The New Doctor?

Or just the trailer for the 50th anniversary episode?

Or something else entirely?

Yes frankel, yes I did poster is on my bedroom ceiling

MavisGrind · 06/08/2013 13:42

Just a thought...Do you think we might get a woman Doctor as part of the way round the restricted number of regenerations? I would prefer the Doctor to remain male, but think we need some more kick ass female companions - fed up with the Amy/Clara's of this world!

FrankelInFoal · 06/08/2013 13:47

I thought the restricted regenerations theory had been debunked - something to do with River giving the Doctor her regenerations?

Steven Moffat has said he'd love to have a female Doctor, but that people don't seem ready for it just yet. He said there is absolutely no reason why the Doctor couldn't be female.

Grin @ Glaikit

MavisGrind · 06/08/2013 13:57

As I say...just a thought! I hope SM isn't still writing when we get a female Doctor - he's largely crap at writing women.

I still want Catherine Tate to come back, she was bloody brilliant.

confuddledDOTcom · 06/08/2013 14:55

There's lots of reasons why it won't happen. I think they've also established that the Time Lords enforce it so there's no one to enforce it any more. I think John Hurt also helps explain it, he's a regen of [whoever the Doctor really is] but he wasn't The Doctor.

KayHarker · 06/08/2013 15:19

I want the Doctor to remain male for the sake of my son. So many male role models on telly are all about violent solutions to problems, instead of having to think about it and try and resolve things with another idea. Not always the case, I appreciate, but where it happens, it's worth keeping hold of. He carries a sonic screwdriver, not a gun. I'd like to see great role models for my girls too, don't get me wrong, but I want to retain the Doctor for my boy.

I agree Arthur, I assumed that John Hurt was the "missing" 9th Doctor. I take the comment about him "not deserving the name of Doctor" to mean that he did something so terrible that subsequent regenerations refuse to acknowledge him.

The first video on page 28 is a BBC one isn't it? And that puts him there as well, so I presume that must be correct.

I don't like Matt Smith's new haircut, it makes his ears look very stuck out I don't think it suits him as well as the floppy haircut does.

On a random note. On the Facebook groups and the DW memes I keep seeing, they keep talking about bananas. I've seen all the episodes at least twice and watching through again on Watch. Can someone tell me what I'm missing? I've never seen anyone else talking about bananas other than there, am I a bad Whovian?

Has anyone see

KayHarker · 07/08/2013 15:56

well, bananas are good. Good source of potassium and you should always take a banana to a party.

RustyBear · 07/08/2013 16:31

In The Doctor Dances where the Doctor meets Jack for the first time Jack uses a blaster which the Doctor identifies as being from the 51st century, from the weapons factory of Villengard.

Jack asks if he's been there, the Doctor says 'Once' and Jack says the factory was destroyed. The Doctor replies 'Like I said, once. There's a banana grove there now. Bananas are good.' Later Jack pulls the blaster out, but the Doctor's switched it for a banana...

So there are 5 new episodes (including a Comic Relief episode) and 4 old (9 mentions in 50 years, not counting TW or stories) that mention bananas and a couple of funny lines from them that caught on with some people. I was getting the impression I was missing a big running theme.

Old: Ghost Light, Frontier in Space, The Two Doctors, Out of Time
New: The Doctor Dances, Midnight, The Girl in the Fireplace, Smith and Jones, Space, Let's Kill Hitler
TW: Something Borrowed, Random Shoes
COMIC: Death to the Doctor! Assimilation² Triskaidekaphobia
PROSE: Forever Autumn, Martha in the Mirror, Snowglobe 7, Wishing Well

AlphaBetaOoda · 07/08/2013 20:36

That's quite well done confuddled

confuddledDOTcom · 07/08/2013 21:26

There's a page for banana on a wiki, it was annoying me enough to count it up Blush
