I think the main discussion is on thread 2 now. A fair few pages in now. Xmas Smile

I do think JN is very good and whilst Emily does seem wooden I do agree that she appears like that because she is suppressing her emotions to try and get on with her life but occasionally goes off to breakdown in private. I think she does that hand thing she was doing after she thought James called her mum to try and suppress her feelings/emotions.

I have been surprised at how many people are saying he's amazing, I mean I think he's good in it but not too that level!! Mind you I don't think the wife is wooden either - I had them impression that this was the character's emotional hold back!!!

Think it's all relative. He's the best of a rather wooden bunch, imho!

I'm the only one who doesn't think that JN is fab in it, aren't I?

Am very muddled but I am enjoying it and really enjoying the slow pace tbh.

I thought when Ian said 'a mistake' he meant that HAVING Molly in the first place had been a mistake.

Agree, Itsfab. Too much flipping to & fro. So many weak characters. Then yes, Nesbitt v intense and excellent just about keeping it going. Could have been so much better.

I was just talking about me, Bit, but clearly other people are finding it difficult to work out parts of the drama.

Erm, I can make head and tail of it itsfab!

Only read up to Tuesday night at 22:00.

I don't think it is clever when the viewer can't make head nor tail over what is happening.

Just do it in chronological order, stop the unnecessary flash forward and back. Spoils the potential of a really good drama.

I think James Nesbitt is great but everyone else is crap, especially his ex wife.

Funambulist. Thank you. I am not losing the plot then (so to speak). So why is it different? Continuity mistake? If so, does that mean it's a relevant detail?

Can't believe I am sitting in hairdressers following and commenting on this thread. I am not a huge MNer usually!

Hope no one minds, I started a new thread so it can be linked to before this one fills up.

New thread here.

the bloke with white hair in the van is the bloke they are looking for that they now know is in Belgium - the head of the Romanian gang

I just watched bits of episode 3 again to try and find the document with Vincent Bourg's details on that Trunchball spotted.

I don't know how to link to the screenshot of the relevant scene but Trunchball I'm sure that you'll be pleased to know that the episode 3 document has Pierre Bourg born in Lille and Vincent's mother, Mary Scotts, born in Dartford. It gives Vincent's profession as Ouvrier (worker).

It is at 44 minutes into episode 3 if anyone wants to have a look.

Other bits of information I picked up were:

Tony assaulted Greg in February 2000

Tony made payments to Greg in February 2000

Greg admitted to Tony that he had kissed Emily

Ollie's fracture occurred in September 2004 when he was almost 3 years old.

Ollie was 5 years old when he vanished in 2006.

Tony does not have an alibi for the 9 minutes between 10.16 and 10.25 on the evening Ollie vanished.

In 2006 Julien Baptiste has two pictures on his desk. One is of a little girl with straight red/blonde hair aged about 2. One seems to be of an older boy.

Things we need to find out (apart from the obvious what happened to Ollie):

  1. How Baptiste hurt his leg

  2. what happened in 2009 (other abduction?)

  3. How Emily and Mark get together

I think Mary may be his mother as it was her on the laptop

I just watched ep 1 again. It could be that the white haired older bloke who briefly watched them swimming took the yellow scarf out of Ollie's bag, which would be at the side of the pool, and used it to lure Ollie away.

Ollie's not wearing it after swimming and it's not seen in the hotel room.

I wonder what Tony's job is, we know Emily is a teacher but there's not even a hint about what he did in 2006.

Good point Nancy I had never thought of that, I guess that's why he said something in the cafe about if only he could prove it.

I feel like rewatching now too, something I never do. What has mumsnet done to me?

Report
Nancy66 · 27/11/2014 13:38

Fallon. Yes, I think the wife covers up or lies for Tony about killing Ian.
I reckon the journalist is listening in to their voicemails - this is 2006

SomethingFunny · 27/11/2014 13:37

Funambulist- probably!! Maybe someone should catch up on episode 2, we might have missed something!!
