I like Kay Mellor and it has a great cast. Anyone else giving it a go?

Just need an eclampsia...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2014 21:56

Oh, and I think we have it!

wineoclocktimeye · 12/08/2014 21:57

Wow that c section anesthetic wore off fast Smile

wineoclocktimeye · 12/08/2014 21:58

Also, dad who thinks he's dad and isn't........ HOUSE

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2014 21:59

I can't take this as seriously as I should be doing.

It's like the NCT group of multiple issues...

Southeastdweller · 12/08/2014 22:01

Hated the slow-mo - so pretentious.

I can't believe in the Hermione Norris and her 27 year old partner story so I hope that's explored more later on.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2014 22:05

I can't see it lasting. I'd like to see her teenagers too - see it a bit from another angle.

Lambstales · 12/08/2014 22:12

Another possible twist is that the blond chap in the hospital with flowers for Jaz is Hermoine's son (the solicitor).

Lambstales · 12/08/2014 22:14

Jaz was recommending him to Diane and Roanna said she knew him.....

Southeastdweller · 12/08/2014 22:16

But isn't the blonde chap the biological father of Jaz's baby? Which makes me wonder how long she could keep lying to her husband for so long Hmm

Lambstales · 12/08/2014 22:20

Perhaps she was hoping that her dark features would be dominant. Or she's got her head in the sand. Or she's a little scared of the husband/his family. Dunno.
Anyhow, I think it's Granny Roanna and she goes back to hubby, perhaps....

Ziggyzoom · 12/08/2014 22:34

It is just such utter shite! Too mant cliches, too many ridiculous coincidences and about as subtle as a brick.

It is a shame because there are some good actors in it and some good individual performances, and it is filmed in my home town. But the plot is dire and utterly farcical.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/08/2014 22:47

Hermione swigging from the 500ml bottle of Gaviscon in ep 1made me chuckle & brought back memories of my 1st pregnancy. Otherwise, its been overwrought and cliched. Not watched tonight's yet, but you lot aren't really selling it to me...

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/08/2014 22:50

Also, DH came in half way through and I found myself catching him up by saying that Jill Halfpenny "came over all Basil Exposition at her scan and covered all her main plot points" - just about says it all.

Cataline · 12/08/2014 22:56

The acting was terrible! The conversations between the male partners in the antenatal group and then the pub were cringeworthingly dire too- completely unrealistic and shite!

Cataline · 12/08/2014 22:58

^^ that was from episode one. I couldn't bear to watch tonight's offering! Grin

Onesleeptillwembley · 12/08/2014 23:12

It bad! Great actors putting in some good performances, but its really dire. So cliched it's a cliche. And I'm hating Hermione's performance. Normally she never puts a foot wrong. Can't believe how she's aged, either.

Onesleeptillwembley · 12/08/2014 23:14

In fact it's so far fetched and bad it's almost good. Bit of a footballers wives thing going on.

mandy214 · 12/08/2014 23:25

Getting up and walking by yourself a couple of hours after a section?! Having said that, I had prem twins and the shots of Twin 2 in NICU in a little incubator were realistic.

GetHappy · 12/08/2014 23:31

I feel sorry for the pregnant midwife .. she was there on the night whilst the 15 year old girl gave birth and still there the next day!

Tonight's episode had me in tears though!!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2014 23:55

Some bits are quite funny and realistic - like the debating about whether she was pregnant and whether they could ask or not, in case she'd just put on weight. Or the midwives' reactions to being told there was a lady having a baby in the car park.

And some of the acting's fantastic - I think Jill Halfpenny's brilliant, and I like Hermione Norris. Her storyline is a bit unbelievable, but I do feel like I understand hr character.

The problem is it's so over dramatic it's almost reaching farcical levels.

Icimoi · 13/08/2014 06:50

The blond man can't be the solicitor they're talking about. Hermione Norris said he'd acted for her, and we saw her solicitor at the meeting in episode 1. It wouldn't be ethical for a solicitor to act for one parent against the other.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/08/2014 08:12

Ahhh. Thought last night was e1. Starts last week. Will find on demand tho from what some of you have said doesn't sound good - but has a great cast so that's a shame

Will watch and see what I think :)

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/08/2014 09:26

Yah for demand :)

I really enjoyed the first episode and will watch 2nd tonight after work

Teenager
Twins with bank robber redundant hubby
Gay bi love triangle
Older mum and younger bf

Tho the other two don't seem to have much storyline unless I missed something

Doobledootch · 13/08/2014 09:42

I watched this last night, and kept screaming at the TV, call the fucking crash team!! On ER when they had a prolapsed cord the midwife stuck her hand in and stopped the baby from squashing it, and surely they'd have sent more than one midwife with a wheelchair out to the car park for a singleton birth nevermind twins.

I did secretly quite enjoy it though as I haven't watched anything like this for ages and in need of a bit of trash tv in my life Blush
