The New Doctor?

Or just the trailer for the 50th anniversary episode?

Or something else entirely?

DS1 (8) said that he looks really nice, but he won't decide until he sees the screwdriver. All important in his eyes.

Uptheairymountain · 04/08/2013 20:29

I'd have liked Chiwetel Ejiofor or Olivia Coleman tbh.

Peter Capaldi's great, but he'll always be John Frobisher in Children of Earth (to me at least!).

specialsubject · 04/08/2013 20:29

great choice. Never seen him in anything except Dr Who and Torchwood but looks like he can do actual acting.

the role needs an older face. Matt Smith has quite an old face for his tender years which is why he worked.

BTW 12 year olds can be allowed to 'fancy' people they have never met. Adults probably should not!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 04/08/2013 20:30

On the way they told us - I think Zoe Ball did very well with it (she's always sooo lovely !) but I think they spoiled it a bit by telling us. Thought the young chap on panel summed up very well why Dr Who is so great and Zoe was brilliant at helping him bounce back from the couple of errors he made !

But DS (11) captured it perfectly wailing "Why did they tell us ?"

I guess because they didn't think they could keep a secret and wanted some publicity for the new series. But I don't think they ever told us before did they ?

I think, like many doctors, he'll be better than we think once he makes it his own.

I don't know him well (but do recognise him from somewhere), but DH says he's a good actor.

Trigglesx · 04/08/2013 20:32

I suppose keeping it a secret much longer would be an absolute nightmare. This way they can release it themselves and have some control over it.

Tee2072 · 04/08/2013 20:33

They announced before it leaked, basically, Juggling. This way they control the story.

Yes, the show changed. If they show hadn't changed? There would be no more show.

It stopped being a joke and became a real show.

How is that a bad thing?

rosy71 · 04/08/2013 20:38

They have revealed it before. Matt Smith was interviewed on Jonathan Ross about being the new doctor before he took over from David Tennant. I can also remember Tom Baker regenerating into Peter Davison and I'm sure it was already known who it woul be.

Honestly, the sole reason for Dr.Who isn't that everybody should fancy him/want to sleep with him, you know. Don't be so predictable, MN'ers!

Anyway, I thought PC looked quite attractive on tonight's show

2rebecca · 04/08/2013 20:49

If having an older bloke means they stop having soppy side stories of the doctor and his assistant mooning over each other then I'm all for it. Bring back the doctor as boffin.
I think they should have had Bill Nighy, he has gravitas, is a great actor, would be believable as an intelligent bloke (Matt Smith wasn't to me)and is sexy but old enough they wouldn't be pairing him up with the young girlies currently favoured as side kicks without the Jimmy Saville thing being mentioned.

Bogeyface · 04/08/2013 20:57

I still think that it would have been better if it was Mr BT, he won a BAFTA for his Eric Morcambe, he would be brilliant. Not interested at all now. It went down hill with MS, and I cant see it recovering with this one tbh.

Daniel Rigby! Just had to google him!

RustyBear · 04/08/2013 21:03

Rosy- yes, Peter Davison was announced before Tom Baker left - he was the first regeneration to be announced on the BBC news. PD used to tell the story of how a friend of his had the TV on with the sound off and thought he must have died because that was usually the only reason an actor would be on the news...

Perfectly happy with this casting. PC is a fine actor and I'm hoping he's seen some scripts which aren't shit which convinced him to take on the role Grin

Suddengeekgirl · 04/08/2013 21:15

Not thrilled. Actually a little disappointed. :(

Peter Capaldi is a great actor etc etc BUT he is a creepy/ shifty/ bad guy actor. I can't think of anything I've seen him in where he is warm and good - even being interviewed I still found him a bit cold. Confused

Maybe the storylines will be epic-ly amazing and ill have change my mind within the first episode ... Hmm

edam · 04/08/2013 21:16

Very good point Mavis, there is hope!

LEMisdisappointed · 04/08/2013 21:26

He seems a bit scary-creepy, ive not heard of him before but he seems quirky enough, i quite liked the stare :)

My dream doctor would have been Colin Firth! just imagine!!

What did utterly frustrate me though was the show - i was expecting an EPISODE where the reveal happened in the regeneration!! And Zoe Ball is looking a bit tired these days don't you think?

Talkinpeace · 04/08/2013 21:27

When I was a kid, Dr Who was a sort of mad uncle (Jon Pertwee / Tom Baker in particular)
getting rid of "romantic" interest will free up lots of space in plots as "unrequited love" always runs out of steam

Talkinpeace · 04/08/2013 21:29

and am still utterly gobsmacked that people have not heard of Peter Capaldi
FFS he was in Local Hero
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Capaldi

JugglingFromHereToThere · 04/08/2013 21:31

Yeh, I was expecting an episode or mini-episode too LEM - not just a chat show !

Plus3 · 04/08/2013 21:32

I'm a bit surprised....wonder where it is going to go next?

Our house are still sad about Matt Smith going. My DC and me absolutely loved him. Bit worried about the many tears that will be shed on Christmas Day. Still....they will get over it [hopeful face]

NoComet · 04/08/2013 21:36

If the plots are really good I would too would quite like a move away from unrequited love too, but I'm not sure DD2 will relate to Clara traveling round with an 'old freak' in a box.

NoComet · 04/08/2013 21:37

And it had leaked someone posted here digital spy links that were sure it was PC.
