Is the tattoo really that bad?

Got my first tattoo a few months back and was really pleased with it. Just posted it on reddit (first mistake I know) and everyone's saying it's awful

T Rex head, but as long as you like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep, a tattooist I go to in London is £780 a day.

Yes. Mine charges 500 a day and she is the junior artist in that studio.

Style is personal choice but this is very badly executed.

Pipsquiggle · 30/06/2022 15:00

Blimey, for a first tattoo you went big!!

I always thought people started small and went larger.

Look, as long as you love it, it really doesn't matter what other people think.

speakout · 30/06/2022 15:00

Does it matter what a group of randos on the iinternet think of it?
If you like it then that's all that matters.

But since you did ask- no I don't like it, I dislike the subject matter and I don't think the technique is good, poor artwork, colouring dreadful.
But then I don't like tattoos anyway- my two adult kids have tattoos- I keep my mouth shut and I respect their choice to ink their bodies.
Thankfully both in a place that is rarely exposed on their bodies.

Thanks @RedCarsGoFaster i need to do research! You know when you see a design that is just a few simple lines but is also total genius? I'd like something like that. Probably a dedication to my late dog but not actually his photo, maybe more abstract.

Flyinggeese1234 · 30/06/2022 15:01

If this is real, I think it’s the proportions that are wrong (amongst other things).

Why would a snake’s head be similar in size to a human skull?

P205 · 30/06/2022 15:03

If you compare the OP's tattoo to something like this, it's just a completely different ballpark.

But, if she likes it, that's all that matters.

I got my first tattoo at 37 🙂 I searched for someone who artwork style I liked and then paid him to draw up different designs until I was happy. If you go with the artist then you get money off but honestly the most important thing is the design works for you. I printed it off and positioned it to see how it would look and waited a few weeks to make sure I was sure.

AndStand · 30/06/2022 15:03

I'm not keen tbh. And I'm not anti-tattoo at all.
The dinosaur looks like it's been "coloured in" with felt tip pens. And I can't see the link between a dinosaur, a skull and the blue stuff.
Sorry.

RicherThanYew · 30/06/2022 15:04

Threads like this crack me up too, you ask an audience who enjoy a specific thing if they like your particular thing within that shared interest and a bunch of people with zero interest turn up to stick their oar in.

Dog thread op: This is my terrier, do you like him?
Dog thread posters with dog aversion: bleurgh no I hate dogs and don't understand people who have them, therefore I am better than yewww. 😂😂

Danikm151 · 30/06/2022 15:05

The lines on the snake are wobbly and the shading leaves a lot to be desired.
I'd say this was either done by a new tattooist or one that really can't be bothered anymore.

Flyinggeese1234 · 30/06/2022 15:07

Sorry can see people saying it’s a dinosaur, but the point still stands, why would a dinosaur have a human skull sized head?

roarfeckingroarr · 30/06/2022 15:07

Do you really want honesty comments OP? All that matters is whether you like it.

Loads of us have many tattoos and have spoken about them in detail though. 😕

Notbeinfunnehbut · 30/06/2022 15:08

I think it would look better had it been done by a better artist

PoseyFlump · 30/06/2022 15:08

That's good advice @TheAverageUser so, find an artist first rather than a design. Is it silly to assume that if I find a local artist (whose style I like) who is the most expensive that they are likely to be of a high standard?

DogInATent · 30/06/2022 15:09

It's large, bold, colourful and prominent.

Unfortunately it's average in the execution, some of the detail is questionable (the snake scales around the mouth), the colour blocks are missing subtlety and shading, the choice of Barney The Dinosaur purple for the Boa head may not have been the best choice, the yellow of the throat of the Boa is indistinguishable from the very-yellow yellow of the skull, and the tattooist has no concept of human dentition (they look less like teeth and more like granny forgot her dentures).

You need to find a better tattooist to improve this into a better sleeve.

This is fantastic. Is it yours?

But in this case, plenty of people who do like tattoos and understand what makes a good tattoo have clearly explained why it's technically bad. Not because they don't like tattoos, but because this is objectively a badly executed tattoo.

fruitbrewhaha · 30/06/2022 15:10

Oh jesus, it's not very good OP.

It looks like you wandered into your nearest high street tattooist and said, Skull and snake please and make it yey big.

Instead of researching, finding an excellent artist, saving up and getting on their waiting list.

wellhelloitsme · 30/06/2022 15:12

@PoseyFlump

Single drawing designs sound like they could be a good fit for what you're after.

Single line drawings that was meant to say!

WeeOrcadian · 30/06/2022 15:14

I thought the snake was a dinosaur

Sorry OP, not for me, but randoms on the Internet don't matter - your opinion on it does matter

1smallhamsterfoot · 30/06/2022 15:15

I’d ask for a refund it looks terribly done. Like someone did it in a basement with a tattoo machine off Amazon @Unsuretattoo

DogInATent · 30/06/2022 15:17

PS
OP, despite my detailed comments above it can be made into a decent sleeve. A good friend has two full sleeves and I've seen the photos that show the progression over the years. Some of his early individual tattoos were truly awful, yet he found a genuine artist that corrected the earlier mistakes and produces a pair of sleeves that are fantastic.
