I like Kay Mellor and it has a great cast. Anyone else giving it a go?

Oh last night was a tad emotional for me.

mandy214 · 13/08/2014 13:04

Blondes (spoiler alert) the plot thickened last night for the other two is he really the father

DinoSnores · 13/08/2014 15:21

I got annoyed at the lack of medical accuracy as well. In that sort of case, they'd put the mother straight to sleep and whip out the baby straight away as she is going off to sleep, with a vast amount of on call medical team on hand who would have run there and assembled there in a couple of minutes. There'd be no idea for long serious looks over the intubated patient!

A friend of mine had a crash section of such emergency that the consultant didn't even scrub, just stuck on a pair of sterile gloves and got on with it!

breward · 13/08/2014 17:47

I'm loving it...but then I love a bit of trash TV!

What I could not get my head around was why Will Mellor was not handcuffed when he was taken down from the car park ledge. With all the armed police present, would they really let a wanted armed robber travel in the back of a police car and into a hospital uncuffed?

Teacher telling the 15 year old about her father being in an accident had me sobbing.

Looking forward to next week's episode.

fussychica · 13/08/2014 18:17

Blimey wish my recovery from a C section had been that quick - things must have really moved on since my DS was bornGrin

Load of tosh really but quite enjoyable tosh. DH hates this kind of tosh so am watching alone. Haven't got emotional yet - think the acting is too bad for thatGrin

Any bets on who the father of the teens baby is?

Re Jaz I know someone who did just this - amazingly her husband stuck with her following the birth - poor man was probably too shocked to leaveShock

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/08/2014 19:34

Watched last nights

I'm loving it :)

Wondering if jack is the dad of the Lady who got preg on honeymoon. WAS SHE preg before the wedding and not 37 weeks preg and therefore not her husbands and he was meant to be her first ........

Assume the school boy who got her school at and book back from the bully is the father of the teenage girl

Lambstales · 13/08/2014 19:52

Jaz told her DH 34 weeks when she is really 37 weeks. Yes, before the honeymoon.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/08/2014 19:57

I'm surprised she managed to keep it secret for so long - wouldn't it have been mentioned at the scans etc. how many weeks she was?

bambinibop · 13/08/2014 21:45

Please can someone tell me who the actress is who plays the other midwife glasses and short brown hair what has she been in before I really recognise her but can't place her!!!
I agree with all the above this is quite rubbish TV but kind of addictive. ...

Onesleeptillwembley · 13/08/2014 21:57

She was grantleys first wife in Waterloo rd, and was in early doors with the pregnant midwife. She has done more as well, I'm sure.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/08/2014 22:00

Eddie and Joan My fave couple.

Onesleeptillwembley · 13/08/2014 22:24

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/08/2014 22:30
Grin
Onesleeptillwembley · 13/08/2014 22:33

She's in Trollied as well.

Marlinspike · 13/08/2014 22:40

Too cliched for me...the lack of medical knowledge in the delivery theatre was alarming ("have you thought to give her adrenaline?"), the one midwife sent to deal with the emergency carpark birth - then handing the baby to Hermione Norris...Jill Halfpenny and Will Mellor could resolve their money probs with a handy medical negligence claim.

Oh, yes, and the police allowing a member of the public in the police car with armed officers - that's perfectly believable isn't it!

So we've had:
emergency delivery in car park
baby on SCBU
pregnant teen in denial
pre eclampsia
older woman / younger man
debatable parentage of unborn baby
expectant lesbian couple

what else in the pregnancy bingo stakes?

baby swapped by mistake
baby kidnap by desperate bereaved parent
PND
breast vs bottle

Anyone got any more?

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/08/2014 22:57

Watching ep 2 now on catch up. The non-pregnant midwife (dark hair, plump, glasses) is fucking awful. She's so wooden, it's like the pulled someone off the street and asked them to read some lines so the others could have a dress rehearsal.

I'm up to the crash section/squiffy 2nd twin. Not looking good.

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/08/2014 22:59

The medical team are coming across a bit amateurish too. Dialogue is shite awful.

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/08/2014 23:01

Anyone got any more?

Still birth?

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/08/2014 23:03

Yeah, like a complete stranger would be allowed to pick up your kids from school without parental permission. Slack school, as well as incompetent midwives.

I need to take a deep breath and step away from this thread. It's just so badly written.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/08/2014 23:08

Being fair we've had giving birth on hands and knees and breast feeding so it's doing better than most episodes of OBEM.

The blonde midwife isn't that pregnant is she? A lot behind the others at any rate.

littlequestion · 13/08/2014 23:12

Watching it now on catch up. Is this what happens in most parentcraft groups? Wish I'd gone there instead of the dull old NCT.

Boysclothes · 13/08/2014 23:13

Prediction: hermione norris's baby will have FAS.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/08/2014 23:22

Notice how it's all the ones with the interesting story lines who've made friends, none of the normal ones at the back!

Also, does Jill Halfpenny always speak like that? I know she's geordie, but she sounds different somehow, harsher maybe? Bearing in mind the last time I probably heard her talk 'as herself' was when she was in Strictly! She just didn't sound how I was expecting her to.

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/08/2014 23:35

Prediction: hermione norris's baby will have FAS

Interesting prediction. Or Downs. The way this is laying on the judgementalism with a trowel, you feel she's headed for a fall - everything's always gone her way before, but now she's on a downer and her fancy man and affinity with gin need to be accounted for. You could be right on the money boysclothes.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/08/2014 23:46

Yes, maybe the 15 year old, whose position seems the worst to begin with might actually end up having the easiest time.
