anyone else looking forward to the 3rd series? has been a great run up to Christmas for the past couple of years!

OP posts:
ZeroFunDame · 02/02/2015 11:20

It was very contrived. Not sure exactly what the venue was but I'm sure it must have had bedrooms. So why didn't Gillian stay there the night before? All the flashbacks could still have been written in.

I can imagine SW in a flash of inspiration decided that for the finale Gillian and Catherine's positions would be dramatically reversed - Gillian calm and flawlessly glamorous and Caroline a harassed mess. It just didn't come off. Gillian looked washed out and a bit ragged and Caroline just comedically daubed with brown stuff.

Ho hum. What on earth would they put in another series?

pinkfrocks · 02/02/2015 12:07

Oh there is loads to put in another series....

Caroline and John and the biological dad for a start.
Celia and Alan- maybe he will die?
Rob and Gillian divorcing maybe?
Gary doing something daft perhaps? His own divorce maybe?
Gillian getting pregnant- she's not too old I assume.

Just a few ideas SW if you are reading....................!

GatoradeMeBitch · 02/02/2015 12:47

pinkfrocks I was eating my dinner while it was on, and I did notice that I couldn't hear Gillian while I was eating. And I'm not a very loud eater!

mammuzzamia · 02/02/2015 12:54

There will be another series and it will culminate in Gillian confessing to Robbie.

I'm still irritated that so many people didn't turn up to Caroline's wedding, in the case of Gillian, no real reason, and that was ok. But Caroline is expected to go to Gillian's wedding. It may be unfair of me but they would have all gone if she'd been marrying a man

I know much has happened since then but it still irritates episodes later

mammuzzamia · 02/02/2015 12:59

And I also don't like Gillian as she's so shifty and flaky, and unreliable. She's ideally suited to Caroline's ex. I've no idea why she didn't marry him, they seem very alike.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/02/2015 13:08

I see Gillian as vulnerable and damaged by her relationship with Eddie, unreliable partly because she's juggling too many roles and partly because she's scared of commitment, not because she's inherently flaky.

pinkfrocks · 02/02/2015 15:49

I find it very hard to separate out NW the actress and the characters she plays because she often seems type cast. She was in Silent Witness ages back when it was Amanda Burton, and she was a drunk or something similar who committed suicide in a car ( or tried to). She was good but it was yet another angst-ridden part with shouting, swearing, mumbling and portraying someone with MH issues. In LTIH she comes over as sly, unhinged, loose canon, dishonest, and not terribly bright. If this is what SW wanted then she's brill- if not, well....

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/02/2015 15:54

Ah, I've never seen her in anything else and know absolutely nothing about her in real life, so she's just Gillian to me.

mammuzzamia · 02/02/2015 16:21

She's definitely typecast!

pinkfrocks · 02/02/2015 16:25

She was the same in Spooks- lack of facial expression unless furious- and all along you wanted to shake her and say 'Tell Harry you bloody love him so he will tell you back- and put us all out of our misery!' - but she didn't. She died instead.

oncearedstar · 02/02/2015 16:28

She was a drunk who committed sucicide in Scott and Bailey too

wowfudge · 02/02/2015 16:53

I don't find it odd that Gillian has no female friends - she jumps into bed with every bloke she meets so it's no wonder. I think Celia knew damn well how Gillian knew the bloke from the supermarket, hence the phrasing of the question.

I thought the flashback stuff was not the best and couldn't help thinking that Caroline would have had a coat or something in the car and would have taken the white jacket off for starters.

pinkfrocks · 02/02/2015 17:23

'Caroline' seems to have got fatter and fatter each week- sorry!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/02/2015 18:33

Anyone would have looked fat in that white jacket, it was hideous.

LuluJakey1 · 02/02/2015 18:55

I liked Gillian's dress. There is no way ever I would find Robbie attractive. He never looks clean and there is something greasy looking and weak about him. He looked disgusting yesterday when he was ill- don't know how she went through with it. He. is shallow as well. It is not true I know

I am not sure what happened with Gillian's husband - he tried to commit suicide and she and Robbie found him alive and finished him off- is that it? Or was it just Gillian?

Anyway, here's my bets for next series:
Gillian is pregnant, father is boy from cheese counter
Gillian has to confess about murdering her first husband as Raff overhears something being discussed
Alan has a heart attack
Caroline and Gregg have something- not sure what
Gillian still sleeping with all and sundry
Robbie dies in police incident sparing Gillian from telling him about the baby and relieving some of her money worries because she gets a pay off from police or insurance
She settles for John and alcoholism

mammuzzamia · 02/02/2015 19:23

I think that sounds spot on, lulu Grin

oncearedstar · 02/02/2015 19:35

Another series has been confirmed on Twitter not sure if I'm pleased or not loved series 1 and 2 and don't want to have bad memories of the programme

Tigresswoods · 02/02/2015 20:20

I've really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next series & some outrageous story lines Grin

Ilovereadingbooks · 02/02/2015 20:48

Lulu, send it in to the BBC, this is how series 4 will go anyway! Unless they get abducted by aliens or Eddie comes out the shower saying ' it was all a dream' i dont think theres much more can happen to them. Unless she writes a spin off with Rafe and Garys girls, but that could turn into Hollyoaks...

Tigresswoods · 02/02/2015 20:53

Just found series 1 on Netflix. I never saw series 1!

ZeroFunDame · 02/02/2015 21:03

So essentially it's going to be an ongoing soap now?

Hmm. Let's hope they can carve out a slightly more relaxed wardrobe for Caroline. Stiletto heels, preposterously tight skirt, slippery kitchen floor, full mug and toddler is not an ideal combination. Although Greg's flip flops are just asking for trouble.

Should be ok if they can retain the same Gillian, John, Raff, Ellie and Laurence as well. Pointless otherwise.

Tigresswoods · 02/02/2015 22:24

Series 1 Episode 1 done on Netflix. Oooh it's good.

SpanishFly · 03/02/2015 07:43

I do still enjoy the programme but it's so far removed from the first 2 series. It's actually hard to see much of a link between this series and the first, in terms of the style of writing and the pace of the storylines

drwitch · 03/02/2015 10:03

I heard that Derek Jacobi wanted to be more than a twinkly old man. He felt that the women were getting all the interesting roles, thus we had to make Alan have a journey too.
My plan for the next series
Gillian and John cop off (perhaps by giving up booze not John was drinking orange juice at the wedding)
Robbie finds out about both (the murder and the shagging) and hits her. He then goes away (perhaps to find his real parents), He forgives Gillian but no longer trusts himself. He leaves the series
Caroline meets someone in new York and conducts a messy long distance relationship

ZeroFunDame · 03/02/2015 10:09

Yes, DJ really didn't have much to do in this series. He was mesmerising when he raged at Gary - but otherwise it was all twinkling at Celia. (I'd hoped he'd lead a march on Downing Street in support of his friend ...)
