The New Doctor?

Or just the trailer for the 50th anniversary episode?

Or something else entirely?

OP posts:

Alexander Siddig is an interesting one. He's done a few DW audio plays..

Flobbadobs · 02/08/2013 20:19

Oh hang on, he's in the new Sky one series Atlantis.

Thurlow · 02/08/2013 20:22

I remember Richard Coyle being bandied around last time, he would be absolutely amazing. I loved him in that Pratchett adaption a few years ago.

It's going to be the last person we expect. No one hardly knew who Matt Smith was a few years ago, unless they'd watched Party Animals (which was great and I'm now annoyed I can't watch the box set the same way anymore)

teejwood · 02/08/2013 20:24

Apparently the bookies have suspended betting - with the belief that Peter Capaldi really has it. So shows what I know Grin

teejwood · 02/08/2013 20:35

And he fits the uber-fandom a la Tennant having written a letter to the Radio Times back in the day

So Radio Times has an article extolling the virtues of Ben Daniels and an article on how Capaldi would just at the chance to be the Doctor.

Mmmm - they are messing with our minds, aren't they? Wink

teejwood · 02/08/2013 20:36

would just jump

Bunnygotwhacked · 02/08/2013 21:01

Just been watching sherlock and reckon it's going to be Andrew Scott
www.imdb.com/name/nm0778831/ momentary brain wave going to finish watching it now

Tee2072 · 02/08/2013 21:54

My husband heard Capaldi might be the next Master.

ShadeofViolet · 02/08/2013 22:20

I would love Capaldi as a baddie, but I just cant see him as the Doctor.

I love him as Malcolm, but I just cant see him switching from someone so hateful to the Doctor.

I want it to be the actor who has been playing Anthony Rivers in The White Queen.

teejwood · 02/08/2013 22:25

Tee that would make a lot of sense. Either him or I could see Ben Daniels being a good Master/ other baddie, too.

The WHO team likes to misdirect, needs to really, in these days of t'interweb, spoilers and social media, so I could imagine that Capaldi and/or Daniels are involved but not as the Doctor.

It's almost like in the run up to the announcement you look at all the red herrings and have to say, no, it's not him!

Bunny, Andrew Scott certainly fits the Moff link in terms of getting the job - he is just such a good baddie, though, it almost seems a shame to have him as the Doctor Grin On top of which, he may well yet be in future eps of Sherlock.

I've always thought that if Sherlock could survive the fall at Reichenbach so could Moriarty and the way the TV series played it, he could easily have been faking Sherlock, just as Sherlock faked his own death. In fact, I thought the whole exchange about them being the same seemed to allude to this. And none of the characters alluded to Moriarty's death in the aftermath. IMHO, they've set it up so that Sherlock played out the whole confession to Watson knowing that Moriarty was listening and then took the fall, literally, knowing that Moriarty would believe he had succeeded and therefore he would call off his hounds.

So that's why I think the Doctor may not be Andrew Scott, as he'll be back in Sherlock
Wink

MavisGrind · 02/08/2013 22:35

teej - totally agree re Moriarty. When I first saw that episode I spent as much time working out how Moriarty faked his death as I did pondering Sherlock. The premise of the whole story is faking it - either break ins, court cases, human emotions (Sherlock getting Molly to help him in a way as yet revealed), computer codes and suicides.

I hope we haven't seen the last of Moriarty. He was good.

Anyway, back to the Doctor speculations..!

DamnDeDoubtance · 02/08/2013 22:52

I would love Idris Elba but it's never gonna happen. Keeping my fingers crossed for Damien Maloney.

teejwood · 02/08/2013 23:01

Shade - Ben Lamb - old Etonian/ex-Oxbridge 24-year old? Not saying you're wrong in any way at all, but the people who thought Matt Smith was too fresh faced would be apoplectic!
And - um - there are rather a lot of Old Etonians around atm, not sure about having one as the Doctor.

Also - having just stalked his twitter account, if it is him, he may have been dropping hints....

teejwood · 02/08/2013 23:04
