When did you lose your virginity?

My DD 14 is very sensible and whilst I'm not worried about her, a conversation we had this morning shocked me!
Talking about having sex and the age most people lose their virginities. We talk about 16 as age of consent in UK before she tells me that lots of girls in her year at school (Y9) have already had sex, some even doing it in Y8. DD said most of the girls were pleased to have 'got it out the way'! DD said she was not ready and that was fine too (phew!)
I lost my virginity at 16 and thought that was quite average, I had no regrets. It got me thinking though, what age did you 'lose it' and did you regret it being at that age?

26 and really, really glad I waited.

Sprinkles32 · 30/10/2021 17:34
  1. Thought it was cool at the time but I look back and wish I’d have waited
OldTinHat · 30/10/2021 17:35

19

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 30/10/2021 17:35

14 and no I don't regret it

Peoniesandpeaches · 30/10/2021 17:37

@Embroidery

I never get these threads. Why is Prince Andrew cancelled for putting his arm around a 17yo as a 22yo, in a culture when 14yos are still now sexually active and certainly everyone was by 17yo back then. Most women now 35+ were sexually active from 14yo. I do think its too early esp nowadays, but dont get the double standard. Is 17yos having sex a crime, or not?
Well that’s just not true. The national average age for losing your virginity has been increasing for the past 15-20 years and now stands at around 18.3. Also he’s accused of having sex with someone who had been trafficked and therefore had no real power to consent but just you get on your soapbox about poor wee Andrew.

21 with a chap and 23 with a woman.

Lalliella · 30/10/2021 17:40

I bet a lot of the girls at her school are lying.

vdbfamily · 30/10/2021 17:45

I was 33 and it was my wedding night. Still together nearly 20 years later. I was also his first and neither of us have any regrets about that. The thought of children of 13 and 14 having sex horrifies me to be honest. But then, as you might gather, I have very traditional views and would hope my kids were in committed relationships before having sex.

kit47 · 30/10/2021 17:49

@Lalliella yes I think so. We often discuss 'gossip' and how people exaggerate things so think DD is aware. Some of the girls are close friends though and don't think they are lying but, who knows with 13/14year olds! As I said I'm not worried, this is more of a thread for general interest rather than advice or anything 😊 x

14 and no regrets, was fully ready and certainly not coerced.

Fneep · 30/10/2021 17:53

19 for a bit of fumbling.
Properly at 21.

Hotelhelp · 30/10/2021 17:53

13 I think. I definitely regret it. It wasn’t rape per se but definitely… questionable.

OverByYer · 30/10/2021 17:55

I was 16, he was 18. Both virgins and in a LTR, I probably couldn’t have had a nicer experience. We split up 2 years later but it was a lovely time in my life.

AliMonkey · 30/10/2021 17:56

20 and wish I hadn't as looking back I did it because I was under pressure (from on/off boyfriend of two years who even then I knew wasn't someone I wanted to be with long term).

Newsham · 30/10/2021 17:58

I was 12, the boy was 15 and somebody I was 'going out with'

I regret it massively, I felt somewhat under pressure to be cool and impress him. I thought I was ready at the time but was definitely not. It set me off down a destructive path of teenage promiscuity that I'm bitterly ashamed of and still feel the effects of today.

kit47 · 30/10/2021 18:00

@Newsham I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're ok ❤️

13 nearly 14 with my first girlfriend, we were only together for a few months and tbh I do regret it and didn't have sex again until I was 16 in a longer relationship.

MyBestFriendKenny · 30/10/2021 18:01

A week before I turned 18, with my lovely then boyfriend. We'd been together for about five months. No regrets at all.

mrsevangelina · 30/10/2021 18:12

I was in my early twenties. I felt like it was extremely late, and at school I felt like everyone was having sex. I've since realised that lots of the 'truth or dare' game confessions at age 13-14 were exaggerations or lies to fit in.

I don't regret waiting - I think more people do wait than will confess in general company, tbh. A few of my close friends were also in their early twenties.

kit47 · 30/10/2021 18:28

@mrsevangelina totally agree. Lots of my friends didn't lose their virginities until 20s. Some were 28/29. It's not a big deal unless it is personally to the person.
