Just watched part 2 of Homeland shown on Channel 4 last night.

Fantastic drama with an excellent script, superb acting and lots of twists and turns.

Has he been brainwashed????

It's excellent.
Keep watching - it's at about episode 7 on Irish tv at the mo.
Won't give any spoilers.
Anyway I can't - it's on at 10 on a Friday night, by that stage I'm finding the complexity a bit challenging

lolalotta · 27/02/2012 21:46

I've just seen episode two, I'm hooked already!!!! I tuned in because I loved Claire Danes in "My so called life" (showing my age now Grin) !!!! She's seems to be a bit of a fruit loop in this though! Interesting character! Can't wait until next episode!

SinicalSanta · 27/02/2012 21:53

Me too Lola Grin

I said to DH, hasn't she done well for a girl who used to play truant from Mtahs class to snog Jared Leto. I was SO jealous of the snogging Jared Leto bit still a bit now tbh

Finbar · 27/02/2012 21:53

Oh I wish I could share your enthusiasm - watched the first episode with high expectations and thought it was a pile of doos.....with a script you could drive a tank through.
If the CIA woman is so flaky - how come she even got employed by them in the first place?
If what she heard in the jail about Damian Lewis was even possible - why wouldn't her bosses also believe that he might be a threat and worth watching?
I could go on
BUT I am really going to give it another try because I feel definitely in the minority and it's been nominated for loads of awards.

SinicalSanta · 27/02/2012 21:55

She's not flakey - but she has an MH condition which makes her paranoid. Too paranoid, or just paranoid enough?

spikemomma · 27/02/2012 22:05

Keep watching- I've seen all of them and it's fantastic. I was gripped to the last double episode! Brilliant drama. Claire Danes is excellent in it. Keep watching. Ps. I'm not telling you zip!

FrillyMilly · 28/02/2012 03:28

I can't wait for the next episode!! So many questions. Do you think she blames herself for 9/11?

SaraBellumHertz · 28/02/2012 04:32

Oh god it's awful, started promisingly enough but fuck me it's dull and series 2 doesn't get any better.

Petrean · 28/02/2012 04:51

I'm quite enjoying it, but now I've discovered there's a series 2 I'm a bit disappointed. American dramas like to drag things out too long... Thinking Prison Break and that one with Joseph Fiennes about when everyone passed out for 3 minutes. They had potential for the first 3-4 episodes and then just went on and on and on. And don't even get me started on Lost which was about 3 series' to long!

bettybat · 28/02/2012 10:04

I really, genuinely wanted to love this - so much about it said I should.

But I think I have such terrorism/Middle East/national paranoia/state security/spies topic fatigue that I just can't enjoy it and in fact, find it a little irritating/nauseating.

It's a shame because I can see exactly how compelling and good it is. Would much rather lose myself in something sci fi/fantasy like True Blood or re-watch the Sopranos. I think there is a huge amount of "realism fatigue" going on - it's the same with what should be really awesome murder mysteries like The Killing - I need things less real, more make-believe.

It's similar to what a (very very brilliant) documentary theorised about American horror films. In the sixties and seventies America scared itself - too many horror films were consciously - and also subconsciously - modeling the horrors of real life: a war photographer in Vietnam used his photos of mutilated bodies in Vietnam as the inspiration for the zombie make up in Night of the Living Dead; Wes Craven re-enacted a famous Vietnam scene of person with a gun to their head in Last House on the Left; Halloween is based on the supposition about what people are prepared to intervene in - John Carpenter read a nws story about a girl being attacked in a hotel room - the neighbouring rooms all reported hearing her screams and cries for help but no one did anything. He based the film around the scene of Jamie Lee Curtis running from house to house in her neighbourhood, begging for help and not on neighbour offering her help.

Then in the eighties everything got very unrealistic and fantasy based, schlocky and less mirroring real life - Nightmare on Elm street.

MissPenteuth · 28/02/2012 10:06

I loved it. I won't spoilt the ending Wink

SaraBellum where have you seen S2, I didn't think it had started yet?

MissPenteuth · 28/02/2012 10:07

spoil not spoilt, obv.

diddl · 03/03/2012 08:54

I´ve just watched ep 1 & really enjoyed it.

Couldn´t get on with the Care Danes character though & really hoping that the Damian Lewis character hasn´t been "turned".

What was up with the wife´s wussy boyfriend though?

I mean seriously, her husband has been missing for 8yrs & he hasn´t got the sense to back the fuck off?

SinicalSanta · 03/03/2012 09:58

he's the husband's best friend though.
It would look really suspicious if your best friend suddenly dropped out from your life when you returned miraculously from the dead, wouldn't it?

last night's episode v dramatic - bit too much humping though. It has it's place but it's not exactly nail biting stuff.

noddyholder · 03/03/2012 10:00

It is brilliant. The wife looks very young though to have a teenage daughter.

Fiderer · 03/03/2012 10:27

I really enjoyed it - one of those "just one more episode" series.

I started a thread for those who've seen the whole series.

Don't think they've started filming series 2 yet.

diddl · 03/03/2012 11:25

Oh, yes-I mean quit bugging the wife-especially when the husband can see!

cornsilkalala · 03/03/2012 11:40

really enjoying this...marking my place

SpringHeeledJack · 03/03/2012 15:10

also marking

I like it, tho am a bit Hmm that there's another series. We never ever commit to a series in this house. No, not even one. Not going to tell dp in case he gets anxious and refuses to watch again tomorrow

...just a quick thing, tho, re holes in the script- Damian Lewis seems to be getting less support after his ordeal than Big Brother contestants. And pressure to re-enlist?? after all that?

shorely not?

[baffle]

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/03/2012 20:04

Love it too, can't wait for 9pm Smile

UphillBothWays · 04/03/2012 21:02

Ahh I love Claire Danes so much in this!

corns1ilkidy · 05/03/2012 08:40

who was that bloke buying the house at the end then? why do they need to be near the airport?

MrsKitty · 05/03/2012 08:57

Argh Fiderer, I'm going to have to break my fingers to stop myself from checking out that spoiler thread! Grin

Fiderer · 05/03/2012 09:10

Sorry! I got hooked and was weak Wink

Don't click on it - do not, you will never forgive yourself.

Fiderer · 05/03/2012 09:26

Think I worded the title badly, it's not a "spoiler thread" as such, rather a bleary-eyed "what I thought of Season 1" thread where of course, there are spoilers. Same difference I suppose.

If I had a mentor, I'd want him/her to be just like Saul.
