The New Doctor?

Or just the trailer for the 50th anniversary episode?

Or something else entirely?

I love Tom Hollander, I'd marry him if he was taller.

RustyBear · 03/08/2013 22:26

IcedCoffeeQueen - have PM'd you about the DW experience.

Nursee007 · 03/08/2013 22:37

Paterson Joseph....that is all!
Having said that, my dad would make an amazing DW....he is an actor, but has sadly never really been recognised enough.

teejwood · 03/08/2013 22:41

When they said the code-name was Houdini I wondered if it was a joke about keeping the new Doctor a secret - and pulling "Who?" rabbit out of a hat at the right time.
Then I wondered if it might be a nod to an actor's previous role, which led me to Colin Morgan.
Much though I think he'd do a good job, he's still too "Merlin" in the eyes of the public - maybe in a few years.
So option 1, then!

MavisGrind · 03/08/2013 22:43

squoosh Grin that the only thing between you becoming mrs Tom Hollander is his height!
God I would love it if it was Ben Wishaw - not that he's in anyway right for the part but they'd be lovely pictures of him everywhere .

teejwood · 03/08/2013 22:49

No to Kris Marshall, please. And no to Chris O'Dowd too, please. I know that is one of the rumours doing the rounds but I'd rather not.

I don't think you need to fancy the Doctor to enjoy the show - as long as the script and plot is good!

teejwood · 03/08/2013 22:49

script and plot are good

squoosh · 03/08/2013 22:49

Yes Mavis, that's what I say to the little scamp when he's biting at my ankles begging me to marry him!

teejwood · 03/08/2013 22:53

Mavis, beg to differ - Wishaw could be an awesome Doctor but I accept it's not going to happen.

More to the point, how was Simm tonight?! I didn't manage to get to see it before the run finished

MavisGrind · 03/08/2013 22:56

Oh squoosh he is a one (laughs affectionately and possibly ruffles someone's hair).

Although it isn't a pre requisite, it does fill up some time fancying Doctor Who. Y'know, the moff has to consider this.

teejwood · 03/08/2013 22:56

Grin at Mrs Hollander. How tall are you, squoosh, would cuban heels or raised soles a la Tom Cruise help t'other Tom get to your preferred level?!

MavisGrind · 03/08/2013 23:02

Aww teej you remembered! Simm was brilliant, as was Simon Russell Beale and the rest of the cast. There was a grown up Dudley Dursley in the cast too but I'm not so up on my HP. Apparently he's Patrick Troughtons nephews so the connections continue... Grin

squoosh · 03/08/2013 23:06

I'm 5'8" tee, and I'm afraid raised soles would Not Be Permitted. The very thought gives me an attack of the vapours. No, I think I'll just have to break it to him gently and redirect my affections in the direction of Ralph Fiennes/Vincent Cassell/Lars Mikkelsen.

teejwood · 03/08/2013 23:16

squoosh, am with you on Lars Mikkelsen - can't wait to see him in Sherlock!!

Mavis - oh, of course - Harry Melling! He's Patrick Troughton's grandson, as is Sam Troughton, both of whom have been mooted as Doctor 12. So you might have been watching Doctor 12 tonight! He's the nephew of David Troughton, though, who was in Midnight. There must be a family obligation to be in Who at some point Grin

MavisGrind · 03/08/2013 23:22

I must admit there are far too many connections between seemingly random events in my viewing choices at the moment. or theatre land is horribly inbred.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/08/2013 23:50

Peter Capaldi. Dr Who should NOT be a young whippersnapper.

PigOnStilts · 04/08/2013 07:10

We want Peter capaldi in a "thick of it" interpretation "get back in that fucking tardis now before I shove it up your arse etc etc"

ceebeegeebies · 04/08/2013 07:21

If you go back to when Matt Smith was named as the Doctor, can you imagine that being done as a live reveal ?? it would have been a massive anti-climax as he was not well known at all so i am assuming that means it is a 'big' name to be able to be worthy of a live reveal.

What about Stephen Mangan? i think he would make a great Doctor

Thurlow · 04/08/2013 07:43

Matt Smith was a live reveal, same 7pm Sunday night show. And everyone went "who?" Though I think betting on him had quadrupled the day before so people had a vague idea.

Tee2072 · 04/08/2013 07:45

No, I bet they are doing the live reveal because of the 50th anniversary. It will never be a big name playing The Doctor.

AlphaBetaOoda · 04/08/2013 08:06

It's got to be someone vaguely recognisable though to make it worthwhile , I guess there will be a show about previous drs, reveal, quick interview then bye bye.

Would love to have it like an awards show with all the actors in the audience waiting to be pulled up on stage

ceebeegeebies · 04/08/2013 08:25

thurlow my apologies, I don't remember a live reveal show for Matt Smith.

Tee2072 · 04/08/2013 08:46

The Matt Smith show wasn't live. At least my husband and I have no memory of it being live!

It was just sort of...announced...

RustyBear · 04/08/2013 09:01

It was a special episode of Doctor Who Confidential - don't think it was live, except possibly the announcement itself (can't remember and I was watching!) - MN thread here on January 3rd 2009.

I see from that thread that William Hill closed the betting early saying it was almost certainly Patterson Joseph - while Betfair carried on, making Matt Smith favourite by lunchtime on the day of the announcement. Just checked Betfair and Peter Capaldi is favourite with them too, Daniel Rigby is 2nd fav.

Thurlow · 04/08/2013 09:06

Oh, sorry, that's what I meant by live, as in it was a big announcement and no one knew anything beforehand. Cross-wires! I meant that as opposed to it just sort of leaking to the papers.

I'd put a LOT of money on it not actually be a big name. Ben Daniels, Rory Kinnear - no one bigger than that.
