Yes!

Have you watched the two earlier series?

Tigresswoods · 15/01/2015 19:24

Yes to Calamity. I forget why.

I forget why anything has happened on this programme. I do love it though.

LillianGish · 15/01/2015 19:31

Waves to Zero. Haven't see the previous two though my mum filled me in on the background. Amazing thing is that DH likes it too (always a bonus) although he managed to predict exactly what was going to happen on Sunday as soon as Kate offered to take the boys. I was furious as I thought he'd read a spoiler - in fact he just guessed!!

redskybynight · 15/01/2015 19:34

Baby is really called Emily Jane, but when her parents rang to tell Alan what they'd registered her as (they hadn't previously decided on the name) it was a bad phone line and he thought they said Calamity Jane.

diddl · 15/01/2015 19:37

The baby is Emily Jane, which I think "Alan" misheard as Calamity Jane.

So Calamity stuckGrin

diddl · 15/01/2015 19:38

Oops, must learn to refresh before posting.

ZeroFunDame · 15/01/2015 19:40

Lilian - Radio fury wiped "Emily Jane" from my memory.

LillianGish · 15/01/2015 20:05

Grin Zero

Tigresswoods · 18/01/2015 22:15

Oooh so much to say.

Shall we start with Gary. He's clearly completely unhinged....

stottiecake · 18/01/2015 22:27

Grin yes utterly! was anyone else weeping with Caroline? Sarah lancashire - what a great actress!!
erm yes Gary. what's all that about then? something a bit threatening about him. hmm.

I've said all along that there's summat not reet about that Gary. I wonder what's going on there?

It was soooo flipping sad tonight :(

Queenofwands · 19/01/2015 00:02

Pissed off at the way they gave all next weeks plot away at the end. The reaction to Kate's death was very unrealistic. I like Sally Wainwright but I think this series is depressing and the characters don't ring true. Was Sally in a bad place when she wrote this?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2015 00:04

I never cry at the telly and I was weeping my heart out with Caroline sobbing into her mum's shoulder. :( Just reminded me of all the times I've done the same to my mum, and poor Caroline's mum couldn't do anything to help her :(

Gary - I was wondering if his business isn't a bit dodgy. What's it supposed to be again? Tonight he seemed like he was on drugs (coke?)

LuluJakey1 · 19/01/2015 00:08

Gary bipolar? Seemed manic tonight.

stareatthetvscreen · 19/01/2015 00:31

thought this weeks was the best yet.sl is quite brilliant in this.could watch her all night.

benfoldsfive · 19/01/2015 08:42

I think Gary, is manic and will become violent or at least very aggressive. The way Gill had to say calm down to him in the cafe? Not right. I also don't belive that bio dad would be involved.

pinkfrocks · 19/01/2015 11:12

Does anyone else find Nicola Walker (Gillian) a bit of an odd actress? I didn't warm to her in Spooks and find her irritating in LTIH too.

I don't know if it's her face- she always looks so bloody miserable- or if it's her eyes that are so hooded and make her look shifty. I'm not trying to be bitchy- am sure she's a lovely person!- but there is something about her acting that drives me nuts. I just find her facial expressions a bit weird and in this series she comes over as weird- but then she did in Spooks too, never actually consummating the relationship with Harry- she always looks/acts as if she is going to say something, then doesn't! I know that's the script people and not her some of the time, but I just find her rather odd.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2015 11:19

I agree, although I do like her. She always seems to have a slightly mysterious air or distance about her.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2015 11:20

On the subject of Gary, I thought Gillian looked scared of him in the cafe - as if it was how her husband would have behaved.

MajesticWhine · 19/01/2015 11:26

I've only just discovered the joys of LTIH and missed out on the last 2 series. So Gillian killed her husband? Can anyone give me the quick backstory?

Echocave · 19/01/2015 11:32

I love this series. I know it's a bit over the top plot-wise sometimes but the acting and script are so good. The scene where Flora's biological dad wanted to meet her was so brilliantly acted.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 19/01/2015 11:41

Never mind the whys and wherefores ... I WANT CAROLINE'S HOUSE!

ANewMein2015 · 19/01/2015 11:43

I think that often, The return!!!!

benfoldsfive · 19/01/2015 11:44

Majestic Gills husbands recorded death was accidental with farming equipment. Gill admitted she had hit him over the head, he was abusive, and left him to die. Alan knows as does kate. I think Alan knew at the time and helped her through it (could be miss remembering it)

The whole series premise is that first marriages just do not work Grin [grin

benfoldsfive · 19/01/2015 11:44

She confessed it to kate when she was really really drunk
