The Killing - latest Eurocrime from BBC4

Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

The Killing was amazing - excellent acting, script and characterisation. I shall be glued to BBC4 every Saturday for the next 10 weeks. My take on it: j.mp/g8rwN3

horseyrider · 29/01/2011 17:28

I enjoyed this as I am into Scandinavian stuff at the moment, enjoy Wallander and am currently reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" as well.

Loved episodes 3 +4. Parts of it were really heartbreaking, eg when the parents saw the post mortem photoes of their daughter.
This is my 'must see' programme now.

MadAsASnakeNana · 30/01/2011 23:58

Best thing I've seen since the Sopranos. Grown up TV at last. Found it very hard to watch Nanna's family try to come to terms with her murder.

muminlondon · 31/01/2011 19:02

Caught up with 3 and 4 on iplayer. Wow, more shifty suspects! Did the PA frame Morten with a fake email? What did those 2 boys get up to exactly?

And why did Sarah Lund need to call Jan Meyer (new baby heard in background) in the middle of the night? Maybe they do get on, then.

The other fab Eurocrime series I've watched is Spiral - waiting for BBC to show series 3.

Loving this too - seen first two episodes. Can anyone say how many episodes this particular case lasts? It sounds like 3 and 4 are continuing the same case (just need to pace myself Smile )

UpSinceCrapOClock · 31/01/2011 21:03

Clangermum - the same case actually lasts over the 20 episodes. They really play with the audience too...

Finbar · 31/01/2011 21:06

The background music for the sad bits is totally heart breaking - very atmospheric. I have got to try and find out what it is.

UpSinceCrapOClock · 31/01/2011 21:10

muminlondon - I had to google Spiral - sounds good although unfortunately I couldn't find it anywhere on Danish tv.

I am, however, enjoying Life on Mars (as saw a bit of Ashes to Ashes last year in the UK and really enjoyed it) so I do have a weekly series to enjoy at least!

muminlondon · 31/01/2011 21:44

The BBC sell DVDs of series 1 & 2 of Spiral (Engrenages). It contains the gorgeous Gregory Fitoussi.

Loved Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.

Just remembered another Danish series I watched years back - The Kingdom, totally strange but compelling, supernatural/comic, set in a hospital.

Thanks UpSince - I was hoping you'd say that, to keep one story going over that many episodes is really impressive

loving the music too Finbar

UpSinceCrapOClock · 31/01/2011 21:50

Ooh yes - Lars Von Trier. I actually watched that when pg with dd and gave birth to her in that very hospital. Can remember going up to the maternity bit in the lift when in labour and all I could think about was that bloody series :o (nothing spooky happened while I was there btw!)

Hmm, might have to look out for that French series when I am next in the UK then - will keep an eye out on them showing it here too.

UpSinceCrapOClock · 31/01/2011 21:51

It is impressive - even more so because they keep you guessing pretty much til the end!

notyummy · 01/02/2011 20:18

Anyone think that the guy who works fit Nannas dad us bit fishy? Always hanging around etc? Hmmmmm....

muminlondon · 01/02/2011 22:44

Yes! Another shifty character. Maybe he bought the boots?!

OP posts:
teej · 05/02/2011 23:00

oh! i didn't realise we had a thread on this already!

anyone watch it tonight?
terribly convenient that rama looks like suspect #1. in agatha christie that normally screams "RED HERRING"!!!
hope daddy larssen doesn't do anything he'll later regret, before the plods get to him...

muminlondon · 06/02/2011 00:41

And Sarah Lund is never going to get to Sweden!

Is Jan Meyer another Scandinavian cop with diabetes by the way? What's with the medication and bananas?

OP posts:
Highlander · 06/02/2011 11:53

I reckon Rama is clean, but I think the Arab landlord is his dad and is a drug baron and that Nanna's dad was somehow previously mixed up in it.

could be that the Ether and the tags were planted in Rama's house.

Nanna is quite a bit older than the wee boys - was Pernille in a relationship before she married again?

The PA is very manipulative..........

I'm still betting Jan gets it on with Lund.

This is FAB, and still 16 episodes to go!!

Highlander · 06/02/2011 11:56

The way they filmed the paretns waiting to see Nanna's body was amazing, heartbreaking

idlingabout · 06/02/2011 13:23

Another fan here. Am having to adjust my antennae for spotting the real baddie as this is such a long series compared to what we are used to.Also there is the parallel plitical intrigue.
I too think something dodgy will be revealed about Vajn(sp?) - the one who works for Theis. I think it is likely we havent met the killer yet though. I havent been wondering about Lund and Meyer but have wondered whether if Hartmanns PA turns out to be the mole` that Hartmann and Lund could end up together in some way.

Finbar · 06/02/2011 18:53

Highlander - I cried throughout that scene - just so very moving.

I think Lund can say goodbye to her polar pine sauna.

Blackduck · 06/02/2011 22:31

She's still wearing the jumper that got sliced through - doesn't she own any other clothes!! And I think forget her and Jan what about her and the politician!!

Finbar · 07/02/2011 07:34

Why haven't they traced where those hideous (Versace?)boots were bought? - there can't be many shops that sold them

Highlander · 07/02/2011 14:23

ooh, I forgot about the politician for Lund Grin

Finbar - PMSL about the sauna!

DaisySteiner · 07/02/2011 22:09

Just came on to see if anyone else was watching this! I think it's brilliant, I am totally hooked and got all excited on Saturday morning because I hadn't got long to wait til the next episodes! I forget that it's subtitled in Danish until I look away from the TV and realise I can't understand what's happening, lol.

Does it remind anybody else of Twin Peaks just a leetle tiny bit?!
