Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

Reem that really makes a lot of sense.

Reem that really makes a lot of sense.

chiliplant · 27/11/2014 20:37

I was annoyed (and shouting at the screen) when he didn't take the mobile of him after he npbeat him up by the lake!

Chefpepperjack · 27/11/2014 21:02

There was some newly laid concrete at Ian's holiday home.
I noticed cos I wanted Tony to look there.

Very good point Reem- surely someone would have noticed Olly kicking up a fuss? No matter how busy it was. That would suggest he knew his abductor. My guess is Sylvie tempting him with his scarf.

LineRunner · 27/11/2014 21:05

Yes, someone waving that scarf as though Ollie had dropped it, and the other person had found it.

I think it was taken out of Ollie's bag while they were swimming - the previous scene showed them underwater, oblivious to poolside.

Floundering · 27/11/2014 21:18

This might help a few of us

Ohmygrood · 27/11/2014 21:55

Yes there were concrete mixers at the holiday home.

I agree the theory of Ollie going with someone he knew seems more likely than his being snatched from under Tony's nose. He let go of his hand for seconds.

SomethingFunny · 27/11/2014 21:59

Unless Tony gets rid of Ian under the concrete?

SomethingFunny · 27/11/2014 22:01

I like the waving scarf theory.

I am certain that the scarf and lack of wearing at point of abduction is a crucial point.

ClapAlongIfYouLike · 27/11/2014 22:52

Going with someone he knew, yes. Or perhaps running off with anther child (James?)?

funambulist · 27/11/2014 22:57

Ollie is very young. Having lost sight of his father, he might go with someone who told him that his mum/dad was waiting for him round the corner...

LauraPashley · 27/11/2014 23:30

This thread is more confusing than the program Grin

Interesting about his kidnapper being known to him - could the writers be giving us all this info re paedophile rings etc just as a (very disturbing) massive red herring? When actually he has been taken by a family member or similar?
Too much to think about!
And "concrete"...bleee...hopefully that only refers to where Ian's body ends up!

Flibbertyjibbet · 27/11/2014 23:50

Just watched eps 1 and 2 again. JourNo says to tony and Emily about mark 'he isn't here to help you, he's here to manage you'.
Also seveal scenes of Emily clenching her hands so maybe that's how she let's her emotions show.

missnatalie70 · 28/11/2014 00:07

Fab thread!

Pixel · 28/11/2014 00:12

I was annoyed (and shouting at the screen) when he didn't take the mobile of him after he npbeat him up by the lake!

I just came on here to say exactly the same thing (just caught up with episode) but you beat me to it!
As soon as he saw the number on the phone I thought "aha, now he has some evidence" but instead of leaving with it he beats Vincent up and then leaves the phone behind. He doesn't help himself does he.

ArsenicSoup · 28/11/2014 01:53

The scarf is key, isn't it?

Also, a bit OT, but can anyone confirm for me that the actress playing Emily is suffering from filler-induced 'trout pout'? Her upper lip is so distracting.

ArsenicSoup · 28/11/2014 02:11

Just re-watching episode one.

" We were on holiday nearby when your son went missing, so I volunteered. I'm the English Police liaison officer for your case."

Nearby. Volunteered.

Hmm
LineRunner · 28/11/2014 07:30

Also, Arsenic, if that were true and he was walking with his son and heard a woman screaming 'Ollie' at the top if her voice running towards him, he would hardly have just carried on walking until she physically grabbed hold of the boy... Or was that scene really that clunky?

SomethingFunny · 28/11/2014 07:54

Funbulist- but he was gone so quickly. One minute holding Dads hand, the next minute he has vanished and Tony starts to look for him immediately and he has gone. That seems too quick to be a child wandering around looking for Dad and being persuaded to go by someone else who is being opportunistic. It was so quick it seems to me like he was snatched quickly.

However, I have thought that a child disappeared quickly in a real life case when it was an opportunistic luring, so I could well be wrong about a tv show!

ArsenicSoup · 28/11/2014 07:58

True Line.

The biggest 'clunk' by far is the second hand shop owner who sentimentally sends postcards to the previous owner of every item she sells and is somehow still in business/ hasn't gone mad. So contrived (just to provide a way for them to trace scarf to house).

But I think I can forgive the writers for all of it. Most gripping series for ages.

LineRunner · 28/11/2014 08:47

And a gripping thread!

Trunchbull · 28/11/2014 10:02

We have just set off for a weekend away, how will I cope without being able to check things in previous episodes on the Sky Planner? I guess once I get there I can use iPlayer, but Ep1 is gone now. I have never been like this over a TV show. I'll need therapy if the ending turns out to be crap.

LineRunner · 28/11/2014 10:10

Turnbull, I'm going to watch ep 2 again today. If you watch it on iPlayer, we can compare notes. Grin

I know what you mean about being invested in a decent ending.

LineRunner · 28/11/2014 10:10

Sorry, your name got autocorrected there!

Trunchbull · 28/11/2014 10:35

S'alright! I knew who you meant!

I have watched Ep2 a few times so am pretty familiar with it if you want to compare notes.

Something which is bugging me, when Tony duffed up Vincent, and got arrested and put in the cell, Ian came in, etc - then next thing Tony is just released, with no signs of being charged, and is able to go to Ian's house, without any kind of surveillance, and presumably kill Ian. He has form for violence, is clearly deeply distressed and a loose cannon. Why are they not keeping an eye on him, and why are there no repercussions for his violence? Why is he not found out for murdering Ian and in jail in the present day? We know VB has been back to jail, and Ziane is "rotting in jail".

Two instances of fractured ankles, Tony has been MIA on a few occasions when needed by Baptiste. I'm even noticing things like Emily's hair now is exactly the same as Laurence's hair in 2006. Ollie/ Molly similar names, of course. Ollie and James the same age and similar looks.

We already know the programme contains scenes of altered reality. Some of Tony and Emily's scenes seem almost dream like - are we looking at some imagined realities here? Or multiple personalities? Emily seems to only ever lose control in bathrooms which is strange. And they are both very fond of hand wringing - many lingering shots on this. I don't know. Some of it seems so odd.
