The New Doctor?

Or just the trailer for the 50th anniversary episode?

Or something else entirely?

itll be PFFT to the royal birth we will all be sitting at the edge of our seats on sunday Grin

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 10:39

I wonder if it is somebody quite famous that is why they are doing the announcement on telly

MostlyLovingLurchers · 03/08/2013 10:49

My fantasy Doctor would be Mark Gatiss as the Doctor - i know he's been it a couple of times but he was surely born for the role, not that I think it is him.

The chap playing Richard III in The White Queen, Aneurin Barnard, would be fabulous.

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 10:53

my friend wants it to be Jonathan Rhys Myers but he would be too pouty and sighy imo

Bunnygotwhacked · 03/08/2013 11:16

Oh yes Mostly Rich III guy would be lovely but still reckon it will be Moriarty Grin

BigBoPeep · 03/08/2013 11:23

ugh no, the RIII chap is like a stilted edward scissorhands!!?

Badgerwife · 03/08/2013 13:00

I don't know if it's been mentioned before as I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I would pay money to have Peter Capaldi as Dr Who

Badgerwife · 03/08/2013 13:07

ahem, turns out I should have at least read page 2 Blush

celticclan · 03/08/2013 13:32

I think I need a serious chat with ds1 (8). I said that the new Dr Who may be a woman, he pondered for a moment and then said "Will they have to change the name to Nurse Who?" Hmm

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 03/08/2013 13:38

Ooh, have just looked at some of the names that are being mooted. Insert blasphemy of your choice here I hope it's not Billie Piper, I don't think I could take her mockney accent again. Also she has been a major character so it would be weird.

Of this list, I'm liking Peter Capaldi, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Daniel Rigby. The guy who plays Moriarty in Sherlock is a good actor but a little too convincing in that sinister role for me to imagine him as Doctor Who.

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 13:44

Will they have to change the name to Nurse Who?"

oh dear time for a stern women can be Drs too char with him Grin

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 13:45

chat* there is an actor I quite like but can never remember his name he was in Spooks a few years ago he would be good and he is very handsome Grin

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 03/08/2013 13:51

Sorry, have just read a bit of the rest of the thread. Somebody mentioned Tom Ellis out of Miranda...I don't think he'd be right at all and anyway I read an interview with him in which he said he was trying to get film work in LA (and hence may not even do another series of Miranda). He seems very nice but he lacks the naughtiness that the Doctor needs...as I think does Damian Maloney (who played Hal in Being Human. I loved watching him in that but at times struggled to believe he was a bloodthirsty mass murderer).

RustyBear · 03/08/2013 13:51

Just checking on this thread - I am currently waiting in a queue at the Doctor Who experience at Cardiff Bay... My birthday treat!

OP posts:
AlphaBetaOoda · 03/08/2013 14:20

Like the Hal idea but the BT guy could have potential too,

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 14:27

Russel Tovey (is that his name) has been banned about but he has been in it twice once in the titanic episode and when David Tennant left captain jack was chatting him up in the bar

ShadeofViolet · 03/08/2013 14:52

I would love it to be Kris Marshall, but he is taking over the main role on Death in Paradise.

IcedCoffeeQueen · 03/08/2013 15:12

rusty - please do let me know what its like at the doctor who experience, I want to take ds1 his absolute obsession is doctor who but Scotland to Cardiff is quite a stretch, also if you could let me know if its toddler friendly for ds2 that would be very appreciated!

have fun :)

squoosh · 03/08/2013 16:15

I will be very annoyed if Chiwetel Ejiofor is announced as the new Doctor.

He is way too talented for this.

Bunnygotwhacked · 03/08/2013 17:28

Russel Tovey if i am thinking of the right guy was in Sherlock too though so has the Stephen Moffat connection. Wouldn't it be amazing if it turned out to be Benedict Cumberbatch as a complete blindside.

I was trying to think today did Matt Smiths name ever come up among those being touted for the 11th doctor. I don't recall him ever being mentioned and i think perhaps it might go that way again eg anyone we have thought of would be seen by SM as too obvious a choice

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 17:36

Wouldn't it be amazing if it turned out to be Benedict Cumberbatch as a complete blindside.

I would cry and have to poke my eyes out with a spoon it cant be him

Russel was also in Being Human maybe his second name isnt tovey

mrsjay · 03/08/2013 17:37

It is Tovey just googled

scottishmummy · 03/08/2013 17:39

Peter capaldi

Tee2072 · 03/08/2013 17:45

No. That would not be amazing, MrsJ. That would be sickening.

I can't stand that man and his non-face. Plus, he I've never seen him be funny. Even a little bit.

Yes, Russell Tovey was in an episode of Sherlock. He has been mentioned as The Doctor previously.
