I'm unsure if its my phone or not but no thread showing am I really only one watching

Frozenchipsareawful · 29/12/2014 16:29

I liked it but ( spoiler alert here..)..

how can they keep coming up with secrets for? Alan having an affair years ago didnt ring true. My Dh made me angry by saying Gillian was a tart! Ok, she knows the bloke she is sleeping with has a girlfriend etc etc , but it takes two to tango and he didnt call HIM a tart! I pulled him up on it, but goes to show attitudes havent changed that much.. I like Gillian, she is less stuck up than Caroline, who is a dreadful hypocrite. I like this drama though. At least they speak as people do in real life. Glad its back.

oncearedstar · 29/12/2014 18:42

I love it personally its one of my favourite programmes and hope Robbie gets rid of Cheryl it seemed at the wedding he wasn't into her that much, five episodes seems too short !

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 29/12/2014 18:50

They certainly opened up a whole heap of new issues to start this series. The long lost son is only the most obvious.

I'm a bit worried about the schoolboy's parents - hope it won't be a complication too far.

And the poor canal-boat friend ... And the ex-husband's girlfriend ...

So glad to see it back though.

Apophenia · 29/12/2014 19:06

I walked across the set of them filming this - they were using a local hospital. I was just attending my appointment and ended up right in the way!

diddl · 29/12/2014 22:40

It's all gone too soapy!

stottiecake · 29/12/2014 23:15

yes I must admit I was thinking how very far fetched it is - not very likely to have so many incredible events happening to one set of people. But they are all such great characters and beautifully played. so I shall continue watching Grin

I just watched it now, I liked it, not sure about the wedding, wonder will it all go smoothly, and I do feel for Carolines son, surely he should be allowed to change schools, he must feel awful and get an awful time from all the students, not sure I love the long lost son story but we'll see how it goes, I'll be watching it all anyway Smile

diddl · 30/12/2014 09:17

It is cleverly done, isn't it?

I mean you can't help rooting for alan & celia.

Then they do something like this so that you feel less sorry for Alan, then Celia spouts off about Caroline & Kate & you lose a bit of sympathy for her.

I don't really like caroline & kate. They just seem to be ploughing ahead & thinking of no one else.

Felt really sorry for Gillian when she realised that it wasn't a date!

Although Robbie has a girlfriend so she's not perfect!

And she murdered her husband. Or did she "only" leave him to die??!!

So I should imagine that they'll be agonising over whether or not to tell Celia & she'll find out somehow & be mad with everyone for not telling her!

Ujjayi · 30/12/2014 12:16

Given that Alan only settled for his first wife after losing Celia, I think his having an affair is realistic.

I cannot stand Celia. She is a nasty passive-aggressive snob. A total narcissist - whatever happens it is always about how it affects her.

Shame, because I really like the actress who plays herGrin

reallystuckonthisone · 30/12/2014 12:22

I think it's a series too far. I will still watch it because I loved the first 2 series, but it's definitely gettingba bit hackneyed and far fetched.

diddl · 30/12/2014 13:03

That's the whole problem with the "love story".

They both married, so did they both marry for the sake of it & not love their new spouses??

I don't like Celia that much or Caroline.

Caroline with all her "but I have to tell mum as she be gutted if she knew I knew & didn't tell her"

how about keep your bloody self righteous trap shut!

of course it's not "realistic" that Gillian would have told Caroline.

reallystuckonthisone · 30/12/2014 13:07

I think it's telling that I really couldn't care less about Alan's long lost son, even though I can believe he would have an affair.
And I don't like Celia either, I'm starting to think that a nice man like Alan wouldn't go near the bigoted, self absorbed old cow with a bargepole.

diddl · 30/12/2014 13:12

"starting to think that a nice man like Alan wouldn't go near the bigoted, self absorbed old cow with a bargepole."

You can't help thinking that if they had married it wouldn't have worked!

Not if she was to live & work on the farm anyway!

It seems that she had a certain standard of living with her husband that she put up with despite affairs!

Optimistletoe1 · 30/12/2014 17:38

I'm glad it's back, and agree with lots of comments about how narrow-minded and self-centred Celia is, but then we get a scene with her and Alan together and they just so obviously make each other happy that I relent a bit!

I do find it odd that the fine the friend has to pay for being drunk in charge of a houseboat (? - memory somewhat hazy on the circs) is so huge as to force him to sell his house. Did they actually mention how much it was?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 30/12/2014 17:52

I think he has to pay for the damage to the lock.

InnocenceAndExperience · 31/12/2014 09:34

I am hoping the new brother will be good for Gillian. Someone who will love her without sleeping with her (I sincerely hope!).

I love Gillian. She looks after people, she's not judgmental and she feels things deeply. But she has zero self-confidence.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2014 09:43

I still don't think the Caroline / Kate relationship rings true, Caroline is too self absorbed and bossy.

I was a bit puzzled about canal boat man too, is he related to the mother of Gillian's grandson? DH and DMIL kept talking over it when I was watching.
