Anyone watching , so far quite tense especially the music

OP posts:

The journalist said "I know what you and Tony did"- maybe Olly was adopted illegally or something, I don't think Tony is his father. I wonder is Olly, Mark's son's twin brother or something. Wonder what happened to Mark's son's mother, I noticed he wasn't wearing a wedding ring in 2006.

FallonColby · 20/11/2014 10:24

Something when she was looking for the toy fox in the hotel room in episode 3, I think she was looking for it to give it to him as she knew where he was being kept.

LatinForTelly · 20/11/2014 11:04

Sorry, I missed that. What did Tony sign with Ian then? Or at least, what did he think he was signing?

Baffled by all the subplots. I'm not good with names/faces at the best of times ... This thread is helping though, thanks.

emotionsecho · 20/11/2014 11:28

I thought I heard the man who told Vincent that Ian disappeared 8 years ago also said a skeleton had been found recently which was confirmed to be Ian's?

I took it that Ian disappeared shortly after Ollie, but wouldn't Vincent have known that?

Nancy66 · 20/11/2014 11:31

eh? what are you all watching? I don't recall any mention of a skeleton.

kimlo · 20/11/2014 11:38

There wasnt a skeleton, the man said he had recently been declared dead after being missing for years.

emotionsecho · 20/11/2014 11:39

I'm sure I heard the man talking to Vincent say Ian had been confirmed as dead, will try and check later.

NeitherHereOrThere · 20/11/2014 11:45

Think it was missing presumed dead - something to do with the fact that Ian has been missing for several years so they had to declare him as beiing dead.

noddyholder · 20/11/2014 11:47

After a certain number of years death is presumed but thats all

Nancy66 · 20/11/2014 11:50

This thread has become a bit like trying to watch a film with my nan

LatinForTelly · 20/11/2014 12:08

Grin Nancy

SolomanDaisy · 20/11/2014 13:14

Grin Definitely no skeleton mentioned! If the journalist thinks Tony and Emily did something to Ian, then maybe he assumes it was Ian who took Ollie and that's why he is saying he knows what happened.

funambulist · 20/11/2014 13:15

Loving this thread. It's keeping me occupied till the next episode.

I suppose Emily could have had something to do with the disappearance as we don't know what she was doing when Ollie went missing. I assumed that the whole family went back to the hotel after they'd finished their meal. Tony and Ollie packed up their swimming things and Emily waited at the hotel until they (or rather just Tony) came back.

But. I can't imagine any mother organising for her child to disappear when it would mean that she didn't see them for years. Emily can't really be seeing Ollie secretly, she is engaged to a policeman.

Also, she is shown to be genuinely upset. I have taken her rather frozen expressions to be her trying to suppress emotion and "move on". Though botox is probably more likely.

And I can't understand what motive she might have.

It's hard to engineer a car breakdown I would think. You would have to have had access to the car at the last stop (ferry, hotel, café?) and then tinker with it to make sure that it started properly but then wouldn't restart.

They stopped near Hotel Eden because Tony took a work call and the car wouldn't restart. So the place they stopped was fairly random. So, either someone had planned to kidnap Ollie and was following the family looking for an opportunity. Or, a person or people connected to the town was looking for a likely child to take and Ollie was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or, another child (Mark's?) was meant to be taken and Ollie was taken by mistake.

Could Mark's wife have tried to organise snatching her child and Ollie was taken by mistake? He looks like Ollie, is the same age, also with a British father, staying in the same town? From the back even Emily thought he was Ollie.

funambulist · 20/11/2014 13:22

In episode 4 Baptiste suggests that both he and Tony have done things that they regret for the best of reasons. Or something similar.

I wondered whether Baptiste's regret is to do with his drug addict daughter. We know from what he said to René that he tried several times to get his daughter clean, that she still comes to the house, but that her mother is frightened of her and doesn't want to see her. Or, is the thing he regrets something to do with 2006 events. Why he has a limp, why René wears a scarf round her throat.

He seemed to suggest that Tony had something specific to regret, which Tony denied. I wonder what that is? I don't think that Baptiste would still be helping Tony in such a pally and sympathetic way if he thought that Tony had bumped Ian off.

It's odd that no one is mentioning Ian in the present. Do Baptiste and Tony know that Ian is missing presumed dead?

noddyholder · 20/11/2014 13:35

She is engaged to a policeman is exactly the reason she could be. They aren't exactly low down the list of corrupt!

Expedititition · 20/11/2014 14:02

Teacher has had her throat slashed. Hence the scarf and saying to French policeman, "how can you day that to me?" When he said he would keep her safe.

Clawdy · 20/11/2014 14:35

Can't see any way the Emily theory works.Apart from no believable motive, she was in bed when Tony rang her to tell her he had lost Ollie. And if she was involved, then what on earth was that agonized crying and imagining she was holding him, at the poolside all about?

Chefpepperjack · 20/11/2014 14:36

Grin at Nancy!

funambulist · 20/11/2014 16:03

Have I missed something or have the police traced the building company who were doing work at the house where Ollie was held straight after he disappeared?

OttiliaVonBCup · 20/11/2014 16:18

No, the building work was years later.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/11/2014 16:28

There was definitely no mention of a skeleton. Ian had been declared dead after being missing for 7 years

I think Rini (that's how it was spelled on the subtitles) is wearing a scarf because something happened to her neck too

Fragglewump · 20/11/2014 16:34

I am a little baffled by it all. Nothing makes sense. I'll try again next week.

eddiemairswife · 20/11/2014 16:40

Are you my granddaughter Nancy?

BitOutOfPractice · 20/11/2014 16:45

What doesn't make sense fraggle. I've had a detailed conversation with my hairdresser today about it so I have it all straight in my mind

Fragglewump · 20/11/2014 16:48

Why that man with a drinkers nose is giving them money? Why baptiste is working on it now he's retired? Why mark is so odd? Who bourg is? Maybe I've been distracted by mumsnetting instead of giving it full attention!?!
