Anyone watching , so far quite tense especially the music

OP posts:

funambulist surely of all the injuries he could have picked up why did the writers' choose the same one as Ollie had. Maybe it is just a coincidence and I am reading too much into it but if you have previously already had an ankle injury is it not the case you are more susceptible to another ? Now I am wavering between thinking that James is actually Ollie or that James is really Emily's biological son. Also realise I am most probably alone in this theory and appear mad as a hatter!

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 12:47

DP has been forbidden to delete any episodes from the Sky Planner and I am fast forwarding through to bits where my attention may have previously wandered, or become more relevant as series progresses. What can I say, I am job hunting/ bored/ it's raining/ child at school/ trying to occupy myself until next Tuesday's episode rolls round!

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:53

I have a new, highly unlikely, theory.

Greg and Emily have an affair. Ollie is conceived as a result. Tony finds out about the affair (but maybe doesn't know that Ollie isn't his son). Tony beats up Greg. Tony and his father-in-law ensure that Tony escapes justice. (Do we know how they did this?)

Greg in revenge, but also to get his son back, arranges for Ollie to be kidnapped. Ollie is safe (how?) with Greg.

Everything else is a red herring.

James can't be Ollie. Emily, James' mum, grandparents etc would realise.

EmilyGilmore · 26/11/2014 12:53

I don't think it will be anything as convoluted as a child swap (with mothers approval) because the would make everything else we've watched redundant and pointless.

EmilyGilmore · 26/11/2014 12:57

But I still can't work out how they are all connected.

Garage owner, hotel owner, police chief, Ian and Bourg - that all fits together. But Baptiste's daughter, Rini and hospice guy, I can't work them in.

That said, remember Broadchurch? In the end most of it was irrelevant.

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 12:59

Funambulist, there was an amount of money paid to Greg from Tony in 2000. Paid him off? Timeline would fit for Greg to be Ollie's father...

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 12:59

fumbalust in the scene in the hospital where Emily's father is dying James comes into the room to visit him and Emily's grandfather immediately recognises him as Ollie but the family dismiss him as he is ill. I think he really did believe it was Ollie.

mewkins · 26/11/2014 13:00

Still traumatised by last night's episode. It has to be something to do with greg and /or Mark doesn't it??? I wonder if Vince (?)may end up helping to solve the mystery as some kind of retribution... then again we may not see any more of him in the last three episodes.

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 13:03

emily I guess they called it The Missing because it is about more than one missing person - the relevance of Ian and Molly is that they are also missing, Ian's story also leads the viewer to believe he must be responsible and Ollie must have been taken by a paedophile ring and then the twist will come at the end.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/11/2014 13:13

"Think we need a spin off series for Baptiste...... as a french police show we could call it 'Allo 'Allo 'Allo." Grin

AvonCallingBarksdale · 26/11/2014 13:15

No new theories to add, but I thought last night's episode was superb - amazing acting from Ken Stott in particular. So chilling and stomach-churning "He was beautiful, wasn't he" Angry
I think wooden mum is just very, very self-contained. That hand-wringing when James didn't mean "Mum" in regards to her, was, I thought, very sad. Just letting a bit of emotion out, but scared to let much out in case she can't stop IYSWIM.

BOFster · 26/11/2014 13:20

Monique surely has to be Molly? The ages do tally (she was 8? when she went missing, circa 1998), and it must be significant that their names are similar, and that she's an artist like Ian (sort of) was. The dark imagery she paints seems to be of strange sexualised adult/child hybrids.

BOFster · 26/11/2014 13:21

And yes, Allo, Allo, Allo is genius Grin

Ir1na · 26/11/2014 13:23

Wonder what Tony's done with the tapes? If he gives them to the police they'll find out that he's killed Mr Creepy. If he destroys them without looking he'd be putting a major dent in his own plan, and if he takes them with him to check then being caught with indecent material as well as the fact he's murdered someone is not going to look good...

funambulist · 26/11/2014 13:23

I think that the ending will provide some hope. (It's been very dark so far.) So that either Molly or Ollie or both will be shown to be alive.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 13:25

Maybe Monique/Molly will visit Mary at the end and she either won't realise it is Molly or she won't be believed if she does.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 13:29

Tony won't have done anything with the tapes cos when he gets back from picking wooden wife up from the eurostar, all will be gone along with Ian.
Tony can't go to the police as they didn't listen to him last time. And if he did? 'Well your honour, I smashed his skull into a pulp but when I got back to dispose of the body, it had gone'.
Ian disappears rather than face prosecution for what he did.

Ir1na · 26/11/2014 13:31

Possibly. He was definitely abusing her so maybe she was taken into care or something rather than actually missing (has anyone other than Creepy Ian actually said she disappeared?), and his wife doesn't remember.

Bakeoffcakes · 26/11/2014 13:32

Molly and Ollie- the similarities in the names of the two missing children is annoying me as I'm trying to find a connection but I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

diddl · 26/11/2014 13:35

In one ep, Tony's FIL said "do you think it's because of what we did"

What is he referring to?

The covering up of Tony beating Greg?

What might they have done that a thought would be that your son/gs had been kidnapped because of it?

An illegal adoption?

funambulist · 26/11/2014 13:37

Didn't Martin (Rini's brother) have a lovely house? His life of crime has clearly been very profitable.

SomethingFunny · 26/11/2014 13:37

Oh oh oh... I have just seen the first episode again. Ollie WAS NOT wearing the yellow scarf when he disappeared. At first I thought it was in the bag he was carrying, but then Tony finds the bag and the inflatable orca Ollie was carrying just outside the bar (didn't notice this the first time, but makes sense why he then started searching outside the bar). It is of course slightly possible that Ollie had it in his pocket, but that would be odd. So either someone made a massive mistake when the program was made OR Ollie didnt have the scarf, which leads you to ask why the massive scarf trail was laid and by who, why Tony doesn't realise Ollie wasn't wearing the scarf after swimming and why he never saw the scarf again. Someone has made a mistake or someone very connected with Ollie is lying...

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 13:39

Just noticed Tony looking at a police document in Ep3, Vincent Bourg. It says
Enfant de: Pierre Bourg - Lille 12/09/46
Et de: Mary Scotts - Dartford 07/11/44

Mrs Garrett is Mary too, isn't she?

BOFster · 26/11/2014 13:40

Ooooh, interesting!

Abra1d · 26/11/2014 13:40

Yes, I think so, Trunch.
