When did you lose your virginity?

My DD 14 is very sensible and whilst I'm not worried about her, a conversation we had this morning shocked me!
Talking about having sex and the age most people lose their virginities. We talk about 16 as age of consent in UK before she tells me that lots of girls in her year at school (Y9) have already had sex, some even doing it in Y8. DD said most of the girls were pleased to have 'got it out the way'! DD said she was not ready and that was fine too (phew!)
I lost my virginity at 16 and thought that was quite average, I had no regrets. It got me thinking though, what age did you 'lose it' and did you regret it being at that age?

18, in my first term at university. This was pretty normal in my peer group, this was in the late 1980s.

@TrussOnABus totally agree. Parents need to respect their teenagers boundaries. It's really hard sometimes because sometimes I just want to ask DD (and DS 16) questions but know they would be intrusive and if they want to tell me, they will. But that doesn't stop me wanting to know sometimes haha!

19 and glad I didn't give in to peer pressure

TrussOnABus · 30/10/2021 16:41

Oh and if we're talking about embarrassing stories...I kept the condom wrapper and stuck it in my scrapbook Blush

Late 16 but was ready a year earlier but couldn't find anyone suitable. Dh was 14 which I think is really young.

kit47 · 30/10/2021 16:46

@Whataday21 I remember feeling ready at about my 15th birthday but didn't have a boyfriend and went to an all girls school so options were limited haha!
One of my ex boyfriends lost his virginity at 11! I remember being shocked when I found out.

Couldn't wait to lose mine at 16. Met 'the right' boy at 15. Thought about doing it. Decided to wait until 16 and by then I was with definitely NOT 'the right boy'. I regret missing out on the first time being with the loveliest boy, in a nice relationship, at a time I felt ready because of the supposed rule about waiting until 16.

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/10/2021 16:51

@kit47 I still have nightmares of her boobs either side of my head as he pumped away!!

Youdonthavetobegood · 30/10/2021 16:51

22! Pretty late, thought it would never happen. He's my husband now so I guess I was (unintentionally) waiting for the right one

kit47 · 30/10/2021 16:54

@Pieceofpurplesky choked on my tea reading that 😂

1 month before my 21st, ended up marrying him.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 30/10/2021 16:57

13, very close to 14. I was certainly ready, not pressured and despite what some posters will no doubt go on to say about starting your sexual activity early, I didn’t have a bad upbringing or have any lasting consequences. I wouldn’t change it. I certainly wouldn’t encourage anyone to go for it, it’s all about when you’re ready and with the right person (hopefully).

Pinkdelight3 · 30/10/2021 16:57

13 and fine with it, wasn't delightful but no regrets. Equally glad I don't have daughters cos no doubt I wouldn't want them doing it at that age.

kit47 · 30/10/2021 16:57

@Ritasueandbobtoo9 that's brilliant!

I was 18, we’d been together 5 months. Still with him 34 years later

x-post with @SmallPrawnEnergy and feel exactly the same.
