Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

Oh, what tension!

  • will Troels resign?
  • what will Theis and sinister Vagn do with Kemal?
  • will poor old Bengt be OK?

Did Theis kill that guy in the past or just beat him up badly? Vagn was obviously there. He's very creepy.

Vang looks shifty and keen to put blame don't really trust him

Lizzylou · 13/02/2011 11:40

We love this, DH reckons Vagn did it as well.

I think it is more likely that Lund and Troels will be "getting together".

Interesting that while Sarah Lund's instinct was right initially on the two boys, now Meyer is getting into his stride and it looks like he was right about Kemal - although he had been lying, he still wasn't the one. Lund was thrown by that.

"where the bloke from the Turkish restaurant fits into all this?"

  • he owns the apartment that Theis and Pernille are renting. As far as I remember, Theis gave notice (because he'd bought the house) but had to negotiate retracting that because of the murder and Pernille not wanting to leave their flat / move into the house?

I'm loving following this discussion and the theories :) it's like seeing from scratch again.

Vagn is a horrible character - in Danish he comes out with a few very racist comments. The nerd in me is curious how they've translated this into English. Is he an obviously racist creepy twat or just a creepy twat?

sfxmum · 13/02/2011 14:27

Vang does come across as racist and he is not the only one
I think it is right that he seems weak
who was is contact again?

I like the police dynamics and the politics of it
also we seem to get information slowly as if in real life but it may well mean that some particularly important clue/s have been spread out and it will all only click later

muminlondon · 13/02/2011 14:27

Just creepy at the moment. Some hint that he had a crush on Nanna. And that he is keen to get rid of Kemal which looks a bit fishy.

Agree not Vagn, he's well dodgy, but the whole crime as described is too 'clever' and well executed, not his style. I think it is someone we either haven't met yet, or has not been a focus - could be totally wrong of course and could turn out to be the politician :)
Loving it too - I do my double dose on a Sunday...fab way to start the day!

Phonics · 14/02/2011 09:39

Why did Lund let her guard down and be so bold with he view Kemal was guilty?
not like her.....it set lots of hares running

sfxmum · 14/02/2011 09:41

I think the idea of guilty came from her certainty that he was lying and hiding something, which he was

Anonymousbird · 15/02/2011 13:00

I have the whole series so far saved on Sky Plus, dying to watch it, but DH can't face the subtitles!!!!

AAAGGGHHH. Basically don't really have any time when I am "home alone" with the chance to watch...

May just have to put it on, and DH lump it, as cannot wait much longer to see it....

Phonics · 15/02/2011 16:57

The subtitle issue just fades away as you watch -promise!

Anonymousbird · 15/02/2011 17:19

THAT's what I have said to him, that it will just work.

Hmmm Might try again tonight!

Dying to see it, everyone raves about it and I just love this type of programme.

muminlondon · 19/02/2011 14:36

You could show him the trailer in English.

I found a trailer for the US remake but it just doesn't seem to capture the atmosphere or political intrigue...

(they've copied her jumper though)

Ooh only three hours to go til tonight's episodes!

teej · 19/02/2011 22:58

Well....
you know when you give an hour to a telly programme and afterwards you feel the emotional/mental equivalent of having eaten a macdonalds?
this is 3 course michelin starred every week.....

smugmumofboys · 19/02/2011 23:03

It is fabulous. I am going to struggle to wait for next week's episode.

It's all just bloody brilliant - the acting, the lighting, everything.

Don't think Danish sounds as nice as Swedish though.

TheFarSide · 19/02/2011 23:07

Am I right in thinking there are 10 more episodes ... ? So it can't be the lovely Troels?

Ponders · 19/02/2011 23:10

Danish is the most blahblahblah language I've ever heard on a subtitled film - it's not even possible to pick out someone's name in what they say Confused (unless the subtitles are out of synch with the dialogue...Grin)

Finbar · 19/02/2011 23:16

OMG it can't be HIM!!!
(see how I avoided a spoiler? If you know what I'm talking about from tonight's episodes, then join in now!)
