Just watched part 2 of Homeland shown on Channel 4 last night.

Fantastic drama with an excellent script, superb acting and lots of twists and turns.

Has he been brainwashed????

OP posts:

Yes he knew there was something, but there was no reason for him to think that Brody was involved-I think that that was why he didn´t believe Carrie & had her taken away.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 07/05/2012 23:37

I think he had carrie taken away for her own protection/preservation if he had let her go to Estes or whoever with her theory and everything went as it did it would have made er look even crazier/obsessed with Brody. I think he was just trying to limit more damage by keeping her away.

cocolepew · 08/05/2012 13:28

Right I've been thinking about this all the bloody time and I'm sorry to say I am still wondering about Saul.

He blows hot and cold with Carrie. I think he siced the SS onto her to get rid of her at the pow wow.

I hope I'm wrong Sad

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/05/2012 10:00

diddl, why didn´t he just tell her about the time that Nazir went silent-that surely was also a giveaway?*

A giveaway about what?

I am very Confused

I still kind of think Saul is a bad lot. He seems too central a character and to be present at too many important moments/too close to Carrie to just be a goodie. If that makes any sense.

I also have a RAGING crush on him. It's been simmering for some time but now ? hubba hubba. Grin

diddl · 09/05/2012 10:30

A giveaway that he was a terrorist was what I was thinking-otherwise why not tell Carrie about Issa´s death?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/05/2012 11:22

I can't remember ? did Brody tell Carrie about Abu Nazir at all?

IShallWearMidnight · 09/05/2012 11:26

yes, at the cabin. He told her he loved him.

chicaguapa · 09/05/2012 13:48

I thought Brody was saying he loved Issa (who he pretended was a guard)? Will have to rewatch it.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/05/2012 14:33

I thought he told her he loved his guard 'Issa' too ...

Fuck. Have to watch it again.

letseatgrandma · 09/05/2012 14:54

I've just realised Saul was in the Princess Bride!!

limitedperiodonly · 09/05/2012 15:01

When Saul confronted the VP, or maybe it was Estes, he said that Nazir knew the VP had ordered the strike.

But how did he know? I think Saul told him and is the mole. I think that's why he had Carrie arrested so Brody would have time to blow the VP up.

But I could be wrong...

Who made the second chalk mark on the wall and why? If everything had gone ahead as planned Brody wouldn't be coming back to get the chip so there'd be no need to make a mark to say it had been picked up.

I thought Brody left the mark just to show the person collecting the chip where to look.

Did Saul tell Carrie who Issa really was? I can't remember either.

Good though, weren't it?

limitedperiodonly · 09/05/2012 15:03

Oh yes, letseatgrandma.

For a very long time I thought Mandy Patinkin was a girl and tried to work out who 'she' was in the Princess Bride.

jaffacakesrock · 09/05/2012 16:10

Where was Saul's partner from?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/05/2012 16:11

India I think. It crossed my mind that she might be more involved than just an estranged (estranging?) wife. Although realistically I can't for the life of me think how. Grin

BrightnessFalls · 09/05/2012 19:16

I cant decide if Im satisfied by that ending or not Sad Maybe I was tired but, it didnt keep me on the edge of my seat. Probably because I knew he wouldnt get killed off, that spoilt it.

I hope it wont turn into another 24, that went on far too long although I loved it

ifancyashandy · 09/05/2012 20:44

Ooh, I thought Body marked the wall so he knew where to go back to but of course that's not the case - Body assumed he'd have blown himself up in the bunker! He left the mark for his cohort (whoever that may be!)

Unless... unless, he did leave the mark for himself in case of error / bottling the job?!

limitedperiodonly · 10/05/2012 09:20

Now I'm thinking that maybe Saul wasn't the mole because he tried to stop Carrie's treatment and said he wanted her to keep her memory and he knew that she'd never let Brody alone.

Or maybe it was a cunning ruse to throw me off the scent.

Yes, it spoiled it for me too that I knew Damien Lewis was in a second series.

The producers could have attempted an embargo, they're not perfect but they do work with other things. In the first series of 24 they filmed 3 endings and the cast members claimed in interviews to publicise the finale not to know which would be shown.

If anyone did know they didn't tell for contractual reasons. A major character in a later series was killed off (very dramatic it was too) because of a plot leak - not from him - which seems harsh punishment Grin.

But then 24 was filmed almost week by week so it was possible to change things and keep people guessing.

I think the producers of Homeland and other things are so desperate for the publicity that can mean whether a series gets recommissioned by the studio or dropped, everyone ignores that what makes people fans of shows in the first place is suspense.

Then again, many people don't mind spoilers or actually want them.

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 10/05/2012 11:39

I couldn't work out why Carrie was initially taking Clozapine (Clozaril) a newer atypical antipsychotic for her Bi Polar when it is so important to have regular blood tests when taking this drug. It can cause serious deficiencies in white blood cell production and because of this, we have a 'traffic light' system
whereby a 'green for go' result is needed for continued prescription, amber means more bloods needed to continue prescribing and red obviously means it is having detrimental effects. I realise she took it secretly but surely her sister who obtained it (was she a pharmacist or doctor) would know of this serious contraindication?

It is not the most obvious drug of choice for this condition either.

nameuschangeus · 10/05/2012 11:53

I lurved it and will be bereft on a Sunday night from now on.

Carrie's beep at the end was because (I'm sure) they said her treatment would jolt her heart and it would restart. Or am I just deluded?

I loved it all and was not disappointed by the end one little bit.

On the who is the most fanciable front I just cannot choose between Brodie, Carrie and the fella who Brodie's missus was shagging! All or any of these would be acceptable!

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 10/05/2012 16:21

MECT is not supposed to stop the heart. If it does, somebody has screwed up.

The cliff hanger is will the short term memory loss associated with Carrie's MECT cause her to forget that Brodie knew Nassir's son? He called Assa's name out in a night mare during their night together.

They sadly went for the dramatic but less accurate depiction of MECT. I have been the intra procedural nurse on many occasions during MECT. Rarely have I seen patients gurn to the degree that Carrie did. We usually just uncover the hands and feet so as to clearly identify the length of fit by the very slight contractions of the muscles in them. It is not always clear that a 'good' fit has been produced. We count in seconds, the duration of the contractions. Some research disputes whether we need to do this.

I.V muscle relaxants tend to prevent grimacing and flailing. In the past, patients needed to be held down by up to 4 attendants due to their violent convulsions and there were frequent muscular-skeletal injuries. Anaesthesia was not used either.

I am not in favour of MECT BTW because we do not know exactly how it works and the memory loss, for me, is too high a price to pay for many patients. It can and has worked dramatically well in some cases of severe-intractable or severe-acute depressive episodes but in so many cases, we do not see that.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/05/2012 16:41

Carrie will get back her memory of Brody and Aisa, won't she? I suspect it will be one of the big 'hooks' of the series; they made a big deal of her having the flash of revelation and her sister saying 'What did she say?' to signpost that it's important. It will be tense and frustrating; we the viewers know something she doesn't.

Can't wait!!
And am still in love with Saul, mole or not.

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 10/05/2012 17:12

LadyClarice
Am trying very hard not to find out what happens in Series 2. I weakened and found out what the last episode held and regretted it.

LeBOF · 10/05/2012 17:15

I don't think they've even filmed it yet, have they?

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 10/05/2012 19:15

I'm not sure, LeBof. I think Lewis is in North Carolina (where it is filmed) now with his family.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 11/05/2012 16:33

Atree, we can be strong together or try to, at least
