Just watched part 2 of Homeland shown on Channel 4 last night.

Fantastic drama with an excellent script, superb acting and lots of twists and turns.

Has he been brainwashed????

Oh don't remove it - that would be like a red rag to a bull. If it's gone, then I'll just end up searching stuff out - If it's there then I can just know it's there and exercise self control (Or break fingers...)

Perhaps I will suggest to DH that we probably don't have to wait for C4 every week... Wink

Fiderer · 05/03/2012 09:58

It's worth waiting for. Resist!

I'd seen Homeland mentioned on a couple of "what DVD boxset to watch?" threads and didn't realise it's only now being shown on UK TV (am not in UK). Might have been a bit more careful with the timing of my thread if I'd known/thought about it more.

Grin at SpringHeeledJack never committing to a series and not wanting her dp to get anxious.

yy to the lack of support for the whole family when Brody came back.

willali · 05/03/2012 13:01

I think the house purchase thing at the end goes like this...

The Saudi Prince (or his right hand man) needed to get some funds to the US to a sleeper cell or some such. But instead of doing it the obvious internet banky way, he gave his girlfriend / chief hooker the splendiferous necklace. She was then bumped off, the necklace stolen and pawned for cash which could then be passed on to the nice young couple near the airport without being able to trace back to the Saudi Prince / henchman.

Smellslikecatspee · 05/03/2012 13:28

I haven't seen the spoiler thread though my sibs in Ireland have been raving about this.

One thing that gets me though (i know it's only TV etc) how little support Brody is getting, from anyone...........

I mean if your husband had just come back after 8 years you'd take more that a day or two off work/school. . . And surely intensive therapy.

Oh and I would assume that him being 'turned' should have been in the CIAs mind from the minute they found him, with or without the 'tip'.

I know I know I'm hole picking, but it is good

Slartybartfast · 05/03/2012 19:21

last night was terrible while he wanked himself off Shock

and there was me suggesting my ds see it Shock Blush

Slartybartfast · 05/03/2012 19:22

and i agree, where is his support

noddyholder · 05/03/2012 19:23

I really enjoyed it but the wanking scene was awful Sad I like teh daughter good actress

PfftTheMagicDraco · 05/03/2012 19:23

Sara - there isn't a series 2!

redlac · 05/03/2012 19:25

Season 2 hasn't even started yet!

The final double episode is so fantastic - enjoy it!

LeBOF · 05/03/2012 19:34

I really like it- last night's was so tense, I was literally on the edge of my seat. The wanking scene was painful to watch, but important, I think, as it showed the gulf between him and his wife; you can really see how it must be almost impossible to hold a marriage together after that sort of trauma.

c0rn51lkad · 05/03/2012 19:38

I wondered whether that scene perhaps hinted at him having being influenced by the Taliban with respect to his view of women.

LeBOF · 05/03/2012 19:51

I read it more as him just having become so accustomed to solitary and disconnected sexual release. She was offering him tenderness and intimacy, but he can't cope with that any more. Your interpretation fits too though.

Slartybartfast · 05/03/2012 19:58

but wouldnt it be natural that she would have moved on after 8 years?

c0rn51lkad · 05/03/2012 20:00

quite slarty...she thought he was dead.

c0rn51lkad · 05/03/2012 20:00

she's too nice for him I reckon

noddyholder · 05/03/2012 21:02

I thought it was because he would have shifted his views on her because of his new religion and the fact that she has slept with another man.

squeaver · 05/03/2012 21:40

Have just skim-read as I've only seen 2 episodes, but will probably be back on here tomorrow night...

So am loving it so far but.....

  • Wifey is too young and beautiful
  • Don't like the nature of Danes' psychosis. I mean can't she just be a bit disturbed without having to be a slut?
  • Too much gratuitous nudity (like Boardwalk Empire in that respect). And all female, except Damo's bum
  • Surely the Marines would have given him a media minder person?? And a psychiatrist, or at least a bit of counselling..??

Anyway, I'll be back after I've seen episode 3.

squeaver · 05/03/2012 22:09

Also, I am extremely fearful for the poor girlfriend of the Saudi Prince.

Bue · 05/03/2012 23:27

I don't think Prince what's-his-chops was actually involved, was he? The way DH and I interpreted it was that the gift of the necklace was genuine, but the evil bodyguard saw it as cash for the sleeper cell (or whatever) and that's why poor Lynne got the bullet.

I am wanting to love this series but I am only liking it. The family I find kind of boring (and not nearly dysfunctional enough for the trauma they're going through) but Claire Danes and the CIA/surveillance stuff is brilliant.

Also far too much nudity that serves no purpose. Do we really need two pairs of boobs per episode? Oh, and the actress who plays Jessica (the mother) is 32, fgs. Just ridiculous casting.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/03/2012 23:33

Did anyone notice that the wife changed between episode one and two? As in different actress. Because I didn't, I thought her hair was slightly different but then read it's a different person.

LeBOF · 05/03/2012 23:43

Really? Wow, no, I didn't spot that.

Bue · 06/03/2012 10:14

Viva, where did you read that? It's definitely the same actress, it says she was in the pilot episode on her filmography: www.imdb.com/name/nm1072555/filmoyear.

Bue · 06/03/2012 10:15

oops

Morena Baccarin filmography

MrsKitty · 06/03/2012 10:22

According to Wiki there was a different actress originally cast as the wife 35 y/o so a bit more believable) who filmed a pilot which was then unaired, and therefore presumably reshot with the new actress, which is why no one spotted the swap, because there wasn't a swap to see IYSWIM.

MrsKitty · 06/03/2012 10:25

And I'd like to congratulate myself on extreme self control as I went on wiki just to find out about this actress swap and was very strict about scrolling straight down to xasting, without even taking a quick glance at the series synopsis!
