Yes but it seems Tony has a habit of lashing out and not thinking clearly...

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 11:39

Vincent will come home in his new peaceful statell of mind, find tony wandering round the square and tell him whodunit.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:40

I wonder if Ian's brother will be significant? If Ian has been declared dead, Molly is missing and Ian's wife, Mary, is in care home, Ian's brother will be dealing with probate.

forago · 26/11/2014 11:41

I don't think I'd be thinking clearly either if I'd just seen video footage of the man standing in front of me raping and murdering a child, apparently, even if my own child wasn't also missing at the time. Think I'd be doing a bit of lashing out too. I know it's not real, but I think it is realistic.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 11:42

People keep mentioning 2009. Wonder if that's when french policeman got jailed and we have yet to find out what for?

Think we need a spin off series for Baptiste...... as a french police show we could call it 'Allo 'Allo 'Allo.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:42

I think you could be right Flibbertyjibbet, Tony described Vincent as "terrified" of Ian. Now that he has just found out that Ian is dead he might be able to provide information.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 11:44

Eek Ian has a brother? I missed that.

Dp is getting pissed off with the Sunday evening ritual of re watching several episodes for things I've missed!

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 11:45

Funambulist- Vincent will point at wooden mums new man and say 'eeet was eeem'

Abra1d · 26/11/2014 12:01

Surely if you found all that incriminating evidence on the boat you'd grab it, barge past IG and take the camera and tapes straight to the police? Immediately? You wouldn't kill the suspect and prevent him from being questioned by the police and possibly revealing the whereabouts of other missing and murdered children? You'd possibly disable him and drag him along with you. IG doesn't look like a fit man: Tony could easily overpower him and tied him up somewhere if he couldn't take him to the police.

Tony is a prat.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:03

Flibbertyjibbet I think that Ian said that his grandfather abused him and his brother when they were children. I'm so convinced that every detail is important now that I'm trying to incorporate the brother into ever more elaborate theories.

Love your PLO theory. Now I feel like I have to rewatch the episode where Vincent was interviewed to see if he looked particularly nervous of Mark.

Mark, despite his lack of French, does seem to have a knack of picking up information. I think that he knew about Leon's phone call to Baptiste didn't he? Did he volunteer to be liaison officer so that he could effectively scupper the investigation? But then, if Georges is corrupt then that would scupper it too. The plot probably doesn't require multiple dodgy policemen of varying nationalities.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:06

Tony is a prat.

I like an earlier posters theory that Ian will leave to collect Emily and return to find Ian's body, boat and all the evidence gone.

He then won't be able to tell anyone about it as he'll implicate himself in a murder but Emily and Baptiste will know exactly what to think about Ian's mysterious disappearance.

2rebecca · 26/11/2014 12:07

Yes I did mean Amber BOFster. Very disappointing ending. I don't like "and then she woke up and it was all a dream" either. I got told off for producing endings like that to my stories when I was 11!
A good ending is really important to me. These series are gripping because they keep you wondering what happens next and how they resolve things. If nothing is resolved and the answer to "what happens next?" is "nothing much" I feel I've been wasting my time.
TV writers are sometimes a bit rubbish at them, especially if they decide there should be another series like The Fall or Lost.

EmilyGilmore · 26/11/2014 12:10

KLAXON KLAXON - I noticed something significant! When Tony was in the cell and Ian knocked to be let out - did anyone notice the police officer who let Ian out of the cell - i am convinced it was the white/grey haired man who was in the cleaning van. He gave Tony a sneery stare when he closed the cell door again.Somebody please watch that bit again and see if you agree with me!

Yes! I noticed this too and said the same to DH but totally forgot till now. The police force is completely corrupt.

FallonColby · 26/11/2014 12:15

Wasn't there something in episode 1 or 2 about Ollie having a fractured ankle and now James has a broken ankle. That scene in the hospital confirmed my thoughts that Frances O'Connor is actually playing the part quite well, in that the majority of the time she is quite cold, unemotional and controlled but very occasionally real emotion shines through. I remember Joanne Lees being vilified by the press for her somewhat cold behaviour when her boyfriend disappeared and the same has been said of Kate McCann.

Bakeoffcakes · 26/11/2014 12:18

Can anyone tell me why the Romanian gang are important? I realise the former drug addict teacher wanted info from her brother (who I presume is in this gang) but what info did she want from him?

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:18

Emily they do look similar. I'm confused about all the men with whitish hair (I don't have a great memory for faces). So far we've had:

Garage guy who tickles Ollie

Guy who watches Ollie and Tony at the swimming pool

Cleaning van guy

Gang leader guy

Police cell guy

Can anyone tell me which of them are potentially the same man?

Also, just remembered that we still haven't found what the policeman picked out of the drain after he smashed his phone in 2006 while they are searching for Ollie.

RubMyLamp · 26/11/2014 12:20

Fallon that'll be cos women are meant to be hormonal emotional messes. We ain't allowed to be stiff upper lippy etc.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:24

Fallon well remembered! You are right. Ollie did have a hospital admission for a fracture. The police asked Tony about it when they found out about him beating up Greg.

I guess that James wanting his real mum when he was injured may have brought it home to Emily that he isn't really an Ollie replacement.

In 2006 the Romanian Gang were important because Leon (undercover policeman) believed that they had something to do with getting Ollie away from the scene. Martin (Rini's brother) said that this was just a ruse to flush Leon out.

In 2014 the Romanian Gang are important because (I think) Gang chief is associated with the cleaning company whose van was videoed outside the property that Ollie was held at. Rini was trying to find out from Martin where Gang chief is now.

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 12:26

I've now spotted Alain in the first three episodes, accounting for his IMDB entries. Dammit! Still doesn't explain the same surname though, and Lovely Baptiste did discuss Georges with Tony in the presence of Sylvie.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:27

Lindy Chamberlain (dingo baby case) was also vilified by the press and ultimately imprisoned when she didn't behave as expected after the disappearance of her daughter. She too was felt to be too controlled. Years later evidence emerged to show that a dingo had indeed snatched the baby just as she described and she was freed.

Bakeoffcakes · 26/11/2014 12:29

Thanks funambulist Smile

Thecatisatwat · 26/11/2014 12:31

I agree with a pp who said that the boat/dream thing was a bit mean. Wasn't that scene subtitled 'present day' (or something similar) 'West Indies' implying that it was real and not a dream at all or was it just a post-production mistake?

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 12:31

Ah. Alain and Sylvie talking while Tony is being taken away for questioning in Ep3. Sylvie says You should call your brother. He can help." Alain replies "We have to let them do their jobs". I missed that.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 12:39

Trunchbull you're amazing. I remember that conversation now and wondering idly who his brother was. Are you rewatching every episode for clues?

The "Indian Ocean - present day" thing was a bit unfair, but when I rewatched that bit there are a few clues. The care home worker/crew member comes onto deck and asks if Mary minds if he cleans. He asks her how she is or whether she is comfortable and says something about wanting their customers to be happy. She doesn't reply. The whole scene makes far more sense once you realise that she is actually in a care home.

AttitcusFinchIsMyFather · 26/11/2014 12:40

Baptiste is lovely, especially rugged, present day Baptiste. Yum.
