Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

I'm not sure about French policewoman.

LineRunner · 27/11/2014 18:25

Laurence is female French police agent who speaks English.

Man who looks like Carl Seig was at the pool, walking past, looking at Ollie and Tony. Just a quick shot.

OttiliaVonBCup · 27/11/2014 18:26

Or you can read the script for Ep1.

Thinking about concrete ( which suggests a grave) perhaps they will find some of the children on the tapes rather than ollie. Maybe they do find Ian's body and the tapes, so dig up his holiday home.
The mayor mentioned that the town had lost tourism so that would make sense.

RabbitsarenotHares · 27/11/2014 19:06

Had a thought whilst cooking dinner:

Is Alan a member of the Paedophile ring? Is that the reason he was in France, and so keen to get involved with the investigation? Could be the reason he had his son with him too (perhaps Ian isn't the only person to abuse his own child).

Clip from next week's episode

EauRouge · 27/11/2014 19:23

Rabbits, do you mean Mark? Mark is the copper/liaison fella. Alain is the hotelier. Good theory though, there's definitely something off about Mark. Could he be undercover maybe, trying to bust the paedophile ring but getting involved with Olleh's disappearance to find out if they're connected?

This thread is brilliant.

Next week's preview

RabbitsarenotHares · 27/11/2014 19:27

Eau yep, sorry, I meant Mark.

Surely if he was undercover his son would be nowhere near him? And there' she fact he lost his job too. I don't believe what he told Emily.

MsRyanGosling · 27/11/2014 19:29

That gives nothing away Angry

MsRyanGosling · 27/11/2014 19:30

I meant the BBC clip. This thread moves too fast!

LineRunner · 27/11/2014 19:31

What? Does it or is it harmless? I can't cope with spoilers to an almost pathological degree.

MsRyanGosling · 27/11/2014 19:31

Surely as well if he was undercover he'd at least speak good French?

MsRyanGosling · 27/11/2014 19:32

Completely harmless IMO Smile

LineRunner · 27/11/2014 19:33

Yes, although he would pretend he couldn't.

reem1 · 27/11/2014 19:59

I don't think it was a random abduction, Ollie was with his father who was holding his hand in the bar, abductor would need to be very close waiting for the moment when Tony lets go of the hand. Very risky too as Tony could turn, notice any moment. Also abductor would have to make Ollie walk with him. Ollie was what, about 6 yrs old? even if the screaming would be muted by the shouting crowd, Ollie would still probably resist, try to push away. Abductor would take a big risk going into the crowd.

However if Ollie knew his abductor, he possibly lets go of Tony's hand to move closer to abductor, abductor could easily lure him out of the crowd and walk away without problem. And if Tony notices anything, the abductor can make up a story as coming to meet them both etc.

That would make Emily a suspect or perhaps Sylvie- hotel owner as she was fairly friendly with Ollie and would have known that they went swimming (ollie went back to the hotel to get his trunks). It makes me also think that the pedophile ring could be this town's dirty secret - a few peoples involved and some covering up for the family members.

funambulist · 27/11/2014 20:01

Good point reem1. I wonder if the final episode will show Ollie's abduction and how it happened.

werenotreallyhere · 27/11/2014 20:07

Marking place Wink

forago · 27/11/2014 20:21

is monique french artis shag in paris?

excellent summary there funabulist

Pinkje · 27/11/2014 20:23

You know what I found odd in episode 1? Why was Emily sitting in the back seat next to Olly when the broke down? Why not in the front navigating.

LineRunner · 27/11/2014 20:26

The journalist Malik's book cover, shown in ep 1, said something like, 'Gone: the ugly truth about the disappearance of Oliver Hughes'. [My emphasis]

Interesting choice of words - the ugly truth.

LineRunner · 27/11/2014 20:27

Pinkje, to stop him getting bored, probably?
