Is the tattoo really that bad?

Got my first tattoo a few months back and was really pleased with it. Just posted it on reddit (first mistake I know) and everyone's saying it's awful

I am not a fan sorry! But if you like it then that is all that matters, why do you care what people on Reddit and mumsnet think?

Unsuretattoo · 30/06/2022 13:08

I don't know really I only posted it on reddit because I wanted suggestions on what to add to make it a full sleeve. Do you not like it because of the style or is it done badly?

Where was it done op? Do you know much about the artist?

It's not in a style that is used a lot at the moment, neo-trad or fine line botanicals etc.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 30/06/2022 13:09

Personally I think it looks a bit old school, but not in a bad way. I know this is a trend in the tattoo industry and many artists are specialising in a twist on traditional tattoos.

The skull looks really neat but the snake looks slightly different? Almost more cartoony? Almost like they were done by different people.

I certainly wouldn't say it was bad though.

Justmuddlingalong · 30/06/2022 13:09

Do you like it?

gabagoulghost · 30/06/2022 13:11

I'm going to be completely honest op.

If you want to have it developed into a full sleeve in this style, then I would find a different better artist that does colour realism style, and that would be able to rework this into a sleeve.

The artist that did this is not very good. Some of the lines are not very clean, and the shading looks patchy.

The snake/skull is an acquired taste, that's fine, but it could be done much better. A good artist could also tidy up the lines and shading that you've already had done.

knittingaddict · 30/06/2022 13:11

Ok, you've asked op and I don't want to be cruel, but I think it's awful. My adult children have tattoos, so I'm not particularly anti tattoo, but I really dislike it.

Auntieobem · 30/06/2022 13:11

The snake looks a bit odd to me, but it's OK and certainly better than a ubiquitous butterfly

gwenneh · 30/06/2022 13:12

This. Subject matter is subjective. The execution, however, is poor.

Hugasauras · 30/06/2022 13:12

It's not to my taste and lacks a certain sharpness, but tattoos are very personal and obviously you like the design or you wouldn't have picked it! If people on Reddit hadn't said anything, how would you feel about it?

MolliciousIntent · 30/06/2022 13:12

If we're being totally honest, it just looks a bit cheap. The art isn't particularly sophisticated, there isn't any obvious theme, and it doesn't appear particularly well done.

Also as PP said, full-colour work is quite old-fashioned now and tends to age badly.

Unsuretattoo · 30/06/2022 13:12

It was done in the UK why should it matter if its not a style done at the moment, in 10 years the styles being done now won't be popular. Not saying that's what you think but just in general.

Only opinion that matters is yours. It's on your skin

I have to agree it’s badly done. The colours are not great. But if you love it who cares what other think. It’s not for them.

cushioncovers · 30/06/2022 13:14

It's ok but nothing special but as long as you like it don't worry about it

OneEyedPenguin · 30/06/2022 13:15

I think it just needs a good artist to sort out some of the shading and lines.

I didn't even realise that it was a snake. Looked a bit like some of the dinosaur pictures in my grandson's books.

Did you look at reviews for the artist? I know my children have been very picky about who they use.

Georgeskitchen · 30/06/2022 13:16

I'm not really a fan of tattoos but each to their own, and if you like it that's all that matters x

Unsuretattoo · 30/06/2022 13:16

I looked at the reviews and they where all positive

That is exactly the problem with tattoos - tastes and styles changed and you finish up with something you no longer want.

SirenSays · 30/06/2022 13:17

Aw OP I'm sorry but I agree that it's badly done. The problem is most other artists will turn you away because they won't want their name on it, they'll likely tell you to go back to the original artist so they can fix it.

Anyfeckinusername · 30/06/2022 13:18

I thought it was a skull and a dinosaur head and some algae?

gabagoulghost · 30/06/2022 13:18

What was their day rate op?

BruisedSkies · 30/06/2022 13:19

It’s not a style I like, but that’s not a problem. Main thing is that it looks a bit like when you colour in a drawing with a felt tip that’s running out. Was that the style you wanted? If so, awesome! But if not, then I’d want someone to go over the colour again.
