The scene with his mum at the pool, I mean

funambulist · 26/11/2014 19:10

Vincent says repeatedly that although he has viewed child abuse images he hasn't taken it further. I think that Ian abused Vincent first and then either started abusing Molly or seemed about to allow his friends to.

Vincent found out and Ian said he would kill Mary, Vincent's mother if Vincent said anything.

Molly was either killed by mistake by Ian or his friends or was helped to escape by Vincent and is now Monique.

Monique deals with her childhood trauma through art. Vincent has been more damaged and is tempted to, or worried about replicating Ian's abuse.

Monique is attracted to Tony because the sadness and despair so evident on his face is something that she can relate to.

Him wearing the scarf when he disappeared....does that suggest that the person who took him knew him/ cared about him enough to get him to put it on before leading him off. Or else they grabbed it from his bag to use as a blindfold/gag.

Whatever, who the heck takes a woolly scarf on a summer holiday? !

funambulist · 26/11/2014 19:14

I think that the scarf is a cotton one and as it was specially made for Ollie and had his initials on maybe it was a sort of comfort object. Small children often get attached to particular clothes or objects. One of my sons went through a phase of always wearing a particular hat. Even in bed!

reem1 · 26/11/2014 19:18

Love all the theories.... I have a feeling that Molly might have been Vincent's mother. Molly's mother was Mary and she could have the same name as her mother so Mary too but called by everyone as Molly.... On Vincent's police papers says mother's name Mary. That would make Ian Vincent's grandfather- Ian was abused by his grandfather and was himself abusing Vincent. The family history repeats itself. Molly lives somewhere far from Ian and Vincent tries to protect her that's why he is terrified when Ian threatens to visit his mother. He also made her a promise to expose Ian's true persona. Not sure how it all links to Ollie though!
Unless Molly is a lost soul who kidnaps Ollie to perhaps in her mind save him from his father as she didn't manage to save her own son. Ian liked football and perhaps that night when Molly saw Ollie with Tony and football mad crowd her memory took her into a dark place...... Molly is probably one of ladies (around 40 years old) living in the town.

reem1 · 26/11/2014 19:35

Tony seems to struggle with his temper, angry outburst and perhaps he hurt Ollie which caused death. One thing that bothered me in the first episode was that when Tony and Ollie were coming out of the pool there were still few people in the pool and seemed fairly bright but by the time they got changed and left, the pool was deserted and it seemed like an evening. I don't think anyone actually saw Ollie in the bar. There might be a darker side to Tony. Is he really trying to find Ollie.......

LineRunner · 26/11/2014 19:38

When Monique stared at Tony, she looked like she recognised him. Which she could have done, from the publicity years before.

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 19:44

Maybe this has been discussed and I've missed it but wasn't that Greg from the hospice in the hospital room last night, is he married to Mark's ex?

LineRunner · 26/11/2014 19:52

Fallon, I didn't notice that. Was he the bloke standing up?

BOFster · 26/11/2014 20:17

Why would Molly be forty? I thought they said she had disappeared aged eight, about eight years previously. So that would put her in her twenties now.

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 20:28

Linerunner yes he was standing by the radiator in the room with an other boy about the same age as James.

reem1 · 26/11/2014 20:36

Oh I didn't realise that Molly was about eight when she disappeared 8 years before Ollie. Yes she would be around twenty then. Vincent and Molly are clues to what happened to Ollie I think

LauraPashley · 26/11/2014 20:38

I think....

Vincent is the son of Mary (Garrett, before she was garret) and a French man. Ian got involved somehow, maybe abused Vincent, and then he and Mary got married and had Molly.

I think that all that James nesbitt and his father in law are guilty of is getting him off the hook for beating up hospice guy? Just to show he has a violent side?

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 20:39

After all this the ending had better be good!

I want to see Baptiste over here after on chat shows etc. Him speaking English in his wonderful accent and that lovely deep voice.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 20:40

Wondering if my nerves will stand me watching last night's episode again....

The picture of Molly when she's about 7 or 8 is from the late 70's/ early 80's from the look of it.
But he said the police said she ran away and didn't pursue it much, which would mean she would have to have been mid-teens. Unless of course that was a lie.

LineRunner · 26/11/2014 20:46

Yes, the mysteriously convenient Mark. What if he weren't 'on holiday' at all in 2006 but undercover?

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 20:48

I don't think I can wait another three weeks to find out, it's like who shot JR all over again Grin.

EmilyGilmore · 26/11/2014 20:50

Maybe this has been discussed and I've missed it but wasn't that Greg from the hospice in the hospital room last night, is he married to Mark's ex?

No, it was a different man. He was with a boy, presumably a friend of the injured boy. They must have brought him to the hospital.

EmilyGilmore · 26/11/2014 20:52

FallonColby love your name btw, can you imagine if MN had been going back in the Dynasty days? We'd have had a field day over the aliens plot-line Grin

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 21:04

That episode is etched in my brain I think EmilyGilmore, I can still see the tumbleweed rolling across the road as the spaceship sailed up into the sky...It was almost as good as Bobby Ewing's shower scene.

susiedaisy · 26/11/2014 21:15

I was under the impression Molly disappeared/was killed in the 70's or 80's years ago. Her picture looks very dated and Ian and his wife are/were in their late sixties IMO making them too old to be parents of a teenager.

NannyHat · 26/11/2014 21:15

This is the photo from garretts wife's house

NannyHat · 26/11/2014 21:16

Oops hope this works
