Dd (13) has been asking for months to get her hair cut short -this has been a considered decision

Went yesterday to get it done and she hates it

The tears started about half an hour after she got home and haven't stopped

She's now saying she's not leaving the house, has cancelled plans to see friends, doesn't want anyone looking at her -its too short to tie up so I've no suggestions for her really

It actually looks really nice but she can't see that

What the hell do I do?

Oh gosh OP. From one parent of a teenage girl to another Flowers. You have handled this beautifully.

Tell DD the popular girls were NEVER going to say anything nice - no matter how awesome it looks. That's the way they operate.

Re teenaged girls and short hair

Last time was at the hairdressers , I was discussing possible styles for my teenaged daughter with my hairdresser. I commented on one of the trainee hairdressers short hair style, saying it was lovely and would suit my DD

" ah but she's a lesbian " says my hairdresser ( who is a 30 year old gay man )

I Looked like this Shock and asked what that had to do with it . He assured me that it's definitely a lesbian " thing " among teenaged girls .

So make of that what you will .

I've just had a 'short for me' hair cut, gone from below my shoulders to well above. I would cry but if I do it takes me face 3 days at least to recover these daysHmm

Try googling something like 'fashion for women with cropped hair' or search for celebrities she knows with short hair, and experiment both with the hair but also with clothes

My grandma had my waist length hair cut into a super short pixie cut, when I was 12,barely a inch long. I cried just before the cut started until I fell asleep that night.when I woke up I thought I had a nightmare, until my hands automatically went to my head.i think the tears started as I ran to the bathroom.i couldn't even grab a hold of my hair, and when I got the first look than at my haircut the years of the sun bleached hair was all gone.my hair was much darker, and really didn't look boyish at all, but it sure felt that way.but anyways the longest my hair ever got was to the bottom of my neck in a Bob cut, never kept the same hairstyle for more than a year I think..,I loved changing it, when I got out of highschool, loved changing the color, and still the style, mostly bob's, mushroom shaped styles, wedge cuts, and yes short feathered cuts, and short cropped pixies.i've worn alot of wigs over the years just when I feel a bit sassy on the spur of the moment and recently retired as a hairdresser after 40 years, well almost.my word to you,Wear Ur Hair With Confidence,Head Held High, Have Fun With It
