anyone else looking forward to the 3rd series? has been a great run up to Christmas for the past couple of years!

OP posts:

I do wish they'd sto showing previews of the next episode as it's a bit spoilery...

Echocave · 19/01/2015 12:41

stop showing, that should say...

Tigresswoods · 19/01/2015 12:45

You're all getting Kate & Caroline mixed up!

floellabenjaminsearrings · 19/01/2015 13:07

I find the whole "how Eddie died" storyline a bit tedious tbh. As far as I can remember it goes something like this:

Series 1 - Robbie is out to prove that Gillian killed Eddie. It turns out that he committed suicide, which had previously been kept secret from Raff. Alan then tells Celia that Gillian had found him alive, but didn't call an ambulance. Alan wonders though if there is more to it. Can't remember why Robbie called off his witch hunt - something to do with it being a cover for being in love with her.

Series 2 - When drunk, Gillian tells Caroline that she actually killed Eddie after all. Caroline is the only one who know this.

LillianGish · 19/01/2015 13:23

Not sure about Kate's ghost. Reminds me of something similar in Thirtysomething (shows age!) Hope that won't continue for too long.

auldspinster · 19/01/2015 13:27

I don't think Gillian will marry Robbie, somehow she's going to end up with John.

HyperThread · 19/01/2015 14:38

Caroline acted it out brilliantly. Glad they bought in the colic story line and showed what a huge huge impact it can have, on even someone as confident as Caroline

Frozenchipsareawful · 19/01/2015 15:01

I didn't see the last few series of Cold Feet, but apparently the character played by James Nesbit did a similar thing when his wife in the drama died, was talking to her as if she were still alive. I read reviews of the show, but it was all a long time ago so I could be wrong!
Sarah Lancashire who plays Caroline is simply brilliant - she used to play soppy Rachel in Corrie back in the 80's and she was good as her too. They all act well in this, but I did find the Gary character boring last night, another one with an addiction or personality problem, when I thought he was just going to be normal bloke who has done well in life, just pleased to find his real dad.. Floella is correct about Gillian and her dead husband - her dad always had an inkling she left him to die although he is loyal to her. by the trailer for next week, it sounds at though the new nanny wont last long... she only looks about 12 anyway! John is funny -I thought it was amusing the way he tried to get out of helping with Flora - typical bloke. I want to help, but...

MajesticWhine · 19/01/2015 17:03

thanks for filling me in benfolds and floella.

oncearedstar · 19/01/2015 17:48

Great ep again loved the line sl says to baby you have met my mother

SpanishFly · 21/01/2015 07:51

The only downside of LTIH is that it's such a short series. I always feel that I'm just getting properly into it, when the series ends.

diddl · 21/01/2015 08:52

I think I'll be glad for an end to the misery!

I'm thinking that Gillian & Robbies wedding won't happen.

And will everyone stop bringing up Eddie??!!

NKfell · 21/01/2015 13:54

I watched this last night and I was heartbroken! I don't think it was a good decision to kill off Kate and yes, just leave the Eddie thing where it is, six feet under!

33goingon64 · 21/01/2015 22:30

Think this is the BEST thing on tv at the moment by a long chalk. Script is so realistic you feel you know the characters. Acting all round is superb but especially Gillian and Caroline. I'd like them both to be my sisters or friends.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/01/2015 15:03

Did anyone see Nicola Walker (Gillian) in Scott and Bailey's last series? She was absolutely brilliant in that, and I can't shake off the same feeling of danger about her here. She has an air of massive capability with - and I think it's her weird eyes - an undertone of menace.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/01/2015 15:06

Slightly gollum eyes ...

ZeroFunDame · 22/01/2015 17:24

It's taken me a while to understand that this series is not aiming for realism. If I accept that it is a superb TV portrayal of women's lives and the decisions we have to make it's easier to accept that Kate; quiet, calm, idealised Kate was only ever going to be a plot device. She had no flaws, no skeletons, just the right amount of assertiveness - and she was never more alive than after Caroline's impressive wail of shock.

I was a bit annoyed - muttering about why she had to be the expendable one. (Not forgetting poor Judith's baby.) But she was boring. Her mother looks much more fun, I was sorry she had to leave so soon.

Nichola Walker btw - not "menace" but total unpredictability surely? The most watchable face, actually the most watchable person on TV in the last decade. I lack the requisite critical vocabulary but it's something to do with her body language - even in Spooks she always gave the impression that she was under no one else's control.

So looking forward to next Sunday.

BaconAndAvocado · 22/01/2015 17:26

LOVING this series! Acting, script and direction are superb!

33goingon64 · 22/01/2015 18:19

Dame, I completely agree. She has a really unusual combo of fragile, sturdy, vulnerable, intelligent, desperate, cool and volatile. Whilst Sarah Lancashire excels at stoic and compsed in a crisis, NW has an other wordliness about her.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/01/2015 18:42

Loose cannon is the phrase that springs to mind for me with Gillian. you never know quite what she's going to do next, but she is a fascinating mixture of vulnerable and tough as nails. NW is a brilliant actor, definitely going on my list of people who would make me watch a series just because she's in it. This is the only thing I've seen her in so far though.

ZeroFunDame · 22/01/2015 18:44

Go back and watch Spooks!

BaconAndAvocado · 22/01/2015 19:18

What about the long lost son? Not sure if he's been mentioned yet.

I wonder if he has anger management issues? Summat tells me there's trouble at mill.

BackforGood · 22/01/2015 19:49

I agree with Dame

You have to put aside your expecation of it being realistic / all likely to happen to one extended family (bit like the number of murders in Midsomer Murders or Death in Paradis Wink) and just enjoy the superb acting, writing, and general drama. It is the only thing at the moment that I'd watch the next episode back to back if I could.

Agree it's annoying that they show so much of the next episode at the end of each week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/01/2015 19:50

I haven't got time to watch much else at the moment, got about 24 episodes of The Good Wife to cstch up on. Is Spooks still being made? I've never seen it.

ZeroFunDame · 22/01/2015 20:02

Not still being made. Think it's available on iTunes. Almost certainly on YouTube. (And probably lots of other places.)

There are several series. (Don't think NW is in all of them.) Be sure to watch in order. Be careful not to glimpse the finale before you've seen the rest.
