I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch him without thinking "Malcolm Tucker" but otherwise it's a good choice - get rid of that tedious sexual tension, at last, plus an end hopefully to plots that involve lots of running around and acrobatics.

I am ridiculously thrilled that it is Peter Capaldi. I adore the chap - I am such a saddo that I even recognised his hands when he was waiting to go on set.

I used to love DW but fell away during the Matt Smith tenure as the storylines were impenetrable and I loathed Amy and Rory, but this news is certainly going to pull me back in again. Fantastic choice.

and im so glad they got someone older this time, it was getting too geeky youngsters (altho i loved them) and too much flirting/snogging with companions!

I think PC will bring a touch of the old fashioned ness retro to DW!

i know the media was flinging his name about but look waht happened last time and then a new face appeared so its a bit of a surprise that they DID go for soemone familiar.

this will be a better relationship with the doc and compainion too! too much lately the companion has saved the day and got more screentime and stuff.

I am failing to see why Peter Capaldi can't do sexual tension as the Doctor - as Oddsocksrus mentioned above, him and River/Alec would be epic.

I remember Martha and him being in it before but when/who was Amy as some people have said she was in it before.

I think Peter Capaldi is an inspired choice! Like the fact that they have gone for an older man this time. I think he'll be brilliant.

I love him and think he'll be a good Doctir BUT I object to people who've been in it before just coming back as someone else. They should have saved him for now. I still think Tom Conti would be good
