be sorry that Tony got leave from work??

Loving all these theories! Wasn't it a call from Tony's work which initially caused him to stop the car, which then wouldn't restart?

Also the police officer is on holiday with his son when he volunteers to assist with the case. So then he sends his son off in a taxi with some bloke (and grey haired too! ;) it all looks like he is too keen to be involved. Surely police could had sent someone else by Eurostar

True, in real life there is no way they would take someone from their family holiday, I think in most circumstances a liaison officer would be sent from the family's home constabulary. Also they would send more than one. He was there intentionally.

Can't remember where I saw it (not MN), but someone was questioning whether Mark really is in the Police. Apparently when he first joined the enquirey he had to apologise for his official papers to come from London, and then there was the fact he lied to Emily about his promotion.

I'm not convinced he wasn't actually a policeman, but I do wonder if he was ever officially assigned to the case...

Rabbits he also asked Baptiste about the statistics regarding the chances of finding Ollie alive, I would have expected him to know these things.

Anyhow he is dodgy: to keen to get involved, not very useful as liaison officer just getting involved with investigation but not really supporting family and eventually forms relationship with Emily. I'm not impressed with him controlling her phone neither.
His son seems a bit unusually sheepish too

Well I haven't a clue what's going on. So bloody confusing! I get that a little boy has gone missing. I get that the French detective has a limp in some scenes and not in others. I get that Tony has a temper, and that his wife is with the English policeman from the investigation. I get the picture in the cellar. I get there's a paedophile in the frame who is undergoing chemical castration (?).

But I don't get the ex-addict girl, now a teacher, and why her neck was slashed. And what's her brother got to do with it? And if Tony killed Ian in a fit of rage, what's he doing on a yacht with his wife? Is he dead or what?

And this is only episode 5 ffs.

I agree with reem1 that Mark is too keen to be involved.

He doesn't speak any French, which would seem to be a basic requirement for a police officer liaising between French police and an English speaking couple. Luckily for Mark, Baptiste, Laurence, and Vincent all speak English fluently and kindly translate for him whenever he doesn't know what is going on.

Mark doesn't seem to get on brilliantly with Tony or Emily either. He helps Baptiste track down the information about Tony's assault of Greg. Tony gives Mark a really dirty look when Baptiste says that he wouldn't have been able to track it down without Mark's kind help. In the same episode Emily shouts at Mark to "Do your bloody job." when Mark is being questioned and he won't tell her what is going on. At another point Mark tells Tony and Emily that there is a Paris lead, but then won't give them any more information.

Is it significant that Mark is one of the few people who know that Baptiste and the undercover policeman are going to meet up to discuss things after the failed raid on the warehouse? Undercover policeman is, of course, murdered just before the meeting.

Ex-addict girl, Rini, was going out with the undercover policeman, Leon, who had infiltrated the Romanian gang. Rini's brother, Martin, is also a gang member. in 2006 Baptiste asks her to find out from Martin, whether the gang had anything to do with Ollie's disappearance. Rini gets her neck slashed. The person who did it gets away but the police question Martin,

In 2014 there is evidence that the leader of the Romanian gang was involved in Ollie's disappearance. Rini approaches Martin again and finds out the Gang leader's current alias and location (Brussels).

Tony killed 1an in 2006. Ian's wife has dementia (or similar) and thinks that Ian is still alive and they are both on a cruise.
