Just watched part 2 of Homeland shown on Channel 4 last night.

Fantastic drama with an excellent script, superb acting and lots of twists and turns.

Has he been brainwashed????

Ah, it was Wiki I read it on, I didn't spot that the first pilot hadn't been aired. I'd presumed that the first episode was the pilot. Grin

PfftTheMagicDraco · 06/03/2012 12:49

Yes, Laura Fraser (British actress, was in that Single Father thing with David Tennant) was the wife in the pilot.

SinicalSanta · 06/03/2012 13:17

Lizard wife, as DH calls her, seeing as how she was the leader of the lizard aliens in V last year.

YY to gratuitous nudity and sex. Really slows down the narrative in some later episodes.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 06/03/2012 16:36

I don't like the story line that they take later on involving Claire Danes. I read that it changed what they did at the very end of the series (don't want to spoil) regarding Damien Lewis, and I wish they'd done it differently.

Despite this, I do love the show, the Saudi Prince and the necklace stuff was very sad.

IAmSherlocked · 06/03/2012 18:26

DH and I don't reckon the Prince was involved in the killing of the girlfriend; we think the henchman is operating independently.

Agree with those who say that Brody is getting far too little support after what he's been through. And I wish that Carrie wasn't quite so intense and odd. I suppose the point of it is to add doubt about Brody: has he really been turned or is it simply her obsession that is determined to see him as turned?

PfftTheMagicDraco · 06/03/2012 20:12

Later in the series, there is more on Carrie's oddness.

Slartybartfast · 06/03/2012 21:24

WELL WTH HER oddness i spose its so us dont know who to believe, him or her.
and too much nudity, i agree there was an article in guardian yesterday about it, it was an israeli soldier in the original film

Slartybartfast · 06/03/2012 21:26

oops

you will just have to take my word for it Blush

squeaver · 07/03/2012 13:40

Ok I'm back.

to the wanking bit. And again so much unnecessary boobage.

Were we supposed to recognise the couple at the end?

Dh's theory is that he's a triple agent. Pretending to the terrorists that he's been turned and actually going to be the hero that will ultimately stop the terrorist attack. He also thinks there's something significant in the fact that he stopped the camera crew from moving the sofa. Because there's TWO sets of cameras watching them at home - Danes and the baddies checking that he's doing what he's told (and they've also got a camera in the garage so they can see him praying).

Thinks things through, does my dh Hmm

EightToSixer · 07/03/2012 14:03

Oooooh squever. Your DH really is up there for thinking isn't he? I didn't pick that up and I'm a criminologist! I'm liking that idea...triple agent... (that would also mean that I'm still allowed to fancy the pants off appreciate the work of Damien Lewis as a goody). :D

Smellslikecatspee · 07/03/2012 14:21

I like that one too.

My thought was that they had turned him but that now he's home that hold is starting to break.
I did wonder as well if some of the stuff hes doing the twitching fingers, if he actually realises hes doing it.

As for the wife moving on, well from the fact that she broke ties with his partners wife, isn't he called Walker? Anyway the fact that she refused to see Mrs Walker after she moved on suggests that it was only recently that she started to see Brody as not coming back.

I find the praying thing a bit odd too, if hes at home all day alone why isn't he praying more? Isnt it five time a day? he could be doing the middle 2 while everyones out.

I also think the whole big secret that is Carries MH, is going to show people with MH problems as 'nutters' that can't be trusted, I hate that.

valiumredhead · 07/03/2012 15:29

I am hooked! Just watched from the beginning in one hit - having a duvet day.

I think I managed to miss the first part or sky didn't record it - how did they find Damien Lewis or was he just released?

I am pissed off about the MH thing too really smells

SinicalSanta · 07/03/2012 15:31

Your DH is a clever one, squeaver.

SinicalSanta · 07/03/2012 15:33

I thought the point of Carrie's MH issues is that she has to keep it a secret or she'd be booted out of the CIA, and has to get her meds through illicit channels.

As well as the other, too, of course.

valiumredhead · 07/03/2012 15:36

I just think the MH is a bit unnecessary I suppose unless I have missed something.

SinicalSanta · 07/03/2012 15:42

There's quite a bit that's unnecessary about it tbh.
I would think the point they are trying to make is that levels of paranoia that are pathologised in RL are an asset in the CIA. But I guess there's form for using it to portray her as untrustworthy etc.

raininginbaltimore · 07/03/2012 15:57

I like the MH angle. Carrie has same condition as me, and usually we are portrayed as much more unhinged, unable to hold down jobs etc. She works full time, high pressure job. Her symptoms (like hyper-sexuality) are much more realistic than is normally portrayed.

The writer's sister has the MH condition, she based it on that- there was an article in radio times.

I love it.

valiumredhead · 07/03/2012 16:05

Hmmm good point rain and interesting about the writer's sister.

I must've missed the first bit because I didn't see how her condition was introduced into the story line.

LeBOF · 07/03/2012 16:12

How did she ever get into the CIA though? Can that MH condition strike you in adulthood suddenly? And how would she know what it was unless she had been to a doctor?

valiumredhead · 07/03/2012 16:15

Does she have Bi Polar?

Her sister is a doctor and her dad has the same condition, hence her getting her pills from her sister.

raininginbaltimore · 07/03/2012 16:16

In fact it generally does start in mid to late 20s. I was 28 when diagnosed. In the convo with her sister she mentions the dad has same, and sister is a doctor so would have recognised symptoms.

LeBOF · 07/03/2012 16:16

Surely they have extensive psych tests though, family medical history etc?

LeBOF · 07/03/2012 16:17

Also, , I can't see anything wrong with her. She's a lot like me actually.

RedBlanket · 07/03/2012 16:22

I like it although too much shagging and naked women.

Squeaver - I shall pinch that theory and present to DH as all my own work.

valiumredhead · 07/03/2012 16:24

I quite like the shagging and naked women Grin
