Well I'm 45 and I think PC looks like a plastic theatrical lovey and I certainly don't fancy him. It's a thumbs down from me too.

I didn't much like MS, but at least the DDs did and he was funny.

DD1(15) is away, she may well give a more measured response, but I think they are going to loose a lot of younger fans.

Yeah! Actually really pleased about Capaldi - I thought between Malcolm Tucker and The Muskateers and the need to commercialise the show that they would not plump for him - but very glad they did!

Now for the tsunami of YouTube vids of Malcolm Tucker as the Doctor - whatever we have seen so far is only the tip of the iceberg

I don't see why they should lose younger fans. There was never a 'fit' Dr Who when I was little but I still loved the programme.

ds, aged 9, texted my sister saying 'I don't know who Peter Capaldi is but Mummy and Daddy are making lots of noise, running around and cheering'.

In this house, I am happy, DS is happy even though he just knows Capaldi from Fires of Pompeii and DH is happy. He might actually be more interested now! DD is sulking that the Doctor isn't female

Not a hit here either ds1 who is Dr Who mad thinks he looks old and boring and I feel pretty much the same tbh would of preferred someone younger aka David T or Chris Eccleston, I don't see how the chemistry with Clara can continue as it is either I wasn't a fan of Matt Smith and was hoping on an improvement now not hopeful!

Agree with Dexter - I grew up with Pertwee and Baker T; having pretty boy Davison was a bit as the doctor wasn't supposed to be a young blond

An older Doctor is returning to the show's roots, it has only really been the recent series where the Doctor has been younger.

He will be amazing.

I have been boring telling my family all day that it would be PC - I said that it was likely to begin as they seem to like casting actors who have had roles in the show before.

I would love to see him with the the lovely Alex Kingston. I found the love scenes between her and Young Smith a little false. Peter Capaldi is very attractive...

DELIGHTED!! As for him not being 'fit', well quite frankly, I think he's charismatic and rather fanciable. Hugely looking forward to his tenure.

I really liked the dynamic of the Doctor and the Donna Noble character - no romance involved. I would like to think it will return to this formula for a bit, except for with River, obviously.

He's a damn good actor - he will give it a bit of gravitas after the "I'm so wacky" silliness of Matt Smith.

Different generation, we loved Dr Who because it was nice to get any half watchable TV.

There were no sexy makes to appeal to 11-14 year olds.

When I was DD2s age it was the Bay city rollers FFS, even 1D are better than that.

For better or worse sexual attraction and the odd kiss has raised it's head in Dr Who. He's no longer just a mad scientist.

Karen Gillan was in same episode as PC 'the fires of pompeii! she was one of the handmaidens of the priestess.

so glad the docor and DOnna saved him! regeneration AND recycling! seriously im uber overjoyed (calm down dear, its only a tv programme) but DW is a lifelong part of my life and so glad it wasnt a woman etc etc etc and they got someone older and it will change the dynamic it will be brilliant.

totes agree with Dexter. i fancied PD and mcgann but ive never fancied the others mind you i think PC is awesome. and no hes not OLD, just older.

I think the DDs might like a Buffy box set.
By coincidence chillies are my only success this year too.
